@wolfgar926 It sounds that we because he doesn't have it cranked. Plus, you're probably playing it through shit speakers at a low volume. The louder it is the thicker.
This amp sounds meaner than a Mesa on the OD1 Channel.Tis amp is the most versatile amp I have ever heard. It's got more balls and bite than a fucking lion with Testicular Cancer for fucks sake.My god...if I had the money.Jesus christ this fucking amp is so ungodly. It has more prescence and bit than any bedroom amp out there at matching volumes. The overtones are fucking beautiful. This is my double rainbow.
Something I thought should be added to this is in regard to the Resonance and Presence Master controls as all is said is that they add an 'extra bit of edge kind of thing'. Resonance controls the bass response of your CAB, and presence controls the Treble of your CAB, not the signal itself. This is mentioned in the manual but not in ANY review I read previous to buying this amp. This is an AMAZING feature that impacts your live sound tremendously. You can fit the amp to your cab essentially.
To further clarify, it modifies your cabinets response. Controlling instead of boosting the pres/res controls is what you need to do. Boosting either control too high will produce a muddy sound or a lot of shriek when soloing. I picked up on this when I boosted the Res control while riffing through some Metallica and noticed a distinct lack of clarity when palm muting that wasn't present when I played on a different cab in Guitar Center on the same guitar as I used at home, settings matched.
I have a TSL122, its a little unreliable and it blows fuses regularly, i'm looking to buy a more reliable one but equally as versatile - would you recommend the JVM series? i'd need the versatility of the TSL but i want to know its not going to blow a fuse mid solo.

this amp sounds horrible... omfg I hate the sound of Marshall... It sounds like you are deaf or something... so sterile and no highs... bland... boring sounds... sub-par clean... average high-gain at best...
The guy in the thumbnail looked like Kirk Hammett, I thought I'd just click on the video to see Kirk saying some insulting comments about daves amp lol!
BUY THIS RIGHT NOW!!!! GOT THE 50 COMBO, ALSO 2xVINTAGE 30 CAB!!! usa strat HSS plus, sennheiser e906, that's it.. LIKE THE STRAT,OR ANY KIND OF GUITAR THIS AMP LETS YOU FEEL THE SOUND YOU HAVE EVER WANTED
Ok, one of the completely right thing George has done here, if not the most correct thing when demoing a tube amp, is that he has the amp cranked up loud. master volume on 7, channel levels surely about 5. for a 100 w head, it is VERY LOUD and drives the power amp section effectively. ANY tube amp sounds better when cranked, it is a fact. And no other companies do this for their demos, and they certainly lose some "kudos". Marshall is rock, and volume. Period.
Hey, I would like to know if this head can create sounds like Chuck Schuldiner used to do with his Marshall Valvestate 8100? I would rather not buy a used Valvestate as they were discontinued a long time ago...Furthermore I don`t like to use any sort of boosting/distortion pedal. I hope somebody can help me;)
i played on this head in a store and its amazing.the od-2 channel on the red mode does definetly have alot of gain and i think its almost like schuldiner distortion.
@skullchick88 LOL! This is the first time I see someone asking if a tube amp can reproduce the sounds of a solid state amp. Usually it's the other way around =)
Anyway, if you just want to get that tone that he got from the Valvestate I would say... "get a Valvestate 8100". It's a good amp if you like that tone, there are loads of them on fleabay, they will last for a long time and you can get them for 100-200 $ as oppose to 2000$ for the JVM.
@jelledegitaarman having played both (including at high volumes), I bought a Vintage Modern. I found that the JVM had a ton of options, but there was only really one or two modes that I liked out of the entire amp. The Vintage Modern sounded loads more dynamic and obviously it had that vintage vibe to it that I couldn't dial in.
Cranked - the Vintage Modern beat out the JVM by a mile. The JVM didn't really improve tonally, but the vintage modern did. If you want tone over features - go VM
@rockfreak611 yeah i agree, the VM is way better than the JVM, the guys at the store tried to get me to buy the jvm, because i was playing some mastdon and they said the jvm was better suited to that style of music, but the VM sounded way better to my ears. so i went with the VM because it really didn't make sense to have 4 channels when i was only going to be using 1 anyway.
Me and my buddies started a band, I use a Gibson epiphone junior, along with a bandit 112 amp. I'm looking for a new set up to give me a nice punk rock to heavier sound, such as Green day, Sum 41, off spring, all american rejects, all time low, taking back sunday just stuff like that. We plan on doing gigs in the future here. If anyone can give me some tips as to what style amps I'd need, and make of guitar that'd be much appreciated!
@miketarno To be honest, I'm not super into amps and Marshalls, but any classic Marshall will work. Pedals for punk? None. Punk shall be simple. Just a stage tuner, TU-3 for example.
@miketarno A little advice: You shouldn't limit yourself to guitar and amp brands like GNRSlash94. Just use your ears, and do some research. If you're looking for an amp with a classic, mid-range crunch, go with Marshall. If you're looking for a scooped, modern metal sound(which I doubt) go with Mesa Boogie or ENGL. And if you're on a budget, check out Bugera, they model amplifiers of all kinds, but they lack the quality and durability(I hear)of other brands. Good luck finding the gear you want!
@ledzepfan02 no, you'd blow the output transformer, then the fuse and so on. All tube amplifier heads need to be connected to a speaker cabinet or a dummy load.
@PracticalGuitar the marshall jvm manual says: NEVER use your amp without a (speaker) load attached when the Standby Switch is ON.
Marshall recommends you always leave a (speaker) load attached to the unit.
you can silent record without a speaker load attached, but the standby switch must be set to standby/silent recording. also you have to find a way to connect the xlr to a 3.5mm socket.
@PracticalGuitar I think the best thing you can do if you want to record at home, is to buy a USB or Firewire soundcard. Some of them comes with a recording program, and most soundcards have both XLR and 6.3 mm sockets.
@NevadaMusicUK The Blackstar HT amps (HT5, HT20 and HT40) all have pretty decent Emulated Outputs. Could be because of cheap speakers, but the emulated outputs on those are at least equal to the speakers.
Could you please give advice on the quality on the emulated output?
im planing to get a new amp... but which one should i get to play hard rock heavymetal and 80's rock ...the jvm or a mesaboogie triple rect... can anyone tell me????
@calibre696 well in my opinion, id get this amp, ive been trying to save up for this amp for like 6 months, so far i only have 750 bucks, but once i get the money, it'll be worth it, ive played this amp at long and mcquade and its awesome! i play 80's and 70's stuff too and this is a perfect amp. but you should just goto a guitar store and try unch of amps and see what u like
Too many settings and modes. I run a JCM 800 on 10 and thats all the guts I need. IDC about how loud it is. If its too loud get in another line of work.
@MrPeterGroove YOu ever played live? On guitar sound not much bass is needed because when drums, bass guitar and keyboard starts to play and then sometimes even the 2nd guitar if you have too much bass and very little middle you just don`t cut trough mix... Every single PERFECT bedroom sound I made on my amp sounds like shit when played live... it is just lost...
does anyone know a similar type amp to the jvm i have a bugera v22 and a ibanez rg but not doing the van halen type distortion well at all almost no gain got a hot british pedal but too loose no tight distortion i want a jvm style sounding amp for under 700 dollars dont mind if used anyone know some amps
@hydralisk3313 leave.....leave right now, line 6 cannot possibly compare to this masterpiece of an amp. ive got a line 6 spider III 150 watt 2x12 and dont get me wrong, i used to love the thing, but once you get a taste of true valve power and sound you cant get enough of it. i've got one of these tings of order atm and im getting a full stack version like hes stood next to but my marshall cabs will be white, (in the style of Randy Rhoads) still got $3000AUD to pay off it yet :(
lol i was playing this at a music shop, and all of the settings on the od2 were all the way up, and i changed straight to the red, and i blew up my ears,
Damm that's the shit the sickest thing I have ever seen amazing and look at all those jvms stacked behind him! That's so hot! But when he plays with the band does he just improvising or did he learn the music by heart?
Hi...anyone knows if it is possible to select each mode of each channel with a midi pedalboard? ie... bank #1 clean green #2 clean orange #3 clean red?
and can you use this amp with the 1960av cab?

@hydralisk3313 leave.....leave right now, line 6 cannot possibly compare to this masterpiece of an amp. ive got a line 6 spider III 150 watt 2x12 and dont get me wrong, i used to love the thing, but once you get a taste of true valve power and sound you cant get enough of it. i've got one of these tings of order atm and im getting a full stack version like hes stood next to but my marshall cabs will be white, (in the style of Randy Rhoads) still got $3000AUD to pay off it yet :(

@liambarker12 oooh cuz i heard line 6 were ok but yea i know marshall is better :D
hydralisk3313 1 year ago
@liambarker12, line 6 simply cannot compare to a tube amp. Or even some solid state amps with one tube in them for that matter...

Just sold my JCM2000 and bought a Dual Rectifier. This amp is eerily similar to the Mesa.

what happens to an amp if you turn it on and its not conected to the cabinet??
davescarheart 2 years ago
It will cause a chain reaction, leading to the end of the world... then the end of the universe also, about 2 weeks later, roughly.

Ha. The Crunch sound he uses around the 2 minute mark has alot of feel from the band "Bad Company." (:

Nice demo. Very informative. Terrific Hard-rock tones. I don't think it sounds heavy enough for Metal.
