These two boys murdered one toddler and became icons of hatred forever with people who are willing to assassinate them even today, then why is there no such obvious hatred towards notorious serial killers like Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy who killed dozens of people? It is worse to live in prison for many years than to have a quick death, people should pay for what they do by spending many decades in prison. Death is an easy way out and John and Robert should have stayed in prison until they were 70. And if someone gets life then they should die in prison whether they live till they are 101 or die at 20. Murdering a child under 16 should= 60 years per victim plush an extra 12 years for torturing so John and Robert should have been given 72 years in prison.

I just finished watching the documentary on these evil bastards. They were institutionalized for 8 years with swimming pool access, gymnasium, hot tub, Sony Play Stations, top notch education, clothing allowance and full course meals. They were also allowed to go on trips and travel as part of a "mobility" program. A cost of $3000 per child each week. Like everyone else, if they had have killed a child of mine I would have been mortified and I would have wanted to avenge my child’s death. If Denise Fergus killed either john or Robert I wouldn’t batter an eyelid. BUT it would be interesting to see how everybody in our nation would react if their children had gotten into the wrong crowd and committed murder. I doubt that majority of the people who are on this page would be as quick to pull the Corporal punishment card then.

I agree that this crime was horrible and unforgivable, but there is one thing I don't understand. These two boys murdered one toddler and became icons of hatred forever with people who are willing to assassinate them even today, then why is there no such obvious hatred towards notorious serial killers like Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy who killed dozens of people? Is it because they are already dead, that they where adults or that they only killed adults?

It is worse to live in prison for many years than to have a quick death, people should pay for what they do by spending many decades in prison. Death is an easy way out and John and Robert should have stayed in prison until they were 70. And if someone gets life then they should die in prison whether they live till they are 101 or die at 20. Murdering a child under 16 should= 60 years per victim plush an extra 12 years for torturing so John and Robert should have been given 72 years in prison.

Venables deliberately MURDERED and TORTURED an innocent, trusting toddler. For this crime, he MUST be tracked down, and 'removed'----permanently. I've read about Robert Thompson's past before, and he was sexually and physically abused. 80% of criminals come from a bad background, and that is not a coincidence.

Maybe let out to break rocks and other heavy labour for no pay. If newspaper reports are to believed, Venables has ballooned to 18 stone after spending 40 ponds a week on junk food like chocolate and crisps....this is hardly punishment.

Sick and tired of people saying that prison doesn't rehabilitate certain criminals. I aways thought that prison was a place where bad people go who have relinquished their rights to live in a decent society due to their actions, be it murder, rape, robbery etc. They get removed from our streets and put where they rightly belong. But some feel we should all give them a hug, send them on holiday and welcome them back. Sadly the victims who lie 6 feet under cannot add their opinion to this debate.
