  • I'm getting a sense of Deja.....Disney 4:11

  • is it just me or is their weird phasing between the conductor and the guys head around the two minute mark?

  • 8:52 Horns!!

  • Rudolf Josl is the principal trombonist's name.

  • really great trombone solo and a very beutiful symphony, just started listen to mahler's symphonys and those i've heard had all been great and very intressting. really enjoyed this.

  • The trombonist has good sound but very poor musicality.

Bernstein as always is divine. Gergiev couldn't hold a candle to Him

  • There are two kinds of people in this world == those that get Mahler, and those that don't.

  • Mahler: Symphony No. 3: Part I: Mov. 1 - Part 1 of 4

  • Mahler's 3rd symphony features one of the most majestic trombone solo passages in Orchestral music. Thanks Mahler.

  • Quite a monumental piece of music.

  • I heard he's having 69 French Horns at Coachella.

  • 10:10 Horn players please tell me what he did.

    Thank you!

  • @mzoli1222 Looks like he was just fixing a popped tuning slide.

  • @mzoli1222 that middle slide that he hits was probably blown a little out of place and he was slapping it back in so he wouldn't play out of tune

  • @mzoli1222

pushed his slide in. He figured his pitch wasnt matching the horn section so he pushed in.

  • i just love the part that starts with this video! wonderful violin solo...

  • To be fair he does a great job - lovely intonation and not overbearing. I'd be happy with that!

  • love it how josel is the only one without a lätzsch trombone... such crappy instruments, that's just not the sound a trombone should have! thank god they don't play those anymore!

  • @mortalfrog0815 The rotary-valved trumpets (as opposed to piston-valved trumpets) are pretty bizarre as well.

  • @OpenCadence78 as austrian i have to defend these rotary valve trumpets... in my opinion they sound a lot better than the ones with pistons because the notes are parted a lot better! i like these trumpets a lot better!

  • @mortalfrog0815 As a saxophonist, I don't know what I'm talking about with regards to brass instruments, so I guess you know better than I do :P

  • @OpenCadence78 haha! i agree... ;-)

  • Ian Bousfield, please...

  • this is a DG recording and can be found on amazon easily...

  • First trombone sounded good on the solo but it wasn't quite loud enough.

  • yea I can name off all the trumpets and most of the horns but the trombone section is a complete mystery to me

  • what's the name of the trombone soloist?

  • I'm not sure actually. It doesn't say in the DVD case. If anyone can find out historical rosters, this is the Vienna Philharmonic from 1973.

  • @Tokkemon where did you get the DVD? I want to buy it too.

  • PMed you.

  • @Tokkemon PM me too? Where you got it? Thank you!

  • @lordlors Hey Tokkemon, can you also PM me about where you got the dvd because I would love to obtain one myself!

    -Thanks!! :)

    By the way, I subscribed!

  • @lordlors Can you also PM me, Tokkemon? I neeeed to know where you got the dvd!

    Thanks (btw, I subscribed!)

  • Rudolf Josel

  • @o00joe Rudolf Josel

  • @o00joe : the Trombone Soloist is most likely Rudi Jösel (spelt??)

  • @o00joe Probably Rudolf Josel??
