  • People do not search out these travel vids to get a political history of Ho Chi Minh or to get into a political argument. Take all that to another site.

  • Ho Chi Minh City is not Saigon. Saigon is the true name. Ho Chi MInh City is what the north Vietnamese called them....Anyway, SAIGON is the city name...

  • @thantai2 HoChiMinh was a mass murder, a traitor and a a&&hole.

  • I am living and working Ho Chi Minh City. I love people that live in HCMC (Saigon), I love HCMC

  • w w w . watchtower . org / vt / index . html Việt Nam

  • Did you know that the Ben Thanh market is way more expensive then other markets in HCMC? And the people are rude in my opinion. 'Sir do you want to buy this..' Aight, my dad was going crazy. However, if you want to experience Vietnam, you should go to the countryside, places like Mui Ne, Nha Trang, Hoi An & Hué.

  • they still call it saigon?

  • @Evan7893 Ho Chi Minh City is used as formal name like in TV, newspaper ect

  • I love Saigon before 1975 but not Hochiminh City

  • Honestly, Vietnam is beautiful but ur pronunciation was soo not good. I love Vietnam but I think u should talk a little bit clearer, it sounded really bad , really, no kidding.

  • Really, how do you tell the difference? Whether it be Japan, China, Korea, or Viet Nam, these people are basically alike. They look pretty much alike except, I guess for the degree of eye slant, they're all short, and talk alike and use the same clipped English. They do work hard and are respectful to the white man. Some have bowed to me. They do not wish to bring shame on family.

  • oh sdfu trying to be funny? retard... white ppl all look alike so do black ppl... u dumas. stop saying stupid... if u notice black ppl have slanted eyes, or u dont have the balls to say it to them?.

  • @aznkillerd Black people do look alike. While they don't have slanted eyes, they often do have big lips and nappy hair, and yes I have said it to their faces

  • @fruticetum You can see how they are different if you have a careful look. The way they speak English is different too. The Vietnamese are easy to recognize. Some Vietnamese look like Chinese cause their forefather have Chinese blood, but they are totally different from Korean and Japanese. That is it.

  • english subtitles please. these peps are very hard to understand.

  • Saigon changing too fast but not the people who live there only the business around the world so the government , poor people now can't live and spend time in Saigon anymore they moved a little further out because of what they spending very day , food and things for their living , even me when i come back there everything is expensive then in New York where i live that is too much , only in Saigon .

  • Hey guys. Nice video. Is it maybe possible to talk to David?

  • my 1st time in saigon was in 1993.

since that time i visited vietnam 3 times again.

    i wont miss no time...

  • i left Saigon 21 years ago and dying to come back for a visit, i was raise on top of Icescream Bac dang place at the corner of Pasteur and Le Loi across from Casino Saigon Cinema for those of you familiar of Saigon.

I cried everytimes i see a video like this one.

Thanks again Planted for posting this.

  • Freaking communists man, it's a same that those commie gooks had to take over. Ho chi minh city, is still Saigon to me, I dont give a shit if they renamed it after that a son of a bitch.

  • huh, up to you but it is still Ho Chi Minh city, namely Saigon. What is your problem?

  • I feel sorry for those poor gook bastards that have live under communist rule in a city named after a scumbag.

  • feel sorry for yourself you dipshit. Saigon is the best place to be.

  • Great video. I miss it so much. special thanks to planeted to post this awesome video showing where I came from

  • looks a great place to visit, i better start saving.

  • if compared to the morning , the air at night is fresh hehehe

  • Fresh air of the night my ass... LOL

  • riding at night in the streets of saigon is very relaxing and refreshing. no need to always go into a coffee shop nor night clubs, just riding along the streets is quite nice.

  • Yo Dragonfly. You mean riding the streets on your own scooter? I have a Viet wife and will move to Vietnam in a few years time. Is getting a scooter permit difficult. My wife says not but she always underplays things. Personally the scooter traffic frightens me but I want a permit and to have one of my own to get around on

  • Hi Aoenflux67

The safest way is to have your own permit. I ride without one and got caught once when i ride across the unbroken line. I paid the policeman $100,000 dong and pretended i was a local by what i wore. However it is easy for you to get a permit. But you would not need one, because for some reason, the police here wont charge caucasians for traffic infringements.

Dont be frightened, just do it! Ride slowly first, then you'd be fine.

  • Thanks Dragonfly. My wifes town of Bac Giang in the North is where I would apply for a permit. Its 8000 people and not too busy. I tend to like to do things by the book lol....when in strange lands so as to not risk problem but if I got impatient waiting for testing time...I would certainly take the bike out for a non permit ride. Once I master Bac Giang I would take my scooter to Nha Trang and then HCM as those are the three places we hang out in due to family being there.

  • Nice to hear Aeonflux67!

Its going to be a very long ride for you to get to Nha Trang from Bac Giang, but im sure you will enjoy it. Just be careful of the trucks and buses, some are speedy drivers and wont stop at nothing.... thats why there are many accidents everyday.

However good luck and hope you and your wife have a safe and enjoyable journey.

  • Wife wont let me travel long distance between centres...just around town and major cities. So I'd have to pay for the scooter to travel in the trains cargo section. I suggested we should do a round Vietnam by scooter routine when I saw foreigners doing it once and she canned it. She is paranoid about her nations bad truck, bus and car drivers. I sort of fancy myself as an adventurer. I can rough it any place and any weather. A few bugs on the road included. Talk her around one day.

  • damn! thats really well made!! very well made. i lived there for two years as an american expat.

  • thanks for the compliment!

you could have been the "expat" on the clip then - 2 years in HCMC

    farewell

    planete.d

  • Saigon is the old name. It has been renamed Ho Chi Minh city (HCMC) from 1976 after Vietnam totally became independent

  • Ho chi Minh city??? What's that? Is it a square or a circle? Saigon is still Saigon.

It has a beautiful name. Ho chi minh city is Hanoi

  • bookritenow is right. Sai Gon is the old name which has been changed to Ho Chi Minh City when the country was lost to communism. However, the name Sai Gon is still familiar and used by many people.

  • I|m also missing it so muuuch!!!!!!

  • Vietnam Vietnam Vietnam Vietnam

  • Vietnam.

  • Nostalgia .. :(

    I miss Saigon like hell

  • love how they keep calling it saigon...i heard you don't say that name to northerners as they get really insulted but to the Ho Chi Minh City city people, it's always Saigon.

  • It is NOT true that the name Saigon is somehow not permitted in Vietnam. Both names, Saigon or Ho Chi MInh City, are used freely and widely in Vietnam. In fact, the official Communist Party newspaper in the city is called Saigon Giai Phóng, or Liberated Saigon. Numerous agencies and businesses bear the name of Saigon too.

  • and "Saigon Times" too :-)

  • No one care which name is use. The things you heard is not true.

  • no, there is no such thing. You'd better check on your own rather than sitting there and listen to whatever they say about VN

  • ........VIDEO NAY ve^` S..GON hay ghe .goc may quay dep , mà video day y nghia nua

  • Nice video.
