Whoever made this remix caught the spirit of the original SID tune. This is a masterpiece. Respect, respect, respect... to Ben Daglish and to the author of this remix!
Goosebumps... Teenage years flooding back. The sounds and music made the C64 games come alive. The originality of the songs are never - or very rarely - seen these days in games. The musicians back then were actually masters and not just dudes "making music".
Great, I ove it! I was six when I heard this song last time- old memories return, when I was the ninja and the graphic was wonderfull- thank you for this!
You guys should search on Instant Remedy - Last ninja (The Palace) Hear it out and tell me what you think of that! That is ofc if you like the music here ^^
As you know, a large part of the program was developed for the order of Marc Cale, in fact in Hungary, for more than a year by a team of young mathematicians and programming geniuses, called SoftView.
System 3 took over the 85% completed game and after the finishing strokes, it was released without listing the name of the whole Hungarian team on their alleged request.
It is high time to make up for the recognition, at least...
i don't know why people say there is no good gaming music today anymore. look at some sega games which have awesome soundtracks (daytona, sega rally, ssx, quake, unreal tournament, and much more). there still is very very good soundtracks out there, so stop staying in the past!
@xxxblackvenomxxx Hey, let the old guys keep their nostalgia. If I grew up with awesome music like this, I'd want to stay in the past as well. I see what you mean though. There are many great video game soundtracks out today. Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy, Silent HIll...
Ahem - this ain't my remix...unless I did it while asleep or something! No idea where it came from, but if I was ever to do a remix, I'd be a little bit more, ermmm, 'creative'.! SURELY you can't believe this is really me, Reyn? :)
@bendaglish See? That's what you get for not uploading your tracks to Youtube: Users try to find replacements and fall for impostors! To bad there aren't any "official" videos on Youtube... (BTW: There is a hint in this comment...)
Thank you for uploading this man. I fired up my c64 emulator cause of this . Last time I played it when it came out all those years ago... and you know what I still remembered the first level layout!!! I dont know whether to rejoice or despair at my misspent youth!!! hahah. killing that dragon it took me months to do it and I did it by chance. Thanx for bringing back those memories...happy time.
That is how a lot of remixes work, for sure - but this would've been something running through the sid chip originally so I doubt it'd be a midi file to start with - the C64 didn't play midis so whoever did this would have learnt the track and then sequenced it I reckon.
Cmon.. you were kids when you played these games.. Of course you think games today suck. But in the future, people will get all nostalgic when thinking Halo3 etc..
See, I don't think so. "Halo 1+2+3+Wars", "GTA 1+2+3+Vice City+San Andreas+Liberty City Stories+Vice City Stories+4", "Quake 1-4", "Doom 1-3" yada-yada-yada... oh god, just this is an awesome evidence for how uncreative and overflowed the modern game industry is... exceptions prove the rule, of course.
Why should I remember a game, that existed in 5.000 variations? Is Halo really anything special? No, it's not!
Meh, I almost forgot when I got that disinterested in video games...
Limited resources forces people to be creative. You can see this clearly in classic games. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of games that did suck.
For a 7-year old today, Halo would be perceived as epic or retro when he/she grows older. The 7-year old will hear the Halo theme 15 years from now and perceive it as retro just as us "old" geeks perceive the songs of C64 today.
Sure they can, they don't, but they definitely can. Without comparing the fact that older games are exclusively created using synthesizer technology, you can't tell me the Halo theme isn't epic. It sounds to me like you have an affinity for the synthesizer.
I found the Halo theme cheesy. It felt like an attempt to be epic that failed pretty miserably. Meanwhile, taken in context, the boss fight theme in Sir Sweet's palace (the boss rush stage) in Prinny: 'Can I really be the Hero?' was pretty epic. Also, a fantastic example would be the Lechku and Nechku fight in Okami, particularly with Shiranui tossing epic spells.
Epic themes tend to mesh well with the story - celebrating the character's journey or hailing the beginning of an epic tale.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Like I said. You CAN'T tell me the Halo theme isn't epic. You are biased so I don't particularly care for your opinion. Besides, you kids take dork to the next level so I'm not likely to listen to you talk about your affinity for shitty old video games and the terrible, repetitious monosynth themes that, without the help of idiots like Ben Daglish, would have faded into obscurity where they belong.
That's a pretty strong reaction for being unbiased.
I think you fail to understand the concept that good video game music, like most music, is timeless, and doesn't really fade into obscurity. Also, you completely missed my references to modern games apparently, so your "shitty old video games" comment doesn't really have any weight.
Sounds like someone has a grudge and a lot of misplaced anger.
Your a complete idiot. Shitty old video games? This is where it started. Without this - you wouldnt have your kiddy halo BS. Dont reply as i wont care about your crappy halo ass.
i really can NOT agree with you. seriously, what makes these "old shitty games" so epic is the fact that they were something special, something NEW. also, kids at that time didn't have 108.512 games for this console, 314.234 for that console and 34.298 for another console, they had just FEW games. to be honest, HALO is just another game of millions. furthermore, daglish was making this music alone, coding it with numbers, he didn't have a whole orchestra and wasn't even a professional musican.
What i said was a defense against a listener who has no respect for progression and what gaming music has become. Let it be understood, i realize that modern gaming soundtracks are much less creative than they used to be, but he tried to say the Halo theme was less than epic.. which is a matter of opinion. So I hit him with my opinion. To be honest..I think Halo is a terrible game, but i was talking about the monk chant. Its the ONLY thing that makes me want to play the game.
its this simple, modern game music is recorded in a studio and then played back like a cd or mp3.
as you are aware in days gone by the music was sequenced and most importantly synthesized with a dedicated soundboard, this also fact also lets them get away with digital sampled sound, while still being 100% generated from dedicated hardware, not a cd playback.
the stawars theme was on many platforms, but that game music, it was recorded by orchestra in a studio, like modern game music.
i mean to say starwars is not game music, it was recorded and composed outside of a computer. early game music was like an orchestra playing in your home.
Sends shivers down my spine even after all these years, without doubt the best game ever bar non, graphics, music, gameplay this had the lot. I pity any gamer on the planet who hasn't played The Last Ninja.
For the actual SID files you look up the High Voltage SID collection on Google and it will let you download them.
Then download SID2Play for WIndows and enjoy, you can even convert the files into WAV files which can then be turned into mp3 format, my mp3 player has tons of SID tunes on it.
hell yeah, NOD32 all the way, that shit is the best, highly recommended, if your willing to pay for virus protection and a hell of a lot better than Norton or McAfee
That's the damn truth. It was the soundtracks to these old C64 games that got me started in music in the first place. I remember when I first loaded up The Last Ninja and was utterly floored by the awesomeness!
