what guage wire do you reccomend? 18, 20, 22, 24, 26? or can you use any? ( this is important to me) I own this gizmo but hadn't figured out how to use thank you thank you!!
Personally, I would work with 20 - 22 gauge wire when working with this tool. Too thick and you might damage the tool, while too thin a gauge might be too thin to hold it's shape. You can also temper your jump rings with a chasing hammer and dapping block to harden the jump rings after shaping.
i am ordering 20 and 22 gauge wire and i notice there are different types besides the gauge sizes..dead soft, half hard and full hard..im guessing it isnt dead soft....is full hard better or half hard is ok? the last thing i would want is for my work to bend and fall apart
OR get a steel bar (from tractor supply or some other store that sells them), some vice grips, and some wire, and hold the wire on the bar with the vice grips, and use the vice grips as a handle to spin the bar around, using your hand to make sure that the wire stays tight. a pair of vice grips and a steel bar are probably cheaper than this tool, and they definitely have more uses.
A Jump ring is a finding that is used to connect one portion of your jewelry to the next. For example: You have a length of chain that you want to make into a necklace, but you also want to hang a charm from the chain. You would use a jump ring to connect the charm to the chain.
I'm a guy, and i use jump rings to make chainmail. :) takes a long time, but it's a rewarding hobby, meaning you can sell a chainmail suit that took a month to make, and about $30 worth of wire and make $100-300 (depending on how well made it is). like I said, rewarding, you need to be patient and try smaller stuff before attempting the suit. I'm getting ready to start my first one, if I can just find my 1/2 inch mandrel. WTF(meaning where the fart) is it?

I have a question regarding chasing hammers. What is the difference between a chasing hammer and a claw or ball-peen, etc. hammer?

a jump ring is a ring of wire...a link.
Also, I use a saw to make mine, because the snips crimp the ends.
