You speak the truth. The very definition of a 3rd down back, he was able to grind out yardage under the worst conditions. Outdoors, grass field and crappy weather, no problem give Brown the ball and let the line do the job. No one brought him down alone very often, usually two and most of the time three guys had to be there. Must have been scary if you were a small linebacker, safety, or cornerback, at the point of first contact after he broke the line!

This should be required viewing for young running backs! Watch him go to the hole, let your linemen set the block up for you to use. Then square you shoulders and take those 3 strides through the line and take on the linebacker or safety. Watch the foot work and balance at the point of contact, always keep your feet moving, lower your shoulder and deliver a blow, use you stiff arm, keep them away from your legs. When you break away use you speed to get you to the goal line. He was amazing!

When I was a kid Jim Brown was still playing. I remember being in a hardware store with my mom and watching him on an old B&W tv they had there. Maybe 1965 or 66.

Jim Brown's 5.2 yards per rush is for his CAREER. And 12,312 yards were accomplished in only 12 game seasons. AND he never missed a game! Retired at 29, he could easily have played another 4 or 5 years.

Someone trying to compare Chris johnson to Jim Brown is really ridiculous. First of all you can't compare any of the runner today to Brown simply because all of Brown's stats were were done in 12 game seasons and some without a face mask. So I wish people would stop glorifying  a 1000 yard season in 16 games with some sort of success

Can you believe this great athlete of a man. The amazing part is that he retired at the age of 29. Imagine if he retired at 35, simply amazing and ahead of his time.

James Nathaniel Brown retired from the National Football League in 1965...........FORTY-SIX YEARS AGO...........and he's STILL the official "measuring stick" by which all great running backs are measured. The great thing about this beautiful video production (and others similar to it), is it's ability to enlighten those, such as myself......who simply aren't old enough to have actually enjoyed the God-Given talents of this incredible athlete while he performed. Videos such as this are PURE JOY.

thanks for sharing! love Jim Brown. i was born in the mid 70's and didn't see him during his time but i've seen films of what he did as a runner and i respect that! he's my 2nd favorite runner of all time behind Barry Sanders! Walter is my 3rd favorite RB of all time. Sanders, Brown, and Payton--my top three of all time!

The highlights are amazing, but the biggest thing about having Brown on your team was when your team needed a 1st down badly and it was 3rd and 5. There has never been anyone I'd rather hand off to than Brown in that situation. Ever. To me, that's the definition of the greatest running back of all time. Before there was the Green Bay sweep, with Hornung & Taylor, there was the Cleveland sweep, and opposing players just hoped he didn't make his cut in their direction. Absolutely awesome.

I've b een watching football for 54 years now, and there's never been anyone to compare with Brown. Grew up in Dayton pre-Bengals, and the Browns were on every Sunday. Boy was I spoiled; thought it would be always thus. I keep waiting to see Brown's equal but haven't seen him yet.

Jim Brown over 10 seasons had 12,312 rushing yards, Chris Johnson over 3.5 Seasons had 5,473 yards, that times 3 is 16,419, if chris johnson keeps up what he is doing and lasts for 10 years his yards will be over 4,107 over jim browns, Actually learn stats and compare them before posting ignorant comments.

@suny123boy1 I grew up watching him on tv every Sunday. In those days the Browns were the league power, and being a kid, I figured we'd always have someone like Jim Brown at FB. (yes kids; fullback was the tailback of the 50's-60's). Boy did I get spoiled back then. I've seen them all for the past 50+ years; only two reminded me of Brown; Bo & Earl, but neither had the durability.  There's NOBODY in the history of the game I'd rather give the ball on 3rd and 5 if I really needed a 1st down.
