great comic book. as a kid i was amazed at the battle. as an adult i understand the necessity of finishing your opponent as quikly as possible. facing a being with that much power and the intent to kill only. superman should have laser shot him in the skull and fried doomsdays brain and walked off like in the justice league cartoon.
So how does superman kill doomsday in the comic the same way as the movie doing the orbital slam as I like to call it either way the comic and movie shows that superman is a true hero raised to use his powers for good and would have laid down is life a thousand times over to save others.

@Zach979 I never said the stats were on DC.com. Officially DC has Doomsday's speed as matching Superman's, that's number one. Number two, what they said, their reactions, aren't always accurate. It may have simply been how they felt since they themselves are not capable of super speed. Finally, when one makes a set fight like this, who would beat who, we set a standard of what form of the character it is, when in canon it is that they are fighting to determine that current level of strength.

Chances are they'd be locked forever in battle, no one side over the other.
Sorry but Doomsday would beat Hulk eventually. Doomsday can't be killed by being beaten to death and if he was he'd just come back more powerful. And as far as the 'destroying the city in a fight' criticism goes, I challenge anyone to find a superhero that doesn't constantly destroy everything around them in a fight--that's just part of the whole superhero genre.
@mirth12 True and not true. Flash is much faster than Superman, at least Barry Allen and Wally West. Jay Garrick not so much and honestly I never figured out why. It's true that Superman can move at speeds which Doomsday should never be able to hit him. However, he never did that during the fight, focusing instead on power to bring Doomsday down. I'm guessing he believed he didn't have the time and neither did Metropolis for him to be tricky :)
Not up for debating who would beat who, but, you have to admit Doomsday solved the Superman complex pretty well. Superman went from being a demi-god to a under-dog. So that's major villain points for Doomsday.

Superman could beat the Hulk, it may not be easy given the Hulk's strength. But then one would have to take in account the unlimited power that Superman would have from the yellow sun. The Hulk has effectively limitless strength and a healing factor rivaled by few. There is literally nothing Doomsday could do to kill him, while on the other hand we have seen he (DD) will die if he gets pounded down enough.
True, but what you have to keep in mind is that the results of those fights were voted on by the fans. Think real hard about everything you've learned about the Hulk and you'll know it would never be that easy for Superman to do, if at all.

@Lol8922 Yes, we know. However, one thing they've never done/answered, at least as far as I know, is pit him against someone with similar properties, i.e the Hulk. He can't be killed the same way twice this is true. But what I'm getting at is maybe he can be killed by varying degrees of things, similar to the Phalanx from X-Men. They'd adapt to it at first, but then just get hit even harder and be destroyed. Banshee has demonstrated this via different pitches of his scream.
Each one has the potential and relative power to do so, but if I had to pick one, then definitely Hulk during the World War Hulk line. That was a Hulk with a level of pissed off I have never seen him at :)
I agree, World War Hulk wasn't even stopped by the power of a MILLION exploding suns, so I don't think Superman, who most of the time gets his power from ONE non-exploding sun, could defeat him there, not with the anger and motivation the Hulk had during that story arc, it was totally badass. And I also agree that there is no way Doomsday could kill Hulk, sure, he'd give him hell of a fight, but it simply isn't possible to beat the Hulk in a straigh-out fist battle.
I can't help but feel that all DC really did when they created DoomsDay is in many ways copy Marvel's Incredible Hulk. I would L-O-V-E however to see a Marvel-DC crossover comic with Red Hulk vs DoomsDay. Be a helluva fight-one for the ages imo.

Remember that he is the only being in the DC Universe who is actually able to KILL Superman and Superman fought for his life against Doomsday. And he can not be killed, because he always returns, even stronger and without his old weaknesses.

At the beginning Doomsday was the ultimate killing machine without any thoughts - He just wanted to kill and destroy. Doomsday was resurrected once or something like that and given a mind and emotions. That's where he became "smart" but also incredibly weak, because he feared the death - Since then he was never able to defeat Superman again.

@saix1498 yeah but superman starts off with such a high strength level that it would take hulk quite a while for him to get angry enough to match or surpass superman's. and by then superman could find a way to stop or defeat hulk

@supercooltime Don't underestimate Hulk's base strength level either. And don't forget, when Hulk fought Superman, the outcome was decided by fan votes, not by actual ability. But, truth be told, this debate is getting neither side anywhere. I vote we agree to disagree.

@blacklightining100 And where did that happen? I've been on Red Hulk from day one and the worst thing he did was take the Hulk out of Banner, which recently was undone when Banner reabsorbed gamma radiation. Red Hulk never killed him.

@blacklightining100 If we're talking a race then the Flash, quite obviously. In battle I'd have to ask, how could the Flash win? Sure he could probably vibrate his molecules to phase through the Hulk and injure him that way but Hulk's got regen. I'd have to give it to Hulk. Truth told though, it's not a good match up.

Superman would completly massacre the Hulk. Sure the Hulk fights harder when he's angry...but, can the Hulk fly? Does the Hulk have laser vision? Does the Hulk have ice-breath? No, no and nope. Maybe in a fist fight, but overaall, Hulk stands no chance...

Think about what you say before you make a fool of yourself....lol Doomsday beat superman in every comic till they came up with a stupid way to make supes win. The only reason they let him win over the Hulk is because a coin flip. The hulk is stronger and a better fighter than doomsday so lets be real and see it for what it is!!

Ermm no...Doomsday would kill the Hulk and there's no way that any writer in the comic book industry could cheekily say 'You know what? He's not actually dead.'
Doomsday would rip the Hulk to shreds....and unless the green of the Hulk is made out of Kyrptonite, Hulk has no chance against Superman.

Not true. The Hulk has shown that he can adapt his body to survive in any environment, such as when he developed the ability to breathe underwater.

Superman could beat the Hulk, it may not be easy given the Hulk's strength. But then one would have to take in account the unlimited power that Superman would have from the yellow sun. Superman's faster and much stronger. Also Superman has his powers as a trait but Hulk as a result of an incident. Superman could go 8 months without the yellow sun if there was a red sun. Could the Hulk really fight for 8 months straight? We all know the Hulk can let loose. Have we seen Superman do so yet? No

And when he does let loose, Superman has the ability to become a planet destroyer if he really wanted to. Its been stated hundreds of times. Not dissin the Hulk tho, he's cool. Its just pure power 1 on 1, Superman has the upperhand.

was created Before Kryptonians were on
Krypton as a raging Hulk. And Doomsday
went through JLA losers like Booster Gold

The idea of Doomsday ever killing the Hulk smells of DC Vs Marvel fanboyism.
The Hulk has effectively limitless strength and a healing factor rivaled by few. There is literally nothing Doomsday could do to kill him, while on the other hand we have seen he (DD) will die if he gets pounded down enough.

True, but what you have to keep in mind is that the results of those fights were voted on by the fans. Think real hard about everything you've learned about the Hulk and you'll know it would never be that easy for Superman to do, if at all.

But, and this is the thing, he is not immortal. He can be killed. And the Hulk could kill him. Probably not right off the bat though, gotta get him angry enough :)

@Lol8922 Yes, we know. However, one thing they've never done/answered, at least as far as I know, is pit him against someone with similar properties, i.e the Hulk. He can't be killed the same way twice this is true. But what I'm getting at is maybe he can be killed by varying degrees of things, similar to the Phalanx from X-Men. They'd adapt to it at first, but then just get hit even harder and be destroyed. Banshee has demonstrated this via different pitches of his scream.

Each one has the potential and relative power to do so, but if I had to pick one, then definitely Hulk during the World War Hulk line. That was a Hulk with a level of pissed off I have never seen him at :)

I agree, World War Hulk wasn't even stopped by the power of a MILLION exploding suns, so I don't think Superman, who most of the time gets his power from ONE non-exploding sun, could defeat him there, not with the anger and motivation the Hulk had during that story arc, it was totally badass. And I also agree that there is no way Doomsday could kill Hulk, sure, he'd give him hell of a fight, but it simply isn't possible to beat the Hulk in a straigh-out fist battle.

I can't help but feel that all DC really did when they created DoomsDay is in many ways copy Marvel's Incredible Hulk. I would L-O-V-E however to see a Marvel-DC crossover comic with Red Hulk vs DoomsDay. Be a helluva fight-one for the ages imo.

Why Red Hulk? Hulk has beaten Red Hulk with one punch. Hulk is clearly stronger then Doomsday, and even if Hulk wasn't as strong as Doomsday, eventually, Hulk would grow stronger then Doomsday.

Why is Hulk clearly stronger then Doomsday? Because Doomsdays punches are not hitting Superman to the moon? Remember that he is the only being in the DC Universe who is actually able to KILL Superman and Superman fought for his life against Doomsday. He was trying to KILL Doomsday but he was not able to do it properly. Just like the Hulk Doomsday is also getting stronger and stronger. And he can not be killed, because he always returns, even stronger and without his old weaknesses.

No, if I'm not wrong, that is not true.
At the beginning Doomsday was the ultimate killing machine without any thoughts - He just wanted to kill and destroy. Doomsday was resurrected once or something like that and given a mind and emotions. That's where he became "smart" but also incredibly weak, because he feared the death - Since then he was never able to defeat Superman again.
