  • I bet they guy never changed the fuel filter and air filter so he put a tuner on it to improve performance and it started runnin realy bad and through a rod

  • Looks like they were digging hard to void the warranty. Why was the fuel filter dirty, because it foamed? Diesel foams... "I can see chunks on the bottom" don't ya think that could have come after you opened the lid? And a programmer will melt a piston before it puts a rod through the block.

  • looks like the cummins engine just cant hold in all it's nuts and bolts.... what the hell does a dirty air filter and fuel filter hae to do with that????? nothing.!

  • Comment removed

  • what the hell was the person doing

  • Total misdiagnosis. Clowns are looking for something to void the warranty.

  • Too many RPMs is the ONLY thing that caused that. Not a dirty air or fuel filter.

  • with the low mileage and abuse i can only speculate that it wasnt broken in correctly i wouldnt plug a tuner into a diesel for at least 50K miles and i sure as hell wouldnt beat on it its a truck ..... not a racecar

  • There is no way a clogged air filter or a clogged fuel filter would do that to an engine. I'd say either low oil/ no oil. Or bad oil, but most likely over revving the engine. And a turbo would never blow because of a clogged air filter. Injectors possible if the fuel filter was clogged. But the injectors will seize up, not go through the engine.

  • Don't ever take your truck to these clowns.

  • where is the programmer and what air filter is any cleaner than that driving down a dirt road and the fuel filter was not that dirty if it was the how did he get it to over rev the truck only has 35000 miles this mechanic is looking very had to find something to void warranty wish we knew what dealer it is obviously one to avoid and we could post and dealer blog how many diesel mechanics would agree with this diagnoses non that i know all those symptoms point to low not grenading a motor

  • @bbrown0003 yea, the only way you're going to throw a rod threw the cast iron blocks of a cummins is with a shit load of RPM's. You're going to blow a turbo with a dirty air filter before the engine blows, and you're going to tear up injectors or a pump before you blow the engine due to a dirty fuel filter.

  • threw a rod right threw that block

  • So the owner of this truck only knows how to put it in gear and tear things up right???

  • I dont think dirty air filter and fuel filter and programmer is enough to do that. In less the programmer let it turn like 5 grand. This is some serious shit.

  • this is whhy u do not over rev a diesel i dont care who made it over rev it too many times and boom!

  • looks more like it ran outa control on oil to me....

  • i will never take my truck to this shop. they will post videos of my abused shit without permission

  • was that a piston rode at around 1:15ish? or am i mistaken?

  • shitty engine, poor quality steel and cheap oil

  • @MrGPAS21 shitty engine eh? yep you can tell this guys a phuckin' cock gobbler.

  • i would do the same thing to my truck if i had to drive a dodge.

  • it just goes to show, it doesnt matter how many miles are on the vehicle, its how many miles are left.

and ^^^ THATS what you get when you buy a dodge. A great big piece of useless broken shit... all you flaming dodge fanboys can comment on that one. because none of you can resist it.

  • @bigorangetrucker Has nothing to do with Dodge Ford Chevy hell even Toyota. If you don't take care of stuff it goes to hell. I've had Fords, Chevy and Dodges. With proper maintenance they all will give you many trouble free miles. The owner of this truck I guess you have more money than brains!

  • looks like dodge mechanics trying to get out of a warrenty

  • is it normal to have a small amount of dirt that you can see in the bottom of the fuel filter canister when you change your fuel filter?

  • Comment removed

  • Shut the fuck up and learn to spell you faggot.

  • dirty fuel and air filter wont make engine explode like this.

if anything itll make it less likely to go bang as it will hold the power back.

It must all be down to the tuner or a faulty rod bolt, always best to get F1 spec jobs.

  • i wonder if it did not throw a wrist pin bind of and then throw a piston through the side of the block or this is a common rail maybe something whent wrong and it prefired at high rpm what ever it was a cloged air filter does not do that

  • ive seen alot worse filters, looks more like

someone didnt torque the rod caps from

the factory these cummins will hold up to

alot more than that,my uncle cleaned used motor oil with a centrifuge and burned it for a year just got tired of plugging injectors and buying new ones

for petes sake they are back hoe motors,

dont even think all heavy eq is properly maintained, lol

  • rich dumbasses think thay can abuse an amazing machine like this its just sad save what you can and put it out of its misery second learn how to drive and third when you buy any vehicle its an investment take care of it

  • That air filter looked clean to me.

  • no doubt a little dust woopie that wouldnt make a diffrence and my cummins proves it look at its air filter its worse than that but fine, and real truck guys dont wear gloves

  • @buellm21200 not for a diesel it's not! don't forget that the turbo is sucking in all that shit coming thru the filter. to a n/a engine its not so bad but to a diesel it's a BIG deal.

  • What the fuuuuck?!?!?!

    Rich people...

    Geez

  • that sucks

  • ouch

  • that was a rod poking through the block was it not?

  • But chevy has a sorry as front end,and the allison tranny only comes in the bigger trucks

  • cummins* theres no G at the end. and yes a cummins in a chevy would have nice looks and nice power.

  • Maybe they will sell me those tires for cheap

  • i was also gonna say is if this guy was driving the shit out of it with a chip im surprised the tranny held up that long...then i seen it was a standard.....glad i got a standard

  • that is exactly why im afraid to chip my dodge.... i have a lead foot and my engine will probably look like that one

  • Dodge trucks are the most durable trucks you can buy.

  • Naww chevy or ford. They are american built unlike dodge. Made in Mexico

  • best engine worst truck... face it bud

  • Best engine BEST truck

  • And I own a 2002 Ford F250, a 2005 F250 and a 2007 F3500 that have fuckin problems already dumbass, out of all of them Dodges keep up the best.

  • i wouldnt say worst truck, they arnt shitboxes there powerhouses that are setup for hauling and work.they just rot out too quickley.

  • Not even 35k miles!!! Obviously didn't follow proper break-in procedures, jackass! And now he's probably badmouthing Dodge like it's their fault.

  • people beat the bloody fuck out of dodges then bitch about how they cant hold up like their babied fords or chevies.

  • the cummins engine does not have a break-in period, they are ready to work from the factory

  • High EGT = Melted pistons?

  • So let me get this straight... a dirty fuel filter, a slightly dirty air filter, and a programmer caused a rod to go through the side of the block? The filters had npothing to do with it...

  • Look at the first dodge diesel abuse video. That air filter was horrible and probably not filtering.

  • What happens when you lean out the AFR's on a gasoline engine? it starts to detonate espeically on a turbo engine. What happens when you lean out a diesel engine and cause the boost pressure to spike because of a dirty air filter? you get "nailing" or detonation along with very high boost spikes because of the dirty filter.

  • Cervan does not know what he is talking about. you can't "lean" out a diesel. a bad wastegate and/or extra fuel (programmer, injectors, boost fooler, etc.) is what will make boost pressure go above stock. that doesn't cause "detonation". Advanced timing is what ups cylinder pressures and puts a lot of pressure on the headgasket (and rods above 1000hp). dirty air filter = lower boost pressure, black smoke, and poor spool up.

  • that makes me wanna cry...sum fucker does this to the truck of my dreams

  • Looks like the filters are filtering like they should. That has nothing to do with the idiot owner, who probably had a programer and drives like an asshole. Void his warranty!!!

  • no the problem is not cummins the problem is the person who owns it dosent know how to take care of it so fuck ford.(countrykid)

  • this may be a dumb question.....but why are you cleaning out that fuel filter?......

why not just put a new one in?.........

  • Scrap it. New trucks arent built as good as old ones.

  • 3 words

    " lack of maintenance"

  • must of been hauling alot of Livestock :) use em and abuse em

  • Can someone tell me what the hell a dirty air filter or a dirty fuel filter had to do with a rod sticking out of the block???? Now I can see the programmer possibly causing it but maybe they were just showing the overall lack of maint.

  • the dirty fuel filter probably was restricting the fuel flow. the dirty stock air filter wan't letting nearly enough air to the motor. and the iditot driving probably just put the chip all the way up. to run a chip you need a high flow intake and aftermarket exhaust. preferably with no cat or dpf and no muffler if you like the noise. that truck probably hasn't seen an oil change either.

  • The dirty fuel filter would have been a loss of power no matter what level the programmer was on. There is no danger of a lean condition on a diesel like on gasoline engines. I bet they oversped the engine somehow and were using this video as a warranty validation

  • that guy got boned really hard on that.... stupid costs money lol

  • haha bye bye transfer case!

  • i cant see how any body can be that hard on a truck

  • This is a case of the aftermarket programmer delivering excess fuel pressure causing one or more injector tips to fail, thus completely filling the crankcase with diesel in the process. This is also what causes the thrown rods in these cases. It also means, bye bye warranty!

  • it's not so much the programmer. trucks will last even longer with it tuned over stock but the driver can't be a dumbass. much like alot of the dodge owners who beat on them w/ over 800 torque and wonder why there trans. or anything breaks. drive it like a man and even the ford 6.0 will last awhile

  • It's ETIRELY the programmer! The lack of maintenence sure didn't help either! What a shame.

EVERYTHING tuned to produce more power will suffer in reliability.

  • @wweenh drive it right and even a chevy with a 6.2 will last

  • thats exactly what programmers get ya run em stock they'll last forever

lol jk jk i actually love the cummins engine right next with the powerstroke it just comes down who is drivin

  • it`s really hard to say why the rod broke there are alot of things that can cause this, such as over winding (before you say they are governed my 03 WILL go past 3400 rpms easy) also over winding the engine going down hill would cause it. but this video makes you think is the extra power from power add on`s worth it.....HELL YEAH they are

  • All I can say is WOW FUCKIN WOW! LOL

  • must have been a 6.7

  • thats what i want to know (dodgeram591) because ive seen my uncle burn used motor oil mixed 50/50 with diesel in his 02 5.9 and beat the crap out of it,and it keeps on tickin,i own an 06' 5.9 with 36000 on it and LOVE it.....i also wonder

if this dude pissed someone off,and got something in the fuel tank!

  • nope thats a 5.9

  • Nothing a little JB Weld and Duct tape can't fix!

  • I have a 2006 dodge cummins my truck dynoed 900.48hp at the schied diesel extravaganza my truck has stock rods .if that truck in this video just had a programer and some dirty fuel there is no reason for 2 rods to be hanging out the side of the block i think the chrysler guys who made this video need to go back to school.

  • Comment removed

  • what the fuck did this owner do to this truck

  • I hate tosay it, but you fucktards that keep making stupid ass comments referring to this video, are just as dumb as the driver of that truck....He was doing that as a warrantee video, to show you dumbasses what the combo of a plugger fuel and air filter can cause.. not THAT IT WILL DO THAT!!

  • i agree people on youtube make dum comments, as for the rod sticking outta the block i would think the truck was WAY overdue for an oil change. we have never thrown a rod on our farm because we take care of things and change the oil...

  • People the guy video taping isnt stupid for god sakes he made the video to show that some people in this world drive the dog crap outta of there trucks and it happend to throw a rod theres plenty of parts on that cummins that can be reused such as the filter they cleaned i mean come on common sense needs to kick in sometimes at least i mean basically the blocks trash and the rods bad and the inside is probably junk form the metal shavings from this blowup but external parts are still fair

  • as well as other shit. a dirty air filter, plus a dirty fuel filter plus a programmer can throw an engine out of wack enough to cause the problem shown here.. Some of you people are a joke when it comes to your comments.

  • Hmmm, seems everyone except the actual mechanic is an expert on you tube... Most of these comments on here are not well thought out, and show the persons lack of knowledge.. I have worked on truck engines in my early years at Uhaul, to Diesel locomotives on the railroad, and anything is possible in having a rod shoved through a block. The commenters werent there working on the actual truck. I have seen the oddest and dummbest shit shove a rod through the side of a v-16 diesel locomotive.

  • well there's your problem there is a rod sticking out of the block!

  • Every mechanic that works at a Dodge dealership that works on a cummins Knows absolutly NOTHING! Dirty air filter and fuel filter puts a hole in the side of your block? You better go back and get some more training!

  • Trying to say the fuel and air filter caused the problem shows their lack of knowledge.. I also have taken my 06 to over 4k many times at over 1,000 rwhp in a daily driver (131 mph quarter). Nothing like this happened. There can always be a flaw in an engine..

  • This video proves nothing, except the lack of intelligence of the people who took this video.

  • Dirty air and fuel filter = rod through the block? Really? My 06 diff cover looks worse than that and my truck is well cared for. Guess I'll get my local dealer to warranty the cover now. Thanks.

  • can i have the front and rear axle?

  • how is it that people can afford to RUN THE SHIT!!! out of cars before 35000 miles and afford it, but on the other had I have to buy vehicles that have well over 100k on them and NEVER have engine failure?!?!?!?

  • The injectors need checking. 3rd gen sometines break injectors, dump fuel into the cylinders which thins the oil then in seconds wipe the bearings/ruin the crank/start throwing parts out of the crankcase.

  • its a fuckin truck

ur gunna break somethin sometime if you use it and use it hard

  • There's a difference between use and abuse, dumbass.

  • i got a cummins that is turned up to around 50 hp the only thing i have had happen with motor is injector body's breaking but that is common on the common rails even stock one do it. i take care of my truck keep up on matinace so that might be what saves me.

  • This is a simple case of why not to buy a DODGE. A cummins will out-tow a FORD..right up until it immediately falls apart.

  • fule and air filter and chip had nothing to do with the rod comeing thorw it its the dumb ass behing the wheel

  • Too many questions left out.

Where's the engine oil dipstick level shot?

How about the rear differential oil level?

Fuel & air filter dirt won't kick the rods out.

These aren't yer typical gassers, these engines are governed...will not overspeed unless you downshift the transmission at a very high rate of speed.

  • yea dude iw as gonna ask the same tihng i dont really make sense

  • its a dam truck

    its made 2 work,pull,etc

stuff breaks every now and then,,thats just part of it

  • Yeah but a rod out the side of the engine is not a normal "part of it"

  • Ya a thrown rod is NOT normal maintenance. Cummins is a good motor though, but I am a ford fan all the way

  • So you guys taking these videos of the vehicles are you mechanics or what. Cause I being the owner of a dodge diesel really wouldnt appreciate you documenting this on video showing license plates and all and especially posting it on youtube. Im surprised you havent received some kind of law suit for it... I'd watch out if I was you.

  • you got that right buddy

if i saw my truck on here withoug my permission id be pissed

but i wouldnt neglect my truck like this

  • stnnr001 maybe its just me but i didnt see any number plates shown in the video. If they did show a plate i wouldnt be happy if i was the owner.

  • That obviously has nothing to do with a dirty fuel fulter or air filter. That filter wasn't even that dirty. Plus, those were the factory filters anyway so you can't blame it on that you retards! I hate dealerships. They should be called stealerships. Thats why I do my own work on my Cummins. The morons at the dealer are too dumb to trust with it.

  • Ooooof.

  • wow. so what what was the outcome of this?

  • theres a rod coming out of the side of the engine? lol

  • the owner don't need a truck like that he needs a ford poor poor dodge

  • yup!

  • It'll take more than just some RPM's to get that kind of damage. Look around there's a ton of trucks out there turning 4,000 RPM mine included out of these engines with no problems. I know of several turning 5,000 on stock bottom ends.

  • that air filter was not the cause of "boom",or the nasty fuel..there was a high RPM event there somewhere.

  • Is this always a frequent case of vehicle abuse and having to deal with an Irate Customer? Was this caused by engine overspeed?

  • I am a cummins tech and there is only one was to break a rod on a cummins, and thats putting the go pedal to the floor in neutral and park, I have seen one before and he was mad because we didn't replace his engine because he had a chip on the truck and took the turbo out. That is one poor truck.

  • Your not to bright are you? when they run our trucks though emissions they have you do a snap throttle and hold it to the floor for 10 seconds multiple times. Yes a chip can cause higher cylinder pressures, but this is a cummins not a Ford. It looks like a bearing failed and the idiot kept running it hard till it blew.

  • So bad fuel or something? Rods dont fail at 35k.

  • how does that happen?? Im pretty stupid about this stuff. But i have an 03 2500 with 118,000 miles with a goose neck that has been off road pulled trailers..ect..looks ten times better than that. May not know much about it but i take care of it....Not your usual vid. No boxes of beer in the bed.haha

  • I 100% agree with you. A truck that new with undercarraige that looks like that is a tattle tale on the abuse it's seen.

  • DANG that poor truck, is the owner just a moron or what

  • i know this might be a stupid question but from what i saw was the starter ripped out or was that a piston rod?

  • the piston shot out the side of the block and broke the starter

  • the piston shot out the side of the block and broke the starter
