  • the trees are singin ~ :o) ~

  • This is one of those things where you family members sings it around a fire, you know her voice is a chipmonk, so you say, "Ah thats nice and walk off"

  • Love it..!!!

  • @cvchestnut, just read back in comments a bit. That's Roy Andrade, who played with Martha in the MOST excellent band, Reel Time Travelers.

  • Martha of course is great but I wish I knew the banjo players name to see if he has other stuff on the market.

  • BRILLIANT!

  • cant stop listening to this.. pure light.

  • Adored Reeltime Travelers, adore Martha Scanlon. Had the great good fortune to see her perform this for the first time at a house concert. So looking forward to anything I can get from this woman.

  • I saw Martha in Santa Barbara's, "Sings Like Hell" series over a year ago. She sang Seeds of the Pine accompanied by a pedal steel guitar. It was ghostly and amazing in a dark room. She did a lovely set and I became a fan.

    Love the banjo pickin' here.

  • The album this is on is loaded with great stuff.

  • this banjo is fantastic, and what an amazing voice!

  • came here to see scanlan, stayed for the banjo pickin

  • yes I agree, Scanlan is fantasic, but that banjo playing just blows me again every time, very very tasty.

  • Roy Andrade is picking some of the most tasteful clawhammer I've ever heard. Thanks for posting this video.

  • Scanlan is the sickest name in the world!!

  • good friend of mine turned me on to Martha Scanlan couple months ago..she is phenomenal. She can rock also but not in this vid.

  • I absolutely love Martha Scanlan much like my dog loves used paper towels; simply irresistible.

  • sweetest tune on YouTube

  • undoubtedly you are correct in that assumption

this woman is from the otherworld or has connections there

  • Shes great, first heard her on 'Cold Mountain" soundtrack w/her old band.

  • We HEART Martha Scanlan in Colorado!!!

  • LOVE this song. Montana.

    Love you MARTHA!

  • saw her recently , realy lovd her

  • This is just SO great!

I've been playing music like this for several years, but I'm not even close :-)

  • Absolutely gorgeous.... I'm a composer who's working on a film right now, and i can't tell you what an inspiration this piece is for me with the content i'm working with... Instant fan here... and thank you for the inspiration.

  • Looking forward to seeing Martha with Kelly Joe Phelps in Europe early next year! :-)

  • In this day can you believe this is the first Itune purchase I have ever made? I wish I could understand her lyrics. Back to back listening have granted me some but not all. I somehow get lost in the melody and the outstanding banjo backup.

  • here are the words josborne26. this may take a few comments. rains fell cold through june, grass is up to my thigh, say if it dries up it will burn just like the moon, say it opens up the seeds of the pine, i only want to dream about you, the dollar that could spend but i should save, just to see my fingers in your hair, the golden wheat around us where we lay, you're a slow ride down a country mile, you're the smell of apple pie to the blind, you're the last night on a july western sky,...
  • youre the center of the watermelon youre a sweet sweet smile cottonwood a-shakin in the breeze surrounded by a starry sky easy to forget the things we need easy to walk around mostly blind i could tell you not to come in from the storm i could tell you not to be so kind i could tell you not to close the door i could say i never wanted you for mine (chorus)
  • tconnarn, Thanks for taking the time to respond. It's much appreciated

  • One addition" "the golden wheat around and beneath us where we lay." I love this, too. I first heard it on KBOO's Pickathon CD and then Googled to find out more about Martha Scanlan and the piece. What luck to find a video. It's magical.

  • If like me you have watched this constantly for days...I have discovered you can buy it from itunes for 79p! This is a much better version than the one on the album (although the album is very good and ought to be in your collection). I hope these two play together for many years to come!

  • Absolutely the best banjo backup I've ever heard. I can't stop listening. Sweet.

  • Looking so forward to seeing Martha in two weeks at the Pagosa Springs Folk Festival!!!!

  • It just doesn't get any better in my book. I have watched this vid countless times, fallen asleep at my keyboard with it replaying over & over. Yet every time I come back, it still wants to make my cry cause it's so beautiful, and cause I wasn't there.

Much Love to Martha & Roy,

    g.

  • glad to know i'm not the only one who can't get enough of this song! lol

  • Love Martha...simple, rhythmic and lovely.

  • Everyone but Heidi Andrade...Roys wife. A Reeltime reuniuon would be inspirational.

  • amazing song! was blown away the first time i saw her preform it at merlefest's midnight jam last year, and took me almost a year to find it! amazing music!

  • Fabulous, Just ordered MS CD on strength of this video.

  • hah, me too.

  • Hope you enjoy it!

  • Wonderful video. What an honest talent. Great hair too, Martha. Hail MT!

  • Song from the album of the year !

  • beautiful.

  • Great video - Martha's singing voice is so fragile and beautiful. The banjo player is her former Reeltime Travelers colleague Roy Andrade.

  • Who's the banjo player?

  • Roy Andrade, I think.

  • Excellent film & sound quality..nice job!!!!!!

  • love it... sweet sweet banjo and Martha's sweet voice and lyrics.
