  • Grew up watching Robert Newton in his various roles, always thought he was one of the best character actors of his time.

I believe this to be from the TV series I used to watch as a young lad in the UK.

The women who played Purity was perfect for the par.t

  • Robert Newton: The God of Piracy.

  • This film actually released in U.K. under the plain title "Long John Silver" but it was still as good as the original ,Newton was one of the all time greats ,see some of his other movies too ,a great character actor .

  • did you know that his son scattered his ashes in a place in cornwall, england.....where robert newton spent his childhood

  • @broadband01 But why is there a grave stone of his in California?

  • @JohnSilverfan01 he had a funeral service there probably, and a stone was laid, but he was cremated, and like i said, his son scattered his ahes off the dorser coast in england, where he was born and brought up,funny enough, that area is where a lot of pirates came from :O)

  • @broadband01 [dorset] not dorser, i missed a key

  • I'm really in love in Robert Newton as John Silver <3

  • What a crazy woman and what a brilliant Rob

  • Good Lord Almighty!! THANKS A BILLION TIMES FOR SUBMITTING THIS!!! I am most likely one of Robert Newton's biggest fan! I even wear him on a guitar pick around my neck and collect every movie there is of him!

This has always been my favorite moment of Rob as Long John! Harr! He's a dream!

  • @JohnSilverfan01 My great aunt Emmy was Robert Newton's house keeper in London in the 50's.

But after the late 60's I lost track of her. Would love to hear some her tales about RN..

  • Respond to this video... Wow! That's awesome! How I would love to go back in time and meet him.

  • @JohnSilverfan01 Me too.

I understand he was a really nice man. Loved his drink..but always turned up on the set on time!

I think he was great as Bill Sykes in the original Oliver Twist by David Lean.

  • @shofaruk Ah, yes. How he can play a villain so perfectly and get away with it. It always gave me shivers from the look on his faces as he's approaching his dog Bull's Eye preparing to drown him. What an actor.

  • @JohnSilverfan01 None better. Certainly a match for Burton, Guiness and their clan.

  • Haha! I always liked this show. Robert Newton was great, and I really liked Connie Gilchrist as Purity. The seem made for each other! :) (I found it ironic, since in the book Long John is already married!)

  • There'll never be another like Robert Newton.
