What a performance,Best solo in the world. Not one error or wrong chord. This man should have a bank holiday named after him. Can't believe elliot randall and steely dan had been playing it wrong all these years.
OH MY GOD. HE IS A HUMAN-BEING AND MADE A MISTAKE AND HAD THE AUDACITY TO FEEL PROUD OF HIMSELF. HOW DARE HE! hey stratman, don't let these fucking cunts make you feel like an asshole. doubt any of them could do much better
@newfuckingwave No one's criticizing him for making a mistake. He should feel pride that he's able to tackle this solo. But he should have the awareness & humility to recognize that it's not nearly ready for prime time. Instead, HE is the one who has the AUDACITY to present this as an instructional video, pompously advising: "Think: economy of motion, that's the key..." If he had posted this as a work in progress, instead of as an expert demonstration, people would be more supportive.
This rip has nothing to do with Skunk Baxter. It was ripped out by Elliot Randall as a studio musician and he received "$200" for one of the most memorable rips in Rock & Roll history IMHO.
Not to be too critical, but, DUDE, you need to get a Boogie and a PRS. The Strat and the Marshall (Line 6, New Fender?) does not have a good enough intonation to really do this justice. Shunk was like Jeff Beck is those days, "Screw the tuning, I'll bend to make it fit.".
@eqsmooth, yes, look up Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. Same guy, the next SD album, or the one after that had Lee Ritenour as the session player. SD may not have been able to keep it together for touring but the nailed it in the studio
awesome stratman, i lived this song back in the day.....played it and identified me hundreds of times...silly corny...yeah to both...still love it..you are GOOD !!!!
@eqsmooth I'm not so sure that Skunk actually played on this particular song. If he did, it was most likely the muted rhythm part playing out of the left channel. The arpeggio figures leading into the guitar solo sections sound more like Denny Dias' playing style. And the guitar used in those instances also sound more percussive, like, perhaps played with a Telecaster, rather than a Strat. I could be wrong, though.
@jboneau some people really practice and fucks like you with soul talk hurts only your devil inside you wanting to be next to the biggest guitar player.
@MultiShades Chill out dude! I was saying that in jest. I know it takes practice to wail like that. There's no reason to start static by coming at a dude all sideways. Next time, listen to the smooth jams of Steely Dan before dropping F bombs as a reply on someone's post.
Hey Stratman 1920 this was a pleasant surprise. I think you're pretty good. I'll make you the 1st alternate in case the other guy doesn't show up. LOL. Hey I'm just kidding with you. I really liked it, nice job. keep it up man. You need to get an agent, you got skills bro.
Dude, I paused this so I could say this. I've listened to Steely Dan since the beginning and if I had to pick a favorite band, they'd be it. And "Can't Buy A Thrill" will always be special because it was first. I can't imagine how many times I've listened to "Reelin' In The Years", but watching and listening to you brings back how it felt to experience these riffs all those years ago. Thanks, man.
I've played the strat Elliott used to record "Reelin' In The Years" song with along with a vast majority of his other work. Watching Elliott play is an honour, to work with him is more. Excellent work my friend! you do the song justice
I think We all agree that this Stratman has nailed the song perfectly. Other than another you tube video by someone else this guy nails Reelin in the Years perfectly. Great Video! Do you have the tabs for it? How about doing a slow down video of what you are doing? Just an idea. Thanks again! Great job!
Okay, now drastically increase the tempo on the intro. You're lagging. Put on a set of headphones. Now, I ain't saying you're no good, cuz u r. The glissando at the end NEEDS INTENSITY. Don't back off.
