Played this movie in junior high one day near the end of the year in 8th grade. Me and my friends couldn't stop laughing at this scene, it's so pointless XD
I'v got the DVD I know what this movie is about & I get it, I understand his role in the movie perfectly and the reason I said he reminded me of George Bush is because I can relly picture George W Bush rideing the Bomb it's the sort of thing he would do.
Fair enough not being a 29, but there's one big detail I see. Only four throttles. Also, I was only in a 52 flight deck once for my avionics tech school, but I remember their being a lot more instruments.
Regards to the throttles it looks like 4,but infact they are 2 throttles in a group of 4,as remember the B52 has 8 engines.Another thing, have you also seen the film "The life and death of Peter Sellers"?.In the movie, there is a scene where they depict the making of Dr Strangelove, especially the scenes where the bomb doors are in play. You will see that the plane is a full sized mock up of a B52.
The B-52 stores it's forward and aft landing gear in bays that are larger than the spaces which held the actual bombs for most bombers during WW-2. Then you need to see the train car sized bomb bays carved into the airplane by the Boeing engineers.
The plane is simply totally awesome in every respect, too bad it's obsolete now that there is no enemy!
Was Boeing contacted before the film was ever released?.With so many insights into the workings of the B52,I am amazed that all was clearly shown without hinderance as to technical workings of the weapon systems and tactics in general, which at the time were both classified to a great extent.During the B52 "Chrome dome" missions,B52 jets were stationed in the air both day and night above the North Pole, ready to attack Russia. If the Russians had seen the film, the element of surprise would be lost.
No, the flight deck is from what looks like a B29. The rest was pieced together from only one released photo from inside a 52 and imagination. However it was close enough to the real 52 to warrant an Air Force investigation.
Dear adrianspeeder.I have to differ respectfully from your observations. The flightdeck is NOT from the B29 or the latter B50;the main reason being that the 29 had a glazed nose section that housed the 2 pilots side by side with the bomb aiming devices immediately in front of them.If you remember,in the movie when they show the pilots looking foreward, there is no glazed nose section, just a standard instrument panel, that is that of the 52 Stratofortress. Also all the crew were seated in 52 config.
Have you seen a movie called "By Dawns Early Light",starring Powers Boothe?.Compare the cockpit configuration of the B52 in that film with that in Dr Strangelove. You will see that both are the same, and this will prove my view that the one in Strangelove is a B52 and NOT the B29!
You have to admit the aircraft interior set looked pretty real, though! Especially considering it was mostly the production designer's imagination, since such detailed images of the B-52's instrumentation and controls would have been classified at that time.

The Film is pretty much about all the idiots getting their hands on Nuclear weapons and planning a nuclear holocost and everyone trying to stop them.
Major Kong (The Guy in the cowboy hat) is the General that is planning this nuclear war.
