A helmet increases the circumference of the diameter of your head and therefor increases the lever on which it will rotate during impact by 30%.

has anyone every watched AMA races when they crash they are doing around 120 to 160mph and walk away from it. if they did not have their PPE gear im pretty sure they all would be 6ft under.
This guy's a hardcore fool. And it seems to me that the MSF says you need to wear a helmet. I'm comfortable as hell riding my cruiser and don't wear all the PPE unless I have to, but I almost always wear my golves, good boots, long pants and helmet. Sometimes I don't wear the helmet for quick >1 mile trips, but that's a bad habit.
As far as the effectiveness of the helmet, in case of a crash, I'd much rather have my helmet skidding on the pavement than my head.
Seems to me that the DOT safety rating is clearly stated...Basicly Low speed crashes (under 25mph) is what a helmet is good for...Very few riders live after having a high speed impact helmet or not. While i do fully agree we need a major reform on driver education, who gets a license, and what people can't do while driving to make the roads safer, he's beyond wrong about helmets snapping necks and imparing vision. Google the "Hurt Report" to see an extensive study showing Bike helmets don't impair vision, hearing, or cause snapped necks.
Also remember, it wasn't the helmet's weight that killed dale earnhardt. It was g force from going 180mph to almost a sudden stop that did it. Even if he had no lid the force was still enough to break his neck which is why they use the hahns device now. Cagers get bad neck injuries all the time in accidents and they don't wear lids and are nowhere close to going 180mph either.

I wonder what the odds of surviving a wreck at 50 mph are without a helmet compared to with a helmet... Maybe we should be happy these guys don't wear helmets, one less focktard in the world if they ever do go down... that might be too cynical of me though:)

The helmet can "only" stand an impact of 14 mph, what can your unprotected skull take?
This guys entire argument is about everything but helmets.

Do not beleve the 14mph test and "your going to snap your neck thing,,WHAT THE HELL???!! Ive been racing bikes for 30 years and have walked away from a few 114+mph crashes with badly scraped and even cracked hemets!! If I was not wearing my helmet someone would be changing my diper and wipeing the drool off my face!!I Hope like hell no kids see this idot and get the idea helmets do not help in a traffic accident!CAN'T BELEVE CH.19 ACTION NEWS PLAYED THIS!!

While i do fully agree we need a major reform on driver education, who gets a license, and what people can't do while driving to make the roads safer, he's beyond wrong about helmets snapping necks and imparing vision. Google the "Hurt Report" to see an extensive study showing Bike helmets don't impair vision, hearing, or cause snapped necks.

Also remember, it wasn't the helmet's weight that killed dale earnhardt. It was g force from going 180mph to almost a sudden stop that did it. Even if he had no lid the force was still enough to break his neck which is why they use the hahns device now. Cagers get bad neck injuries all the time in accidents and they don't wear lids and are nowhere close to going 180mph either.

Yeah he seems like a well educated expert on the subject. He must work in a trauma center as a neuro surgeon or as a paramedic. Bike riders have to stop whining about cagers and take more steps to protect themselves. Suck it up!! We choose to ride what we ride so be a man and drive defensively and wear a helmet.

You can brake you arm, leg, foot, hand, collarbone, no problem "it heals" You hit your head at speed without a helmet,,,,, your getting coloring books for Christmas!! Or worse ending up like this guy!! I do however agree about the phone, eating,, believe it or not I even saw a guy shaving just a few weeks ago!!! Also very Loud stereo systems,, loud exhaust, black tinted side windows! The cops seem to let a lot of this go!!!!!!!
