  • Our railings are stained dark walnut. Just the treads are painted dark brown ;)

  • Hi all...I didn't sand in between polys....and as for the landing...I would suggest maybe a beadboard stained or painted to match stairs. Good luck!!!

  • I am sorry to bother you again, I already apply the first coat of poly and wanted to ask you if you sanded it in between coats. Thanks a lot, I am really enjoying this project.

  • The wood on the landing area is not attractive at all. Maybe yours is covered with a better material and not with this cheap piece of corrugated plywood. What should I do? Would the paint cover the imperfections? I hope you can help me!

  • Thanks, I will let you know how mine turns out.

  • Thanks, yours look amazing!! I let you know how mine turns out.

  • Color is called molasse by Behr Paints at home depot Thanks!

  • What color of paint did you use on the steps? It looks great!!

  • So glad you like the video ;) Good luck with your own project!

  • Thanks...doing this project now. and the Beatles song is perfect!

  • Oh awesome!! You go!! Share pics on the fb page at cleverlyinspired :)

  • such a great look , Good Work! lots of detail sanding and brush work , an acyrlic Poly can be used to speed dry time on treads and wear knee pads when working even for a few minutes ,

  • Informative, yet simple to follow. Thank You

  • Hi! I'm inspired! I started removing our runner and the stairs are so pretty in our 100 yr old house. Im gong to paint my stairs like yours...they look so beautiful with a simple modern flair! I have a technical q: you used Behr semi-gloss latex then 2 coats of satin poly on top? For the riser, did you use a semi-gloss too? Thanks!!!

  • hberg321: Hi there...actually we did every other stair....let that dry over night and then did the other..every other stair...make sense?? I know that sounds confusing.

  • Hi - how did you keep dog/kids/husband off the stairs while the primer/paint/poly dried? The stairs must have been out of commission for a couple days, right? Are you blessed with a back staircase? I just finished getting the carpet off the stairs at my sisters place and the stairs underneath are desperate for refinishing but I'm concerned about the pets.

  • That's also me

  • My carpet looked worst than yours, and my wood has more tread wear.

    I'm anxious to get started.

  • Great video. I found when removing the carpet strips, wedging 2 flathead screwdriver and walking them down the plank really help you quickly removing these strips

  • What made you use regular paint and polyurethane instead of using the Behr porch and floor paint?

  • thanks! It is not nearly as hard as you think...just need some patience and time ;)

  • I just got a quote to do our stairs and my eye balls nearly popped out of my head and I decided to do them myself. You are amazing! A real inspiration! I am off to check out your website!

  • thanks! I used a white semi gloss paint on the risers (no poly) and On the treads I used an eggshell finish paint followed by 3 coats of minwax satin polyurethane. Good luck!!!

  • Thanks yall!

  • We used Behr Semi Gloss

  • What type of Finish was the Behr paint you used?

  • Thank you! I have been looking for a video just like this. This would help me a great deal into tackling my stairs!

  • Thanks for sharing, looking forward to more videos.

  • Nice video! Good idea to paint the stairs.I was researching how it would look and I now see it's going to look just great, thanks!
