  • I must watch this film again.

    I need to cry again.

  • The saddest movie I'v ever seen...

  • this movie was able to make me cry when i was a little kid. great movie :)

  • Why do people have to debate on which culture is better? What's done is what's done and there is nothing we can do to change it. I just came to enjoy this music track from an amazing movie as an international loving human. Greetings from the U.S.A.

  • Chills. All over. The last shot with the sister posing like that. O my goodness...

  • LOL that troll guy is still replying to my comments, for real get a fucking life. haha that sad low life bastard wants attention or something! he needs to go cry to his parents!

  • LOL haha some religious fuck is trolling on me for what happened 70 years ago. this guy needs to get a life!

  • @719n30track where do you get that im religious? do you also spray shit out your fucking ass at 300 mph or do you at least keep your ass cheeks tightly fucking sealed?

  • @719n30track oh what what what does the wee ball boy have anything more to say with his tiny fucking wee shorts on?

  • @719n30track anymore wise words from the distinguished elderly gay fucking tennis coach?

  • @719n30track alrighttt time to go and hang up your lady cock

  • @theSicilianToe How art thou, thou fat, globby, bottle of cheap, stinking chip oil? Come and get one in the yarbles, if you have any yarbles, you eunuch jelly thou!

  • @sslfsociety I was calm on the outside, but thinking all the time! But suddenly I viddied that thinking was for the gloopy ones, and the omni ones used like inspiration and what bog sends. for now it was lovely music that came to my aid. there was a window open with the stereo one, and I viddied at once what to do.

  • @theSicilianToe Viddy well, brother.

  • @sslfsociety Viddy well

  • LOL at the pussy ass bitches complaining on here. haha get a fucking life.

  • LOL at the ignorant americans commenting on here

  • whats really fucking pathetic is that you try to learn history from a cartoon rofl

  • @theSicilianToe whats really fucking pathetic is that you actually believe in american propaganda. LOL!!!

  • @719n30track wow are you really this stupid. are you trolling? youre doing a really good job if you are.

  • @theSicilianToe LOL you're the one that replied to me in the first place, fuck off.

  • @719n30track to correct your dumb ass statements fucking cum jizzling gibbler bicker when an old man glibbles

  • @theSicilianToe You realize this movie is not a work of fiction, correct?

  • @Cyladis lol the bombs going off? yeah i was well aware that happened.

this movie is propaganda. plain and simple, and the japanese were not victims during the sino jap and second world wars. I love teh Japanese today, but they were scum at the start of the last century. imperialists were the worst people in the history of the human race. they make hezbollah and the taliban look like toys for tots.

  • @theSicilianToe Oh yeah. An autobiography is propaganda.

You realize this is an actual story from an actual survivor who actually lost his sister?

Don't lump everyone in Japan with those who did wrong in WWII. Most were against it. Civilians were innocent.

Just goes to show the real victims of war are the innocent bystanders.

  • not going to get too heavy about it, but learn history (and real history not the dumb censored shit you japanese learn in your schools), and dont act like such a fucking retard.

  • @theSicilianToe and shut the fuck with your false history information. you're making yourself sound dumb as hell. haha you came to the wrong video to complain about your jealousy problems, just fuck off now pussy boy.

  • @719n30track more insults. the person with the best insults doesnt win, you silly looking cunt.

  • @theSicilianToe please fuck off now, no one likes you. go away

  • @719n30track "noone likes you" what are you 8? do you have a face like dot cotton licking piss from a fucking kettle too?

  • @719n30track btw who are the cry baby pussies that keep begging the U.S. apologize for those bombs? who are the cry baby pussies bitching and moaning about how they want land back from the Russians? youre from america youre not even japanese youre retarded

  • @theSicilianToe LOL crying? hahaha!! bitches like you are the ones still crying about pearl harbor and shit. haha 3000 people died? LOL!! go play your call of duty or whatever.

  • @719n30track when did i cry about pearl harbor? look what happened to the world when that took place. the world learned who was the boss.

  • @theSicilianToe LOL yet you're the one that decided to comment on this video and replied to my comment first. if you don't like what i said, fuck off. keep on crying about what japan did. i bet you're the only one still bitching about it. LOL what are you korean? haha

  • @719n30track do you not even fucking read you retard i just got done telling you that im Sicilian you are really so fucking dense and racist, and ignorant, and fucking 31 years old and a psycho fanny babbling schizo twat fuck with a fucking enormous box

  • you guys have no idea about what japan has done to korean and chinese men, women, and children. theres a (youtube) video of pictures of japan beheading chinese and korean soldiers and citizens, they raped the women, and they would also perform (extremely) painful experiments on the babies.

so throughout this movie i cheered for the deaths of the movie.

  • @bigman1171

It doesn't matter what they've done. Murder of anybody in any race, culture or religion is sad and unnecessary.

  • @bigman1171 so because there have been evil japanese that did wrong to your ancestors (not even yourself. YOU don't even suffer) you have to cheer for deaths. oh let's all just blame people for their gouvernments past crimes, it will shurely help to prevent more of this shit. I guess YOU know what japanese, chinese and koreans deserve or don't deserve. So it is of course justified to call people closet faggots.

  • @bigman1171 LOL fucking dumbass, this suppose to be a anti-war movie, not a anti u.s. propaganda. Japan is not like china or korea, making false propaganda against japan. deal with it.

  • @719n30track actually this is propaganda. japan got away with the whole fucking war. this makes them look like victims, and their citizens were NOTHING like this. they were on par with modern North Koreans. fucking brainwashed and ridiculously racist.

  • @theSicilianToe actually this is a movie based on real life experiences. no, japan did not "get away" with war. they have faced punishment. civilians are always the victims of war. i would shut the fuck up if i were you. i bet you don't have any family members that experienced starvation, air raids, illness throughout war so just fuck off. my family member went trough all these kind of fucked up stuff and knows the consequences of war. fuck off ignorant bastard.

  • @719n30track oh gtfo and get with reality fetus boy. the japs have never acknowledge any of their war crimes like their bio chemical weapons program which used human test subjects, comfort women, etc. etc etc etc you are a propagandized and brainwashed sheep. the only reason your country exists today is because of these fucking war crimes and how General Shiro Ishii used them to bribe the U.S. gov into retaining the Emperor and not prosecuting them for war crimes. you are retarded

  • @719n30track and if you have family alive from japan today that were around during the sino jap and second world wars then theyre imperial japanese and theyll tell you themselves that school children were indoctrinated with the bigotries of racial superiority, that all other races were inferior to japanese and that it was their right to take their resources. this is what kind of shit was taught to children. brainwashed police state. in the modern day, we call countries

  • @719n30track similar to the imperial japanese system of governmnet "Sharia" and theyre ruled by not imperial japanese, but by muslims. they have as of yet to prove they are bigger scum then the imperial japanese though. the imperial japanese are the worst people in the history of the human race.

  • @theSicilianToe LOL hahaha you wanna keep on crying about it? just shut the fuck up and deal with fucking cry baby. japanese raped you gooks, slaughtered your babies, and fuck you up. we admitted that it was a war crime. suck it up pussy boy, you brainwashed fucker. the world consist of more facts than what they tell you in your country's propaganda. haha you wanna keep on crying? you just jealous of Japan's accomplishments? haha the rest of the people here agrees with me. fuck off bitch.

  • @719n30track resort to insults when you have nothing of substance to say. it shows how little you know. what a sad pathetic racist cunt you are.

  • @theSicilianToe stfu and go cry to your grandfather. haha did he die? LOL!!

  • @719n30track btw My great grandfather was at Pearl Harbor

  • I saw this movie with my friend and we did nothing but laugh and made fun about how stupid this movie is. it has no basis in reality, its mostly propaganda to make people hate the united states, and the little girl looks like something justin beiber would shit out. seriously if you really cried in this movie you either have emotional issues or your just a closet faggot. if you guys think that japan never deserved this then you need to learn what the japanese did to the chinese and koreans.

  • @bigman1171

The story was based off of a boy and his little sister that died of malnutrition. There isn't anything funny about it.

  • @bigman1171 Wow. Well done. I guess you really are a "bigman" to insult the dead.

The reality is you are a closet coward.

  • This movie isn't about war, it's about pride.

  • @nydcat It's about me, dumbass.

  • @DareYouNotToClick1 No, really, it's about my FORK!!!

  • @nydcat it's about the horrors of the war on civilians. I don't know what you mean by "pride"...

  • ;w; at first when i was little i thought war was cool with all the fighting and stuff but when when i saw the movie for the first time it teached me that war only gives us people pain and suffering. the truth is the world is filled with pain and suffering from wars we have fought. ;w; it makes me cry alot

  • @TheDemonKittyOfDoom no need for that kind of language here, please delete your comment

  • very sad~

  • i have two big brothers, i'd know that one of them would help me to be safe and the other wouldn't.... and imagining that happening to me.... well.. it's scary. :'(

  • I listen to this music when i'm anxious and depressed around my family. These two little kids wished they still had a family. What's my excuse? none.

Every nanoseconds of this song speaks "gratefulness", which for any human being, is hard to detect. It'll be the hard for me to be grateful about my life. sigh

  • @XpianoxboyX well stated

  • @caohanlu thank you

  • This movie sadden me to the point of hurting my head.....it never happen before

  • Oh Great! Well seems like that time to kill myself again... And I was leading such a promising life too!

  • this movie is so beautiful, they sould show movies like this now in days i love it..i also cryed

  • im sad that the movie froze near the end, i never got to finish it :(

  • What such music, it makes my heart break, because it is indeed a truly heartbreaking movie, though it is not real, the feeling of sadness lingers as if it really did happen, it brings tears to my eyes, what a beautiful movie it is.

  • @DriftDweller it actually did happen but the older brother never died and decided to write this book as an apology towards his sister because he could not help her (she also died due to malnourishment)

  • Comment removed

  • @scarycookie1

this exact story is not real, but it is based on something similar.

The story is based on the semi-autobiographic novel of the same name, whose author, Nosaka, lost his sister due to malnutrition in 1945 wartime Japan. He blamed himself for her death and wrote the story so as to make amends to her and help him accept the tragedy.

  • :(

  • this is the sadest movie i have ever seen. so touching. i cried my eyes out.

i still love it though. :)

  • It`s moving,I can see it!Light and love to all of you.I`m german!

  • if you have a little sister, this is ....terrible

  • @Jostein1330 Yes....

  • @Jostein1330 Any younger sibling for that matter. This movie ruined me in the best possible way. :'(

  • Toduro27, you should really disable the comments.

  • i usually say sad poems in comments but need i really attribute anything else to this movie? the touching feling as the boy returned to his sister, the joy of him meeting his family again, the original loss of his family? what could prove more emotional than tis? watching two children die in such a drawn out and touching way really is difficult to beat. the worst thing is how this is based on real events which led to a real death is truly heartbreaking and the raw emotion truly ends all hope.

  • this movie made me cry .... hard ... :'(

  • why are people having debates on this video, just enjoy the song

  • Comment removed

  • Two words: Thank you

  • @bigman1171: SERIOUSLY? Stop hating on everyone. What you believe is what YOU, YOURSELF believe in. You don't need to hating on Non Christians because they chose what they wanted to believe. We're all people just like you. And not all Japanese households raise their kids terribly. People have reasons for that situation. I'm Christian, so what? I don't believe I'm any different from anyone. We're all people. So just keep your own opinion to yourself. Don't be so racist.

  • OH AND BY THE WAY I HATE THE UNITED STATES.

  • really this film shows u that war is not only fought on the battlefield it affects everyone and every country has a history with evil in it there is no innocent countrys out there all goverments are evil! soon the world will be a prison and all shall perish!

  • @bigman1171 - Also...by you "bursting out laughing" about someone dying of diarrhea...especially a child...well that's just sadistic and additionally ignorant. Most anyone knows that little kids dehydrate very quickly and I was told that the pain can be excrutiating for some in that situation. You must not have children and/or you just don't care. Very interesting....

  • @GuiedosTube its a fucking cartoon, asshole

  • @bigman1171 - Hey "BIG"man...I usually don't poke my nose towards those showing their lack of education, but I'll make an exception here: This movie may have been made for reasons you say...hatred towards America. But it receives such acolades because people see beyond what you say. The suffering of any innocent child regardless of religion, race, creed, etc. resulting from collateral damage in war is hard for most to swallow. What would you say if an American animator made this flick?

  • very catching movie!

  • You don't believe this movie was made in 1988 ...

  • Comment removed

  • this movie is really gets you emotional, specially for me cuz i never had a sister.....died before she was even born...anyways, great movie, brings a tear to your eye.

  • this fucking movie man... motivates me to do something good in life

  • At the end his face is like

    O-O You did this...

  • Leave it to a couple of morons to turn a movies purpose on its head. The movie isnt screaming for simpathy, its just showing the outcome that war can have for us all. Take the movie for wat it is, no need to make it into a dick measuring contest between countries.

  • war is hell. having to fight a war is failure of human beings. war should be the last option that a country must decide.it doesn't matter whether who is the enemy. innocent civilians are always the ones that suffers for no reasons.

  • @bigman1171 weren't you on the other video ? :D They bombe Pearl Harbor, YES. But you also bombed them :/ War is war, dude. America is America. We already hate you lots, and that is not for WW2, but for much else things.

Bon baiser du Québec, crétin :)

  • @bigman1171 And also, I read your comment completely now. Yeah, Japanese are evil, they made that to poor Chinese and Korean,s uhm ? I'm not saying they deserved it, no one deserve to have such treatments as they did. But no kids deserves to live like that. And you're just pathetic, man. It's not the same thing at all.

  • @SuperGohan2132 look friend the reason you like this movie is because you hate chinese, koreans, and americans. your biased and support the japanese for killing americans.

  • @bigman1171 Why would I hate them ? You are obviously retarded. Don't make asumptions on me. Koreans are nice people, and Chineses are hard-working as are the Japanese. And not all women there likes yaoi, as not all womens in America likes yaoi. Man, you look so retarded. And why would I want Japanese to kill Americans ? That's the stupidest argument I ever saw.

  • @SuperGohan2132 so what? the japanese are a dirty people. they don't have morals and they're not nice people. at least with arabs and muslims and afghans they're a very nice people much nicer than the japanese dogs, not to mention that theres more christians in muslim countries,s korea, and china than anywhere else in the world. if you see the man who dropped the bomb in hiroshima, you would here him say that he would do it 1000 times over again.

  • @bigman1171 So everything is now related to christianim ? If then, you, didn't understood anything about what world is truly about, or even your fuckin religion.

And yeah, he would do it. Japanese wouldn't have surrendered if not. Don't try to beat me on history, man. Japanese would have been to proud to give up, y' know.

  • @bigman1171 And of course there's more christians there. Theyr're something like half of the world if not more, moron.

  • @SuperGohan2132 and if anything, i think afghanistan, the middle east, korea, and china has the most hard working people on earth

  • @bigman1171 Chinese are very hard-working indeed. They take the group before the individual, what isn't really big in America, heck, North America or Occident...

Afghnistant must have some pretty interesting culture, and more to America, it has oil. Nomnomnom, oiiiil.

And then, Korea is Korea, but I don,t know much abouth them except their music k-music. Evry country are interesting in their own way, and have their own way of doing things and thinking.

  • @SuperGohan2132 and leo not to mention on how bad of parents the japanese make (especially the mothers). they don't discipline their daughters and thats why they grow up being whores on the streets of tokyo.

  • @bigman1171 What's about being a whore a bad thing ? They can do whatever they want. These people don't raisde their kids like we do.

And how come you've got that much information about that place ? I'm sure you secretely love Japan or then you just make up everything.

  • @SuperGohan2132 if you think theres nothing wrong with women selling their bodies on the streets for sex then your fucked. also, by the way if your not a christian, a jew, or a muslim then to me your nothing more than dog. your a filthy fucking animal with no life of value to me

  • @bigman1171 I understood whore in the pejorative way. You should say prostitute. That's the world's oldest profession. And then, don't judge when you don't know. Maybe they didn't had a nice, happy life, uh ?

And also, I /am/ an atheist. So yeah, I'm a filthy dog. I have no value. I have no life, tehrefore, I am not actually bretahing. You don't know me, don't know anything about why I have no beliefs. I have nothing against people who believe, but me I don't.

  • @bigman1171 Also, I've got some eduction from my filthy animal mother, and that's to respect people. And therefore, I respect them. They maybe jews, black or whatver, I just respect what they are.

  • @bigman1171 And don't call me friend. I don't wanna be friend with retard like you.

  • @SuperGohan2132 on second a thought i don't care about koreans

  • @SuperGohan2132 and plus japan (and south korea) doesn't even have culture. they're rude people, they're very greedy, neither of them are christian (or muslims) and they disrespect it too, they're very xenophobic against non asians (except chinese or SE asians), most of all their women are filthy, bitchy, whores who likes to read gay manga porn (YAOI), its disgusting. at least with asian countries with more gov control like china or vietnam they don't have these problems.

  • @bigman1171 I'm glad that you on the other hand respect foreign cultures! And glad that the U.S.A. has culture! Hands up for : fat people, Fast food, giving shit about the environment, bombing other countries in the name of "God", creationism, knowing no other language than English, a "democratic" system without social security and the amazing choice to vote between 2 similar parties (wow that's 1 more than China), being afraid of anything that's different, thinking the world started in 1492...

  • any1 whos cried to this it shows your still human!

  • can anybody tell me the website so i can watch this

  • I saw this movie but I don't think I can watch it now that I've become a mother. It was already too painful but I literally think I would have a breakdown if I watched this again.

  • This is one of the best anime's ever made. And to those folks who are bickering about war...It doesn't matter who's the good, bad, or ugly, War is just that...Ugly and innocent people get hurt no matter what. Our basic human emotional and sensitive tendencies still stay with us regardless of who's right or wrong. I've hardly known anyone who's seen this movie and hasn't been moved by it. It's our nature that sets us aside from the animals...sometimes. -E.

  • @GuiedosTube That is always true. Everytime I think about a war being good for whatever reason. I remember this movie and it reminds me that war is never good. Just like the famous war stratigist Sun Tzu said "Fighting is never good for either side, it costs everyone time, energy and family. No matter what the cause." And that is never a good thing.

  • <3

  • Why didn't you save her, Seita? {,(

  • Comment removed

  • i have never seen this movie, but just watching the trailer made me sad. it was definetly not what i grew up expecting from studio ghibli. i know ghibli for stuff like ponyo, howl's moving castle(speaking of which has anyone else had a crush on howl?when they were little i mean, if you saw when you where little.), my neighbor totoro, kiki's delivery service, and castle in the sky.

  • I dont know a person who has watched this movie and has not cry. It gets to me everytime!!!

  • Comment removed

  • This is an amazing movie, but its so sad... I'm always crying when I watch it. It makes me feel ashamed to be an American... I remember when I first saw this movie. My dad had bought it for my sister and I. I started watching it and it broke my heart. I was only about 6-7 years old. Everytime I see Seita, I think of my older brother, and when I see Setsuko, I think of me. I love him with all my heart and I hope nothing ever happens to him... Just typing this made me cry a little... :'(

  • FUCK ALL AMERICANS FUCK ALL WHO USE THEIR POWER TO WAGE WAR FUCK YOU !!!

  • @TheAgol07 You're missing the point of the movie. This movie isn't meant to deprecate any country in particular as much as it is meant to show the cruel atrocities of war in general, and how the innocent who aren't even on the front lines of battle struggle. This movie doesn't glorify any particular side (notice how the focus is always on Seita and Setsuko during this whole movie, and the words "Axis", "Allies", "Americans", etc. are never mentioned?)

  • Comment removed

  • Just shut the hell up.

  • @TheAgol07 I think your caps lock is stuck. Also, go read a history book and tell me exactly who started WWII. I don't claim for America to be clean of any blood on its hands...but if you look at history...very few countries are (including Japan). So go fuck yourself before you get all upset over something that you obviously know little to nothing about.

  • @MNVikingsforever -_-' when did i say anything in particular about america moron ! i said people and countries with Power wage war LIKE AMERICA !!! okay it doesn't matter who started it BUT if fucking matters HOW MANY countries participate in IT !!

  • @heylinspongesprite Right at the beginning, when Seita is shown dead, a passer-by can be clearly heard saying "the Americans will be approaching soon." This appears in the subtitles.

  • @skorpi0wut Oh, I hadn't seen that before...

  • this film is not only one of the best animated pictures i've seen,it ranks very highly on my favourite overall movie,it had me laughing at parts...had me kinda angry at parts and it made me tear up quite abit...obviously most war films are about the war itself but this one is about life during the war for the japanese, and it is a touching film, younger audiences may not agree but for people like me, it will always be considered one of the best

  • @fangopango Younger audiences do positively agree.

  • i've just watched it. i can't describe my feelings now especially wiz this soundtrack. "sigh"

  • This movie is my favorite . I dare people to watch this without crying . Best damn anime movie ive ever watched . <3

  • this movie was sooo sad, everyone died :(

and isn't this song supposed to have little chime sounds at the begginging of the song?

  • god i love setsuko and her brother

    im crying

  • What's the name of the song? The second to last one :)

  • I didn’t cry with this movie, even if you don't want believe me, but…. The crudity of the scenes is something that make me effect in many ways apart from the tears. Is weird to explain.

  • saddest movie ever...=/

  • I really can't understand why anyone would dislike this.

I don't know, maybe they think it's copyrighted and you shouldn't share the touching music?

Really, can people be that heartless? This movie was the saddest and most touching I've seen on war.

  • you guys should watch clannad and clannad after story soo sad its seriess and LOADS OF THE EPISODES MADE ME CRY but it has a happy ending

  • Watched this about a week ago. Still can not let it go.... no other movie, book or game has touched me this much.

  • i think the only reason people could dislike this

is because they missed the like button;//

  • i love this ending song................

  • Such a sad movie

As a big brother of 4 siblings, 3 of them sisters it struck a nerve...Or more like stabbed and twisted

And everytime I see this movie, same thing happens

    I cry

  • please somebody tell me what this movie is about and if i should watch it.

  • @brandon5591 This movie is about two children that are suffering from the consequences of war. Both of the children are trying to survive, and the boy (her brother) does everything in his power to keep his sister safe and fed. If I would recommend ANY movie for anyone to watch, it would be this movie. But prepare to grab a box of tissues (Man or woman) because this movie is so intense and beautiful, but has a tragic ending. Please watch it. You will not regret it.

  • @brandon5591

    watch it.

  • Intense...

  • see, even everyone admit that they have cried! Including me! I cannot stop crying!! I've watch this movie a lot of times, and I'm always crying! I wonder what is the feeling of people that disliked this video/movie. . Heartless

  • @yukiharvestfans xD reks

  • I agree. I feel same.

    Salute from Lima Peru

I love it this movie. Its very sad

  • @yukiharvestfans Wonderful story but im used to sadder childhood country stories to cry. this film reminds me 1 about 1793 Vendée war in france: a little girl losing her father, brother & loved horse to republicans then playing drums on the battlefield for her region..She loses everyone again & end alone in a cave to die from hunger "the little drummer girl fell down, she ll never encounter love. if children dn't like war, war likes children. Before thinking about war, plz don't make children"

  • @yukiharvestfans they dislike because the movie touches them, and they cried

  • Never in my life have I seen a film that depicted the horrors of war and hatred better than this film. In my mind, it is the perfect tragedy. A movie that all aspiring filmmakers should look up to. Great job Isao Takahata.

  • The ghosts of the brother and the young sister seated on a mountain and staring at the busy city of the modern day Japan. This is the most haunting ending ever produced

  • yea this song rlly haunts you long after you finish the movie, everytime i listen to it, the images just pop in my head and tears start flowing =[

  • reminds me of 9/11

just so much death and destruction

  • life is sad.

  • lovely movie !!!

this reminds me how garbage most movies in hollywood are

  • It is so sad... This movie make me cry !!

  • I guess I must need to have seen this movie to understand this video haha. It's just a picture and I can't imagine what's actually happening.
