were the hell did u get this! fantastic, did hot chocolate have 2 o.k. this, or did they take stories& buddah 2 court? this has nothin 2 do with the way the song was written, buts its cool 4 a recod promo
Calling it one of the first rock videos is a bit of the stretch considering what the Beatles had done (see Paperback Writer, Strawberry Fields Forever!)
I remember seeing this whole video on the old Don Kirshners Rock Concert when I was 8 and I remembered how much I liked both the video and song, and of course the video was way ahead of its time because this was in the 70's when interracial dating was still looked at in a negative way.
Superb! Ian Lloyd does sound similar to Rod Stewart on this song, but not on any other. The song was written by Hot Chocolate, and they had a hit with it here (UK). Ian Lloyd almost joined Rainbow, apparently.
Saw them perform this song on American Bandstand. Absolutely hated it . Hot Chocolate original far funkier and better. I think it was unfortunate for them to have a hit with this since it has nothing to do with anything they ever did. Of Course Michael Brown is notable by his absrnce. Checkout Beckies on YT also Montage which unfortunately has been dropped by YT if you like Lefte Banke.
I know the oringinal drummer for stories. Its a shame his addiction tore him apart. Today he can hardly keep a beat. Its great to see Ian still belting the tunes out.
Wow, sorry to hear it. Are you talking about Bryan Madey? I never knew how good he was until last year when I was on my quiet drum kit, playing along with Brother Louie on the radio... after a bit I realized that Bryan had a really soulful backbeat - his feel, his snare hits are just slightly behind the beat, very R&B and NOT like the other rock drummers of the time who played on top of the beat. Tell him I dig his playing if you see him
The narrator was the same narrator who did "Barnaby Jones". Maybe Stories were going to get their own detective series. I could see the balding lead singer making a meth bust on the beach. Leif Garrett guest stars as the roller skating thug.
Thanks Kidloyd. Wow the woman in this ad for "louie louie' was a hot attractive babe lol.
Seriously getting back on point, A great song, 'ahead of it's time' talking about interracial romance which was 'still new to most of America' in the early 1970's.
Awesome!!!!

That's the voice of Adolf Cesar. He was in that movie Soldiers Story. He did almost all the voice overs for the 70's black movie trailers.

I wish Stories had done a video for "Top Of The City".. Great finding this.. and I've got this permanently embedded in a blog I've got on Myspace.

I was born 7/25/1968, and I,too, remember this ad from "Soul Train". LOD*!
*A fusion of the initialism "LOL" and the honorific "LORD". It's pronounced "LAWD".

I find it hard to believe that a this hot black chic would ever dig a skinny balding pot head, I guess there's hope for me after all.
