  • Okay.... hmm.... well.... how do I say this?

I love you! This vid was perfect! 5 stars, without a doubt. You got it spot on! Who knows, that court case is coming up. *crosses fingers* Can't wait to hear the outcome of that!

Peace and keep your hopes up, because this world is changing everyday, you never know what tomorrow will bring.

    ~Robyn

  • @CheckmGood, Merry Christmas to you too.

  • this gay wad is a narcissist. needs a good size 12 boot ass kicking. loves to see her self in the mirror and on camera. hope you choke on a AIDS infested cock.

  • I ahte how today Prop 8 was kept in California. Even thought they still keep marriages that had been made when it was legal intact its still saddening. When will they ever make the right choice? When will I be equal to my non-homosexual siblings or friends? when?

  • This is one of the best videos I have seen on this subject. Way to go and keep it up for clearly by the decision made today the fight is not over yet. One day...

  • Sean Chapin you have done a fantastic job with this video.

I was so happy you made this. Thank you with all of my heart.

  • Why does your country put human rights up for a vote?

  • Cuz the Government is full of idiots

  • Indeed, I used to think it was a bad thing the Irish constitution didn't have popular initiative, but now I see how it can be abused, majority vote on minority rights is absurd, as is there mere fact that prop8 could legally be even put to a vote.

Imagine a referendum on the right of a Christian to marry a Muslim? Imagine the outrage.

  • Loved the first part of the video, but you lost mega points with the Nazi comparison. Actually, EVERY argument loses points by resorting to a Nazi comparison.

Doesn't mean I don't want you as my husband... once it's again legal :-D

  • oc9876, I debated inside my head whether to keep or take out the part about discussing the Holocaust as an example of what could happen when the potential for a tyrannical majority exists, and I chose to keep it as part of the video because it is a real event that did happen, and if it could happen in Germany, it could happen to anyone. If you could believe it, there were some columnists who were actually comparing George W. Bush's actions/policies to Hitler. This event needs to be respected.

  • People definitely overuse the nazi comparison in a hysterical way but it's usually when talking about a politician they don't like.

THERE ARE very valuable lessons to be learned from the nazi era though...in this case what happens when you allow a majority to become a scapegoat. The German constitution banned referendums because of their misuse in that era.

  • While I promote same-sex marriage, I don't think this video is the best reponse to Prop 8. While bad, Prop 8 does not call into question any US history. And going for the Nazi argument is always a sure way to lose credibility. Keep focused on what Prop 8 actually does. It diminishes families. It weakens marriage. It provides a government service to one group, but not another group, for no reason other than bias. It promotes hatred. That's all that needs to be said.

  • rg0057, feel free to take a look at how i responded to another comment that discussed mentioning the Nazi argument. In short, if a historical event actually did occur, it could happen again, even in a place that would seem highly unlikely like the US, for history has a way of repeating itself. Germany in the 30's was living out of fear, and the US was verging on going down the same path. I'm very glad we elected Barack Obama, who campaigned for hope over fear, as our current President.

  • the most idiotic thing about allowing the people to decide a law, is that the law itself could be immoral. what is happening with california and other states that have illegalized gay marriage is just like asking the citizens of that state to illegalize interracial marriage.

two CONSENTING human adults is the issue.

what some of the states are doing is implementing bigotry into their state constitutions and turning the pages back centuries of progress-in-the-making.

  • "The government needs to step in" [1]

  • Society's views are changing. A lot of people in California voted for prop. 8 for stupid reasons, and even then it was a close vote. It needs to be overturned. The government needs to step in, just like it did when the South was so resistant to important and necessary change regarding the civil rights of blacks in the 60s.

We depend on our representatives and courts to make tough decisions based on reasonable thought and argument, and to protect those who might be abused by a majority.

  • We have a constitution for a reason. The transient will of the people CANNOT overturn the basic foundational principles the state/country was founded upon. If it could, we'd still have laws against interracial marriage and integrated schools. We are not a pure democracy, we're a constitutional democracy. Learn to love it.

  • California has nearly 37 million people. Just a hair over 7 million voted for Prop h8.

That means they couldn't even get almost 30 million people to agree with enough to even bother to get off their ass and vote.

The people stayed home. The Christianists and the rightwing whack jobs stole some rights, and even did that the lazy, cheating way.

  • Also, take into consideration that a few million of those people are probably well under the age to legally vote.

However, I don't disagree with you.

  • Human rights protect people from democrasy. Sounds wierd doesn't it? But its true. Rights protect the minority from the majority. An issue like prop 8 should NEVER have been a vote. Just like you'd never have a vote to toss all Armanians citizens out of America.

  • At a minimum, they should rule it out due it the Prop 8 folks taking the lazy, cheating way out and putting it on as a proposition instead of a revision. For them to argue it doesn't impact "a lot of people" or it does impact a bunch of people, "but in a minor way" is ludicrous - and that's what revisions require.

When their original decision was made it made every single newspaper in the world, as well as every newsletter and fundraising appeal on the religious right!

    Bastards!

  • I suggest another exercise of our "very, very broad, well-wrought" authority to amend the state's governing framework at the ballot box... a ban on Christianity.

Oh, they can still be religious... why its "only a simple word"... they can call themselves jews.

And all except for that one silly little testament, its practically the same thing!

Best of all, even Ken Starr agrees California voters have an inalienable right" to amend the constitution. He won't have any problem with it!

  • thank you!

  • Sean:

Your cogent argument built on solid wording is compelling and irrefutable. Great great work. We need more Seans in California and in the United States.

  • Sean Chapin, with your candour, charm and eloquent words you might really help people understand how important it is for Americans to maintain their inalienable rights. I wish we had more clear spoken people like you around!

    Thank you!

  • you should run for delegate of your state :D

  • As always another great video. Hmm some reason the video had more impact with the nice legs go figure... ;O)
