Ok, global warming would have happened with or without us. It happened before because of all the volcanic activity along time ago. The Earth does a wonderful thing each time the world gets to this point. It cools down and causes an Ice age which cools down the planet and cleans our atmosphere resetting the earth. Global Warming IS NOT CAUSED BY HUMANS. Its a pattern and we are 2000 years late on the next ice age. Think about it.

I'm not an expert, but judging from studies I have read, we have already lost our shiny high-tech sustainable future. We are near the end, but demand (and supply) are still increasing exponentially. As obvious as it is that we need to change urgently, the parts of our society that are most important have not even begun to consider that option.
We're already past the critical point. The question now is, are we going to be like crippled undeveloped countries or like post-apocalyptic movies?

Population is one of the tricky issues. Using normal methods we have already far surpassed the point of sustainable replenishment. The only option available to us is using post-normal methods (of course). But one way or another, we just aren't, as a species, socially, psychologically or biologically wired to support population stagnation or loss.

I believe that the market will solve future energy problems as they arise. I feel that high energy costs today have more to do with greed and insider politics than scarcity of resources. I'm not an expert, but judging from studies I have read, we have already lost our shiny high-tech sustainable future. We are near the end, but demand (and supply) are still increasing exponentially. As obvious as it is that we need to change urgently, the parts of our society that are most important have not even begun to consider that option.
We're already past the critical point. The question now is, are we going to be like crippled undeveloped countries or like post-apocalyptic movies?

Allow me to say that one of the main reasons we got into this chaos and tragic situation is because of our monetary system based on debt. This is the reason why our systems have to continously grow! Because every time someone takes a loan, new money is created and it must be paid back with interest! In a hundred years we will probably be running on Thorium (8000 years supply) and then fusion. When the last barrel of oil is used no one will even notice. Remember when the last barrel of indispensable whale oil was used? No? No one else remembers either.

Population is one of the tricky issues. Using normal methods we have already far surpassed the point of sustainable replenishment. The only option available to us is using post-normal methods (of course). But one way or another, we just aren't, as a species, socially, psychologically or biologically wired to support population stagnation or loss.
These are tough problems, and we've been lacking in terms of solutions for far too long.

I believe that the market will solve future energy problems as they arise. I feel that high energy costs today have more to do with greed and insider politics than scarcity of resources. People always want to yell that the sky is falling. What if someone wrote an article 200 years ago about the world being 10 feet deep in horse poop if we don't change our ways. Technology was the answer then, and it is today. The only real problem is overpopulation, the best solution is education of women.
