Wow! Brings back memories of my wilder days back in the 70s. I had a pedal exactly like that, a Cry Baby, an old beat up bass amp, and a pawn shop 57 Gibson ES330 hollow body. Used heavy gauge strings and man talk about a big sound! Only thing I still have is the guitar. Now it's easily worth ten times what I paid for it. As Alvin Lee said... "but I'd never sell my guitar!"
I had that same pedal but someone stole it from me including my Electro Harmonix Harmony Man. Two pedals stolen from me. *%@*#*(^!@*%*#$*(^#%@WTF???? makes me mad.
@sublime88sublime I'll think about it. I've had it forever and I'm kinda attached to it...Maybe I'll post a video of the Super Fuzz through my Univox bass rig....
@jonfender123 I have the mjm china fuzz and I can get the exact sound from this demo with it. I would check out the wattson superfuzz too cuz the trimpot is easier to access (imho it should be its own external knob) and it has a battery hatch so you wont be stripping the screws.
Buy one uni-fuzz (shin-ei), sound a lot like the grey version. Buy another, orange version sound killer. Sold it !!! 3 years later i buy another orange version sound even better than the first one. You can also have a companion fuzz wha for 150$ on ebay...but the orange version is the best...
does anyone know if this univox superfuzz is the same as the one in the grey casing with the little silver button to enable the effect? For example the first vid on youtube when you type in univox super fuzz?sound wise? thanks!!
The grey one has no bias pot peacemusic17 which lets you adjust the octave sound(i think..dont quote me on it)
and as for sound I believe that the grey one sounds a bit more raw and dirty where as by the time they made the orange one univox had perfected the design a bit. I have the grey one and its completely nuts.
I've tried the Roger Mayer stone-x fuzz! It's very amazing!
I've tried it with the whole fuzz dist and the guitar vol at ten and when I began to turn off the guitar pot the distostion turned down till becoming totally clean!!!
In other words you have the immediate control of the gain without any pedal or switch. And a great dirty clean sound! GREAT!
@davidjohen buy a wattson they still make the superfuzz and it sounds killer almost exactly the real thing i cant even tell them apart other than the obvious looks
@GrowTheCaine they don't thoughi tried it. so i made my own i bought the pcb off of ebay and found some really old guides and put it together sounds just like this one
@mrshnarfles well i suppose if you want the old school Germanium transistor fuzz i dont think the wattson sells that one its a silicon one but its still a pretty awesome fuzz
@mrshnarfles if you have problems with the temprature of the transistors try some mineral oil its really good for for containing the heat from the electricity
i love the super fuzz its such a ridiculous tone , my soind engineer thinks it sounds like notes exploding into fuzzy bombs of intense sound , his own words haha
actually he used used a fuzz face, a vox wha and a univibe..
He kept the univibe and the wha switched on using them like other EQ configuration and like a light trem effect almost confused with the original sound. Kind of distorded spacy sound..the perfect set up!
lawl. i just saw this exact same superfuzz over at the guitarcenter in hollywood in teh vintage room lawl. i think they were selling it for like $200 lawl
I managed to find one of these at a flea market for $15 back in the mid-1990's. The seller was like "Whaddya want that ol' piece of crap for? If you like that junk you'll probably also like this shitty guitar I've got for sale." The guitar turned out to be a Travis Bean he was selling for $150in order to afford a brand-new Epiphone(!) Les Paul. I didn't need any further encouragement.
The big muff is nothing like this. I own one of em. I would say the closest thing to this would be the china fuzz, considering it is the same damn thing.
Look for one, I haven't found anything in 30 years that's even close to the sound of this pedal. It would be worth it to find one, if you like the sound.
oh man i love the sound,i never used one though, i havnt even been around for 15 years lol,but there were some on ebay for 500$ it was to much money lol
Great Demo! I found a superfuzz at a thrift store for 3 bucks about 6 years ago. Best single pedal I have ever used. Had to sell it to pay the rent. Miss it dearly. When set for kill, this thing sounds like your amp is about to explode!
Brings back memories..bought mine new for less than 60.00 or so in the seventies.Gave it away once, got it back...then sold it a while back on e-bay for 500.00!!
THIS IS THE BEST FUZZ TONE PEDAL. I BOUGHT A ONE ONE MONTH AGO FOR 58 DOLLARS. IT'S FROM THE 70s BUT THERE ARE NO DATES OR SOMETHING. IT'S BRUTAL. GREETINGS FROM PERU
