  • :( yeah i discovered this recently LOOL. I started with the MAC prep and prime and hadn't tried the make up forever stuff yet. luckily, they had one of those little "try me out" sizes. it's not the same at all. the girl at the store lied hahha big shocker there

    awesome post btw :)

  • I have the MUFE HD product that I only use to set my concealer under my eyes. Do you have any idea how to get rid of the white cast that appears during flash photography because of that powder?

  • @GettingBack2Happy you have to use a very little amount or it will have the cast! :O(

  • Thanks for replying to my other comment! i love your videos you make great reviews ! i have another question.. I am currently using Mac MSF natural but i wanna switch to a liquid foundation since i have really dry skin, but i need a setting powder to set the liquid foundation, do you think the mac prep and prime powder will work on my dry skin? I still want a dewy finish and a sheer coverage . thansk alot !

  • @xBabyTranx yes it is a transparent powder that is made for all skin types! :o)

  • Can you compare to the new mac compact prep and prime.

  • @sandyrgobin I don't own the new one- sorry!

  • To be honest I disagree. The MAC one is awful for sensitive skin. I think the cornstarch made me break out and I used it once (and my skin is not that sensitive). I love the MUFE one.

  • Would this be good for blotting thru the day? I don't really care for the blot powder an was hoping this would work.

  • @yreid21 no fix powder or blot powder would be better

  • how you use the prep and prime powder?? after foundation or before?

  • @SoniaMiroshkhina88 after foundation

  • I have both so far I like the mac much better. MUFE is in a sample size with only three holes and that stuff just falls out and when you open the cap it is everywhere and the cover is so small and hard to get. To me MUFE was smoother on my hand but on my face I did not see much different. Tape up the holes on the MAC I left three open, I took the original sticker off and used scotch take the sticker it comes with seeps out.

  • thnk you

  • Does the Mufe HD powder provide coverage?? (as it is not pigmented...) or does the foundation need to provide enough coverage in the first place...

  • @Cosi88 no it does not- it is translucent

  • hey lisa wich one its better for oily skin?

  • @childhoodMJJ I think the mac is

  • OMG I'M YOUR BIGGEST FAN I LOVE YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING THIS VIDEO IT HELPED ME SOO MUCH !!! :D

  • very helpful. i currently own the muf hd powder and love it but i will definitely buy the MAC one because of this review. I wonder if I'll notice a difference too. I love MAC anyway so I'm sure its gunna be great! Thanks!

  • like the detail and quickness of your reviews - you don't ramble too much like others who need 10mins to review one product!!! thanks - i just bought mufe powder, will tell you what i think!

  • And to solve you're problem with the product coming out to much I always flip it up side down then back up and tap the top of the MAKEUP FOEVER LID while closed then open it and have enough. For the face I also recommend this to be done on BARE MINERALS OK GUYS xoxo

  • Sorry but the MAKEUP FOREVER IS way better I'm a makeup artist and I do fashion Shows and by far the HD HELPS out .. I've also tried the translucent from TARTE and other brands and none have amazed me like the MAKEUP FOREVER

  • ok so whenever i use MUFE HD powder, when i take photos it gives off a white cast. does prep & prime do that? i really need to know.

p.s.- i don't use anything that has spf in it so there would be no reason for my skin to give off a white cast

  • @copyrightdaisy that is strange I have not noticed that happening with teh MAC one! I hope it works better for you!

  • @Lisasz09 i'll give it a try. thanks.

  • Hi Lisa which one is better for dry skin? Thanks

  • @kakaroxox I actually think the MUFE HD one would work best!

  • @shikamaruuchiha you can just put it on with a fluffy brush!

  • Can I use a bare minerals handy buki brush with mac prep n prime powder?

  • @XoUrLuV1oX yes you can! :o)

  • have you tried either the laura mercier loose powder or the mac select sheer loose powder? if so, what did you think of them?

  • @FASHIONISTADARLING I have not tried either of those- sorry!

  • do u put this on after all your makeup is on or after your foundation?

  • @annastamour1 I do both it just depends on the day and what I feel like using! It works either way!

  • I have used make up for ever hd powder for a while and I absolutely love it. I did decide to try the Mac powder as well...why? well because it is $8 less expensive than MUFE and if it worked the same than great! Honestly Mac does a great job and setting the foundation and oil control BUT...MUFE does all than PLUS reduces the size of my pore which is why I have used it and love it. The MUFE is a better choice for me since I have very large pores...

    bottom line, large pores: MUFE

  • what blush r u wearing in this video??

  • @hiphopbrokemahearrt Face- Dior Forever, EL Max coverage, powderflage, Chanel bronze universal, MAC peach twist, MSF refined, mac prep and prime powder--- I post it in the down bar if youa re ever wondering!

  • do you think it controls oil well throughout the day? thanks so much! =-D

  • @munkyjam91 they do ok but they are not amazing at controling oil!

  • the prep and prime where i live cost $22.... at the mac store. i dont remember how much makeup forever's powder is, i think $32.

  • I was wondering which brush do you use when applying prep and prim finishing powder ? Thx

  • @luckymirai I use my 150 brush! :o)

  • I own the mac prep and prime, and for me I LOVE it! The reason I find it so amazing is because it keeps my face from getting oily ALL day! I have really oily skin and this is the only product I have found that just looks so natural and keeps my makeup looking fresh and matte all day. I love itt!

  • could i use the prep and prime powder as a set powder for bare minerals? or would mineral veil be better?

    thanks!

  • @musefan410 yes you could! :o)

  • the prep + prime cost $32 where i live...

  • Dear Lisa, I set my makeup with Studio Fix powder every single day. However halfway through the day my T-zone will get shiny (although my face is dry in areas). Would you suggest the Mac PP powder? How does it compare to the Studio Fix Powder? Would you mind telling us ? :) Lots of thankyous for the high quality advice & reviews you deliver. Tineke x

  • I think the fix powder is better great for oils- you may need to use a oil control lotion before you put your makeup on. I just did a video on products for oily skin! :o)

  • Sorry - one more question :)

The Murad or so won't dry out my skin, right? x

  • you should use a daily moisturizer first to help make sure it doesnt dry your skin out!

  • can you tell me what foundation and blush you are wearing in this video? love the look! thanks!

  • I always post what i am wearing in the sidebar- it was Face- Dior Forever, EL Max coverage, powderflage, Chanel bronze universal, MAC peach twist, MSF refined, mac prep and prime powder! ;o)

  • Doesn't the mac prep and prime have corn starch in it which is like break out nightmare ingredient? :D

  • I am not sure but I have not had any issues!

  • Thanks for taking the time to reply! :)

  • Awesome review!!

  • hey didn't this break you out? I used it yesterday and today im breaking out :( i hope it's not it because its very expensive in Saudi

  • It did not break me out- I have heard about the MUFE HD breaking people out though!

  • this product and the bare minerals products, maybe because of the mica ingredient??? also makes me break.

I guess, like I, you shouldn't use mineral makeup.

for some people with acne problem the minerals work for others it makes it worse

  • mac is $21 and mufe is $30

  • Where can you find the Makeup Forever line?

  • online or at Sephora!

  • lisa, do u know if mac's prep n prime pwdr reflects whitish in photography? I noticed if u put too much product on from makeup 4ever HD pwdr, it would def show a white residue in pics (when in reality its flawless). so i returned my makefup 4ever one...scared of picture results.

  • I have not had an issue with the powder reflecting white in photos. I dont use much of this though.

  • your skin is really glowy on here!

  • Ah, I wish i watched this video first!

I just finished my Mac Prep and Prime

and I wanted to try something new so I purchased the MUF HD (just today! Ha.)

I think i'll take it for a test run first though.

    good review :D

  • Thank you! This was very helpful

  • you shouldnt be dipping your brush into the pot, but tapping the powder into the lid-dipping your brush into the lid and then buffing all over the face.

the makeup forever also does come with a super soft kabuki brush specifically for the hd powder :)

that being said, ive tried both- i was out of my mac prep + prime so i bought the mufe hd powder and i love both! :)

    hope that helped!

  • Lisa, which one is better for sensitive skin and blemish prone skin?i was thinking to buy the HD powder as ill use it as finishing powder rather than use it by itself. THX

  • They are very very similar, so either would work- I personally just like the MAC one better for finish! Enjoy!

  • i would suggest MUFE's HD one, simply because it's 100% silica, so it's good for sensitive skin. and there HAVE been people who felt that mac's dried their skin out, which is not good for sensitive skin. :)

  • @Kgal09 the MAC one has cornstarch in it which bacteria in skin can feed off...I personally love it & have NO problems with, but if you have acne proned skin the MUFE one is 100% silica..so shouldn't cause any additional issues

  • @loladfrog what? I don't understand? does the MAC one cause acne? I have a little bit of zits and I was wondering abour buying the MAC one ... can you explain please?

  • @6stefania6 if you go on make up alley some women says it does give you acne because it has cornstarch.

  • I love your review. You're straight to the point and don't babble on like most of the reviewers on here. You rock! x

  • does this work as a primer before eyeshadow?

  • no i use Urban Decay primer potion for my eyes! :o)

  • hi Lisa, have you ever tried the makeup forever face and body ?

  • no I have not tried it yet!

  • Do u use this instead of a mineralize skinfinish natural? Or are you suppose to put the prep and prime on top of it??? Thanks and great review again lisa!!!!!

  • yes I use it instead of MSFN. :o)

  • I think I've been watching your videos for like 3 hours, lol =o)

    *Rocksterize* makeup tutorials

  • what is the different between the Prep & Prime Translucent Powder and the Mac prep & prime transparent finishing powder? and..How do you excatly use this?

  • not much difference- they are very similar! I just put it on with a big fluffy brush! :o)

  • Do you think this product is fine for someone with very dry skin to use it?

  • yes I do because it does not settle in to lines or dry spots! :o)

  • ooh.. okay i will pick that up tomorrow.. thanks

  • but..but..your skin is really shiny..

  • hi lisa, do you have an opinion regarding the mac prep & prime vs. the mac pro invisible setting powder?

  • I have not used the pro invisible one yet! Sorry!

  • brush !

  • i disagree .. the MAKE UP FOR EVER HD POWDER is way better than MAC's.

my tip; try using the HD powder with MUFE's HD Foundation; it gives you a velvet smooth finish and it makes the foundation look very natural as well. it will mattify it for ages; and it doesn't CRACK ! thanks to its 100 % silica pigment free formula !

as for the packaging and it be hard to use; try using it with the brush that MUFE designed specifically for this powder; the Kabuki brush; its an extra soft synthetic

  • Thanks for that tip. What face primer do you use? I currently use Smashbox photo finish light and was going to switch to MUFE HD primer when I try out the hd foundation and powder.

    Thanks. :)

  • i have the mac prep and prime powder and it makes my skin look soo dry .. do you use it with a specific brush? if so which one x

  • I use my MAC 150 brush! I use such a small amount for my whole face! :o)

  • Dear lisa,

I have a suggestion for you on how to fix MUFE sifter that you wished to have kept have the plastic cover on. It's simple: just use scotch tape. Now enjoy

  • thank you for this.i asked 4 a review a lil' agao :-) oops

does it in any way control oil????

    hide pores???

  • It does slightly control oil and it does slightly hide pores! :o( Not a huge difference though!

  • this was super helpful! I was so mixed up for which one to go for and the MAC one is cheaper too so that's goood! haha :) THANKS!

  • i have the hd andi don't even use it....wasn't so impressed but will try the mac....thanks for doing the review.. =)

  • Thanks for the review-too bad I just bought the Make-up forever HD. I needed a translucent and got it last week to wear to a special function. It not only wasn't very good-it made my face itch and I had to go home and remove all of my make-up before going out. Hummm..wonder why? So I suppose I'll spring for the MAC. I read a great tip about using the translucent power to blend out a smoky eye would keep the color true and dark and not muddy and it really works!

  • that would be super cool if I could return products i don't like!!!

  • you can return opened make up items in the us?!

  • yes you can! :o)

  • Hey Lisa, Thank you for the tip about only taking off part of the seal from the sifter holes!! The HUGE amount of powder coming out of my MAC prep and prime sifter was driving me crazy! So, I carefully (CAREFULLY!!!) pried out the black sifter, poured the powder from the sifter back into the jar, cleaned the sifter and put packing tape over 2/3 of the holes. It took about 2 minutes and now everything works perfectly! HURRAY!

  • very helpful. after your video, i went out and purchased it (MAC prep and prime) and im loving it :) minimizes my pores too. big plus!!!!!!

    thanks :)

  • What i did with the Makeupforever HD Powder is that i put it in the Sephora refillable brush. You just use that little spatula that comes with the hd powder and scoop it into the bottom of the refillable brush, its pretty cool cuz you can put whatever loose powder u want and the brush is pretty big. Its actually alot easier to use because like you said the powder in the container kinda over flows. So thats just an idea of how i use it and i dont grab for this everyday either.

  • I just ordered the MAC prep + prime online like yesterday, so now I'm even more excited to get it lol. Thanks for the review =)

  • Hi Lisa

I was wondering if u could make a quick video just letting every1 know that M.A.C is having a 25% off sale online only the 16th-18th ONLINE ONLY the check out code is SUMO !

    Thanks STARR

  • Check out code is SAVE25 not SUMO. I just placed my order!!!

  • is the mac prep and prime going all over the place and as fine as th mufe on? the mufe one is basically flying around in the air and gets into my eyes :(

  • yes they are very similar- MAC does fly around as much but close!

  • ah! you're wearing the dior forever foundation :o) i love ittttt! i have recently started wearing it and i love it i'm obsessed with how light & how much coverage it gives at the same time.

    Great Video Lisa :o)

  • i love th eprep n prime and it really does feel like silk!!

  • it feels very silky!

  • Thanks, as always, for your honest review.

    Blessings.

  • I believe the MAC P&P is 422 and the MUF HD is $30.00.

  • Your skin looks gorgeous in this video!

  • hi lisa! thanks for the review.. but one quick QUESTION: how are these products as far as oil control & shine? how long does it keep you from the shine? or how long must you apply it each day? i'm really considering these products for my wedding makeup, and i don't know which one would be the best for an outdoor, summer wedding.

  • They help set and reduce the oil but they do not clock it- Murad Mattifying cream is teh best for clocking oil. I think that is best and it works as a primer for your wedding day! :o) Enjoy!

  • what do u mean by 'clocking'? cheers hun. x

  • opps I meant blocking- I am the worst at typos! I wish there was spell check on youtube! :oP

  • Great video Lisa! You seem to do a lot of reviews on things im curious about. Thanks so much!

  • hi lisa i have bought Mac prep n prime , not sure how to apply it, i mean which brush is best for this product? good review :)

  • I have the same question. How would you recommend it be applied?

  • I use my MAC 150 or a big fluffy brush- you need very little product!

  • I use my MAC 150 or a big fluffy brush- you need very little product!

  • You have such an infectious personality Lisa!! I love watching your videos so much! :) This was a great review, as usual! xoxo Anna

  • Thanks girl- you are so sweet! :o)

  • Hey Lisa, have you tried or heard anything about the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation?

  • I have not yet tried it but I have heard good things about it!

  • your makeup looks really nice in this video :)

  • Awesome comparison. I was just thinking about the MAC Prep and Prime. I returned my MUFE HD Powder. Thanks, Lisa. Hope you had a nice vacation after your hard work!

  • Make up looks nice today

  • I'm not sure if you cut back on the self-tanner or if you did your makeup differently, but you look fabulous here!!! So gorgeous.

  • Hi Lisa! Whats the best brush to apply the MAC Prep and Prime? Also, are there any alternatives on the cheaper side? thank you :)

  • Your reviews are excellent. Your make up looks so pretty.

  • I have the MAC and I find that when I just apply it under the eyes after my concealer & foundation, it sticks to the eyes and dries it out.

Am I applying it wrong? I know I have dryness under the eye but it makes it a lot worse.

Also what brush do you use/recommend for applying all over the face and just for applying it under the eyes?

Thanks for much for this video!! :)

  • you need a very very very small amount or it will settle in the lines. I use my 224 to put it around my eyes!

  • I agree with everyone else! You really do look awesome in this vid!

  • The MAC Powder is my favorite setting powder in the world!

First of all, its cheap than the MUFE and it also gives me this nice soft focus look. Makes my skin look soo beautiful! =D

  • The makeup forever is $30 at the sephora website and the MAC is $21

  • Thank you for doing this review Lisa!! I have been looking for a good finishing powder to set my foundation and was interested in the MAC Prep & Prime one but was kinda skeptical about it. I plan on purchasing it Tuesday when MAC has the F&FS!!! Have a great weekend!

  • How would either compare to the Coastal Scents Siicon powder? I need the MAC one. Thank you.

  • i am not sure I havent used the CS one.

  • Thank god you did this review! I'm sold on the MAC one!

  • love your video's! you look so pretty!

  • So you put the MAC one on after your foundation, right? I'm just asking because usually primers go before foundation.

  • its just called prep and prime

    but its a setting powder

  • yes it is a setting powder for use after your foundation!

  • Thanks for this review! I've been wondering about this...and btw, you look FABULOUS in this video!!!

  • I tried the MUFE HD one in Sephora and I didn't really feel a huge difference to spend that much money on it so I'm glad I was able to test it out

  • I've been using this for about a month and a half and I absolutely love it! Thanks for the review!

  • super helpful! i never ever reach for my HD powder....it was one of those things i thought i had to have...but no! :)

  • great info wit this vid.love ur hair.review 2 thumbs up ;-)

  • i love your make up in this video! you're gorgeous as always!

  • Thanks so much for this review!

  • great review!!!! I'm gonna look into the mac one!!

  • I purchased the the Makeup Forever HD about a month ago, and I have the same feelings as you do, it's okay but I don't reach for it everyday. I have heard that the MAC one was better. Thanks for the review! Take Care!

  • MAC does it better.

  • i love the mac prep and prime. it really controls oily skin and just makes your skin look good w/out even any foundation. but yeah just peel back the sticker a little bit because the powder is so messy without the sticker to control it from getting all over.

  • hey lisa, I have a question. I just bought the prep and prime powder you reviewed, as well as a mineral skin finish natural. So my routine is revlon colorstay foundation, then the msf natural and then the prep and prime? or if i use the msf natural in between am i making the whole prep and prime pointless? should i just do my foundation and then the prep and prime to get the results it gives?

  • you can use it either way. I have used it both ways! :o) It is just great fir setting any makeup!

  • Even though I have the HD one, I feel like getting the prep n prime anyway, cos its MAC!:)

  • i get the same problem with the hd powder lid :/

  • haha, right at the end of every video of hers, just before the "dont forget to comment ratedescribe thing she does such a fake smile, like a grimace, She dus it the whole time lol good video though,, very helpful

  • I think the MAC is $28 and the MUFE is $30.. So you get a a little more for $2 price difference. I have a MAC Select loose powder, and I think their version has that same silky powder texture. But the MUFE holds oil for me all day unlike the MAC, and it's lighter. Just test before you buy, and you'll be happier getting the right one for your skin. :)

  • the MAC one is actually $21 vs MUFE $30

  • can anyone answer this? can you use the mac prep and prime over mineral foundation? thanks.

  • yes you can use it ober MSF!

  • i have oily skin... is the mac prep and prime finishing powder good for that?

  • yes it is- but I would suggest murad mattufying cream- it is amazing!

  • thanks lisa:) it means a lot that you would help me out like that:)

    you are gorggg<3

  • oh i forget its the mac one and not the mufe.

  • i use this all the time to set my foundation and it works great every time. no marks on my clothes either so i am happy. i have 3 tubs of the stuff for back up, well i dont want to run out of it...lol.

  • Thank you lisa for saving me 10 bucks! Whats the deal with the 25% off with MAC? Anyone please reply. ☺ I like dumping powders onto a small demitasse plate. I swear it loads your brush perfectly. Try it! Thanks for the review! ~♫ ☼ ♫~

    Nevermind!
