3800 is buick's most reliable engine of all time. Couple that with supercharger or a turbo and forget it. The only mistake buick made was making it front wheel drive. Supposedly the 3800 swap is the easiest of all fiero engine swaps.

There was a 3.8L V8 engine from Buick during the '70s called the 350, but we're talking about the V6 3800. The V6 3800 is more powerful then the old 3.8L V8.

both are about the same acceleration wise but there is a lot of room to grow with the 3800 sc go to zzperformace for 3800sc upgrades. They currently have a 9sec FWD grand prix running a modded 3800. Also depends if you prefer stick vs manual.

@BeneathNorthernStars Maybe ugly. Not always slow. They're extremely cheap to tune. Dollar for dollar, you can do bolt ons to that eclipse much faster, and cheaper. The 3800 series 2 will need some decent work. But has a MUCH larger engine. I'm not sure what the potential on the 3800 is HP wise.

But the 4g63t 1gen engine can hold up to, and possibly over 900hp. It's competed in the NHRA as the fastest 4cylinder stock engine. Won in NHRA 7 our of 8 competitions that it rolled in.

I'm doing a 2m4 to 3800 L36 (non-supercharged) conversion. I expect to get about 205-210HP when it's done. The Fiero is surprisingly heavy because it has a spaceframe design and lots of outdated, heavy components. So I'm replacing the wheels and suspension to lighten it up... it should totally rock! I love the way the 3800 sounds. It's saweeeeet. :)

3800s are twice as efficient, theres some people getting 35 mpg with 3800SC fieros

the entire car was made for maximum fuel economy, the early 4 cyls are epa rated 50 mpg hwy

i bought a 87 fiero gt with 33k miles on it its a beast its got a corvette lt1 with a whipple 140 sc it destroys tuners i ran a 10.3 on the strip with about a 12 inch wheelie off the start the thing is a beast.

autos arnt a waist btw if u change factory shift timings they cn prove to b quite useful remember an auto is always a perfect shift

ha me and mu buddy worked on one together a few years ago. GT turbo with a wet nitrous system, borla exhaust. Neither one of us could afford it so we split the costs. Ran a 10.7 quarter and the front wheels came off the ground. Had a flamethrower kit but the engine blew before we installed it. Nice car I wish I still at ours I'd race you :)
