Always loved this song. I wish Stryper did more of the heavier/faster stuff and just stayed away from ballads and any southern style glam rock (like the entire against the law album, lame garbage.)
Their were a lot of technical difficulties that night... Something was wrong with Oz's guitar at one point and Robert couldn't hear some of the vocals... As far as Michael 'couldn't wait to get off stage', you're out of your mind. If they had more time, they would have played longer but the club booked a stupid Lady Gaga metal tribute afterwards and legions of douchebags walked in while Michael was saying his prayer at the end of the show.
...and don't forget, when Michael originally left the band, they didn't replace him, Oz took over. Sure it was short lived but that I am sure was because it wouldn't be the same musically and visually without Michael. As far as the sound probelms, their were many. I am putting up more videos today, I am sure some of them you will see Michael pointing to the sound guy to fix something...
First off, Michael Sweet is 47 years old.. he has been singing like this for 29 years in this band. Of course his voice isn't perfect. Does Jon Bon Jovi sing the high notes anymore? NO! So who cares? But your argument on how he sounded that night is ridiculous. You said something about Michael letting Oz sing parts of "Over the Mountain".. That is what bands do.. You would be surprised how much Oz sang in this band over the past 25+ years...
Well... I have to say that your concerns are unfounded. I was at this show and on several of the songs Michael hit high note after high note. I can tell you that the guys were struggling mightily with their monitor mix that night. For whatever reason the tech who did the stage mix was way off. At the 7:15 mark of this video you can actually hear the feedback screeching. Unfortunately it was a problem the entire show. The band simply couldn't hear themselves properly.
@spudnutsncoffee I too was at the show and I will tell flat out you are dead wrong about Mike loosing his vocal abilities. The band never sounded better despite the sound gliches. The sound guy working the stage monitors sucked, I was watching him and he looked lost. I also noticed that the band were not using in ear monitors, that can play a big part in not being able to hear yourself. There will be a lot more Stryper coming for many more years,
Michael is losing the ability to sing. Trust me. He is struggling. His vocal chords and muscles in his throat are exhausted. Do not be surprised if Michael announces he will not longer be able to perform to the level he needs. Hey, he is older now, but it could also be something else. All I know is that OTM us not that hard to sing and Michael had to get OZ to take the lead vocals. This is troubling.
@spudnutsncoffee the only reason Mike lets Oz sing a few lines in Over The Mountain is because, its an Ozzy Osbourne song and Oz named himself after Ozzy, DUH. Your reading into a few tech problems way to much my friend.................and FYI, if you watch the video of them playing The Rock That Makes Me Roll and near the end Mike yells out " Dennis, sing for me my Brother".......that was me!!! They rocked Showcase Live huge!!
@spudnutsncoffee never said you weren't, I just think it sounds like your reading too much into a few sound problems. I am glad you like Stryper, I wish more people were like you & me and the people who run radio stations around here would wake up and play Stryper's music. I still hear Motley Crue, Ratt & Poison on the radio and Stryper has way more talent than some of those guys in those bands. Mike runs circles around guys like Brett Michaels, Vince Neil & Stephen Pearcy.

You will also notice that Michael could not wait to get off stage. Again, I hate to be an alarmist but this is troubling.

@zildjsecret Gotta love fanboys. Hey, just because I expressed some concerns does not mean I am not a fan. I love Stryper too :)

This was a great show. The second bible that Michael tossed out, during 'Over the Mountain' came home with me that night.
