Just doing Hula cardio videos I know this is not easy. But I have to laugh at myself because goofing around I tried to mimic the move where they lean back. Let's just say that for the sake of being able to walk again I wont ever do that again. It hurt so much! I admire their strength and gracefulness.

Now that's old school not one fat bradda in the line and all the old school moves to go along with it, when the hula was not just a dance but a show of strength, stamina and grace amongst the warriors of old.

What are you talking about, "no legs"!?! Do you have any idea how much it takes to do that style of hula... you use every muscle in your legs, your arms, abs, back! It's an extremely physical style of hula to make it look effortless and to execute flawlessly, as they did, and if you open your eyes, you'll see they are using their legs!!
@persiablu yea, who ever said no legs obviously doesn't dance hula! you're using every muscle in your body! That step w/ one leg out while they are on the ground is called "'ohelo". You are working your arms, legs, hip flexors, everything. Its really quite painful to do consecutively. LOL Seriously. The `ohelo step has a sexual connotation. As you can see. LOL

Btw, is this type of traditional Hawaiian dance called "Kahiko" or "Kane"? Sorry, I'm halfway across the world. There is some minor similarity in a type of traditional group dance in my part of asia.

"kahiko" is the style, meaning "ancient." "kane" means "men." so men are dancing an ancient style of hula.

I can see why they won! This is one of the smallest halau's but they were Perfect! I honestly love kahiko more than auana!

Haha, this is cool! Their 'dress' things are a bit odd to me, and don't seem to match my admittedly stereotypical view of what's 'Hawaiian', but the dance and choreography and head/wrist clothing is all pretty awesome =]

What are you talking about, "no legs"!?! Do you have any idea how much it takes to do that style of hula... you use every muscle in your legs, your arms, abs, back! It's an extremely physical style of hula to make it look effortless and to execute flawlessly, as they did, and if you open your eyes, you'll see they are using their legs!!

@persiablu yea, who ever said no legs obviously doesn't dance hula! you're using every muscle in your body! That step w/ one leg out while they are on the ground is called "'ohelo". You are working your arms, legs, hip flexors, everything. Its really quite painful to do consecutively. LOL Seriously. The `ohelo step has a sexual connotation. As you can see. LOL

theres a reason why girls be yelling at some parts of this hula.. its not just that these men are prolly maken them hot.. its also because its impressive on amount of dedication and athletism these kanes put in their dance. GOOD JOB Kanes! always a pleasure to watch. very impressive.

@persiablu I'm so glad to see you defend these men so strongly. They are amazing and people dont seem to realize how hard hula is especially hula kahiko. There is so much strength involved and control but people want to believe that its nothing but hip shaking and swaying, just ignorance all around
