Technically the object with more mass would be attracted gravitationally to the floor (lots of mass) & the one with less mass would not be pulled to the same extent. However it can only be witnessed with much larger mass objects, BUT it should still technically apply but you would need a VERY long distance vacuum to see the difference & it wouldn't be much,
This experiment proves one other thing. No matter how much proof you give to some people, they will never accept fact. "The feather was made heavier, the hammer/ball was lighter." Even if that is true, in a vacuum, that wouldn't have mattered regardless, they still would fall at the same rate. BTW, what material would the feather be made out of to make it heavier than the ball/hammer?
@art14107 Actually... that's not true. You can survive for a couple of minutes or so in a total vacuum. Look up 'Damn Interesting - Outer Space Exposure' on Google for a nifty article explaining what would really happen - and has happened in the past.
im findin it hard to understand why heavy objects fall at the same speed as much lighter objects, im not stupid, i no gravity, and i no it happens, that it follows newtons law of motion, forces change the rate at which things fall and al that... its just difficult to get my head around... i don't NEED to no, id just feel like a better person if i did no... unless of course i've already explained it to myself and im just being a bit silly...again...
Excuse me for maybe being a bit weird in my terminolgy (im danish)
Its Gallileis 2nd law of falling objects. The objects are falling towards the ground, speed over time is v(t) = a*(t^2)+v_0, the velocity at t=0 must be 0 m/s, so it can be excluded, the acceleration, a, of the objects must be the same as the gravitational acceleration, g, (approx 9.80 m/(s^2)) so the velocity over time will remain the same. This doesnt always apply to real world, due to wind resitance etc.
i can see the feather is turning 5cm after it got droped, and it means the the heavier side of the feather turned down what means that the air resistance pushed the ligher part up, means there was still air inside the jar...
Also just to add this thought? I know it's crazy but....If NASA never went to the moon and did all that shit in a huge vacuum then it would have worked the same obviously looking at your experiment. So we really still have no proof that anyone has been to the moon. I mean a couple bootleg videos here a crappy video there I mean I work off 100% facts and there are none saying we actually have been there. I don't know though I'm partially insane though
@Redboykc420, the Apollo program shot 100s of hrs of video & film & 1000s of photos were taken. Pseudo scienctists love to attempt to find glitches & the illusive evidence of a hoax, but they've been debunked by PhDs over & over. 842 lbs. of rocks were brought back and independently tested. Spacecraft were independently tracked to the moon. UV spectrum photos were taken of stars from the moon, showing their location in the universe. Retroreflectors were left and detected. What more do you need?
@Redboykc420 The vacuum chamber is the biggest in the world. 40 years too late for the conspiracy nuts, mind you! nasa.gov/mission_pages/constellation/orion/vacuum_chamber.html
Or maybe they built this to FAKE the Constellation program? ;-P
ok? I answered my own question kinda. So just the density of the air creates resistance to the feather in an atmosphere. So in space which is a vacuum there in no air or density of air therefore allowing the objects to fall at the same speed because gravity is the only influence? Is this close at all lol
awesome video cool shit always wondered why though? What about the vacuum makes them fall at the same speed? Is it altering the gravity inside the vacuum or what?
@nasafakedit HOLY SHIT YOU ARE A FUCKING TROLL HAHAHAH i was bored and looked up apollo stuff, and after some time looking through them, and seeing ur comments on all of them, i go and i see the hammer and feather video which then lead me to this, and you now on this video!?! this doens't have anything to do with the moonlandings, for once i can sincerely say with the deepest parts of my heart, GET A FUCKING LIFE

Of course g = a , also you can write h = 0,5 g x t x t , so they are falling with the same acceleration regardless of their masse, but do you really undurstand why it doesn 't depend of the mass?
If you really want to understand you must know the equivalence principe which was really undurstood first by einstein himself, it was one of the first step to the general relativity. this is the equivalence between gravitationnal masse and inertial masse for a same object ! These rather exotic machines do exist, If you live in an technologically advanced civilization you may have come across one.. they are like a box in which people or objects are placed, then a button on the inside is pressed to activate them, standing on a set of scales clearly shows a gain or loss of acceleration due to gravity, they are AKA elevators.
