I love Bergtatt, it's the best album ever done. But Ulver, why did you turn into a boring band? You had the magic metal. Trolsk sort metal. I wish more people would play trolsk sort metal, magical metal like Ulver on their debute.
I prefer the similar section from 4:57 onwards. Garm’s vocals sound so incredible when he sings Hun falder i sovn pa moseseng. The style, the reverb on it was all copied for some of the songs on Enslaved’s Mardraum album.
I absolutely adore Ulver. I love their new music too. But this remains my most all–time favourite song by them: the vocals, the Darkthrone–like riffs created anew with that incredible bass… Everything.
Superb album. A great place to ease into the Black Metal sub-genre. Check out my video review, if you like. Personally, my favorite track is #3 Capitel III: Graablick blev hun vaer.
Mikael Akerfeldt prolly listened to this everyday. this reminds me of a early opeth. Ulver hense created what Opeth prolly is to this day. The best metal band in the world. so what does that Make Ulver. Fucking Legendary !
@3MFALL3 Hehe, I love Ulver also =) But I cannot yet learn norwegian. My school doesn't a teacher for it so I need to go to another school when I have graduated from this one. Ulver is awesome, greetings from Finland.
@Welshu XD i'm happy.... i love finland...( jeg elsker finland) i would like learn finnish ... but for me is difficult T.T ... i like scandinavia :) i learn norwegian in private lessons ... greetings from italy ....
this song paints a more compelling vision of reality than science. this song wipes away the veil of modernity. there is nothing but this song. it is all that matters. i am fucking serious
@BlightedJosh They were people anticipating your stupid comment and being so repulsed that they had to dislike the whole video just because of your comment.
@BlightedJosh how original. i see idiots like you in almost every video saying stupid shit like "the five people who voted down like the jonas brothers." yeah, we get it. we're so cool and kvlt cause we dont listen to mainstream music. get original, retard.
Of course, if you're a Norwegian, the Swedish words are archaisms. The funny thing is that both are right, since people from Skåne speak more like Danes, and Nynorsk is more popular in the north. Bokmål is just a version of danish in a sense, but actually just a written form, not spoken usually, like Finnish has the kirjakieli (literally booktongue), and spoken form which varies almost as much as Norwegian and Danish. Estonian is separated by millenia, so Finns don't understand it all.
Garm without doubt is one of the best performer..I mean he was in front of Arcturus and Aspera was the best album even though with Borknagar left the great The Olden Domain the high performance and his spirit even clean vocals as black has left an unprecedented feeling over the metal ...Hail Ulver!! Hail the Wolves!!
Actually Garm sang his best cleans here (literally Mountaintaken, means Spellbound) and on Kveldsanger (Night Songs). He was young and had that innocent voice. But his black metal voice is also great, so it wasn't wasted on one of the greatest metal albums of all time. They used to say they play trolsk sort metal, meaning magical metal.
but i must say, this is really one of the few bands that, it kind of shames me when they sing black metal, not cuz they suck but because what an awesome voice he has when singing clean vocals. almost a shame to have him sing the black metal style,
but either way Ulver always delivers pure emotion, hails
@Lokard93 The image is from the inner booklet of the 'Bergtatt' CD. Ulver took some pretty wicked band photos back then. You should see the ones for 'Nattens Madrigal'.
Remember people, on the coming months of September to December, there were 2 volcanoes that would erupt in the US, the name of these volcanoes have something to do with faith. This eruption is a trumpet blast from God. Repent now people! Avoid pornography, smoking, cursing, fornication, adultery, immorality, occultism etc. Be holy; do not turn to church for salvation, turn to Christ
Ulver;s music at this stage was incredible. This is the best black metal album ever made and it doesn't even have to touch down upon all screamed vocals, fuzzy quality or satanism. (Not to say those are bad things but to be able to make a black metal album so good and not have it follow all the black metal styles is amazing) And the songs are really full of emotion and energy, especially if you find the english translations.
I think that getting to understand the original lyrics in Norwegian was much more rewarding than just looking up a translation on the net. Back when this was released all I had was a Finnish-Norwegian dictionary and passing skill at Swedish (mandatory language subject in Finland). Now I have a passing skill at Norwegian, turn all the Swedish a's to e's at the end of words, and use archaisms. Anyway, they made it harder on Nattens Madrigal. The first release didn't even name the songs.
@D0p3Throne I have to disagree with that. I almost never find black metal with political commentary or modern event satire in it.
Hating religion, maybe, but not everything.
Eh, to each his own I guess. There're black metal bands out there like Hok-Key that sing about winter sports, so I'm sure there're black metal bands that're about hating everything too. :)
truly inspired and inspiring... really great music, I'd also wish they had done one or two more albums of this stuff before shifting to doing electronic music... totally underrated.
lol im 14 and i got into Ulver a couple of months ago and im seeing them in london in october. just buy some of their old records off amazon then u can still appreciate it

It's from the album from which the song is taken, "Bergtatt - Et Eeventyr i 5 Capitler". I remember that the first time I opened that jewel box I fuckedly loved this picture ;-)
