The reality of it is....national parks are a place to retreat from the norm and take a look at the mastery of nature....it can be a very personal thing....I am sure ...if given the chance most people would love to go there.....but hectic life styles and a gofast, satisfy me now attitude in America usually ends up at disney or some shit....Go to a park and relax....regardless of your background....it can make you a better person.

I don't get these comments. The ranger stated he believed the original disassociation of blacks and reconnecting with nature started with slavery, not that blacks get reminded of slavery when they go camping. Swing and a miss debbie.

In fairness, he's quite correct. During the summer, I work for a NFP called cityWILD. My job: river rafting guide. I've been to more than 1 event trying to drum up business & what I often get from our people is "you know Black folks don't like water". Here in CO, there's obviously skiing. So imagine my chagrin when our people here tell me that snowboarding is "that White boy shit". Bear in mind, I'm from Chicago's South Side but I've got Denver natives tryna tell me what "hood" is.
