I'm 100% positive that the pickups here aren't Big Dippers. The BDs are the mass-production version of the pups in Mayer's personal sig strat. These are custom, handwound pickups per jm specs and whatnot. Which is the main reason it's such a distinct sound even from john mayer's normal sig strat. But you can get custom wound pups with the sparkley top end, piano like bass and scooped mids from benson handwounds, klein pickups, curtis novak, or a number of o

@EJ1202 i'm actually not sure about what the pickups are. the guitar didn't come with any literature, only a bag. from speaking with different people, they seem to think they are custom wound by john cruz. i would really like to know to be honest. i'll add info to the description if i ever find out. thanks!

@phelps7754 Could it be the Big Dippers with scooped mids? Thats what the signature model has, and those are the pick ups Mayer specifically chose for it

@phelps7754 The pickups are most likely custom shop Big Dipper pick ups, They are on most of JM signature strats. Sadly you can't actually buy them but you can buy 60's pick ups which apparently sound the most similar to the Big Dipper pick ups. How did you get the drums and stuff in this video?  I know you said you had a loop-pedal and such. What exactly do you have goin?

i'm using a Boss RC-2. It has some simple drum beats that when you trigger a loop (as i did after the little rhythm part in this vid) the drum part plays automatically behind whatever you just played.

i'm only using two pedals: Boss RC-2 and Ibanez TS808 reissue

its a reissue... it sounds a little different from other reissued TS808's i've played though. i bought it use and i think somebody attempted to mod it at one point? i dont know but i really like it. it tends to be a little more mellow than most 808s... could just be a bad connection inside the box though who knows

yeah! i'm pretty happy with how the sound came through. I'm using a boss rc-2... I'm not in love with the thing but it does its job when i'm just messing around at home. I'd like to have the rc-20xl or rc-50 if i was going to loop at shows... they're also pretty freakin expensive. Very fun to play with though and a good thing to help with writing
