It may keep the dog in the harness, but it looks like the dog might die or get severely hurt by the whiplash. The way they aren't actually "tied down" to the seat will allow the force to keep going in the dog.
Plastic clips like the ones in this video, tore right off in a german test (ADAC), using a medium weight dog (22 kgs). Spend your money wisely, choose metal clips all the way. They might hold a dog this small safely, though...
@ladythalia Was the test using this same harness? I doubt it, so please don't confuse people. This harness passed child safety standards of 30 pounds at 30 mph. The plastic clips with this design bear very little load in an accident. They are designed mostly to keep the harness in place. When stopping short the load is on the built-in tether strap which is a metal buckle and clips into the seatbelt receptacle.
@SmallDogBreed The test was done with several harnesses, plastic and metal. They plastic ones all tore off and sent the dog flying. And yes, it was the harness itself that broke. The dummy dog weighed 22 kg (ca 48 pounds) - in other words a medium sized dog, and the speed was also a bit higher then the testing you refer to. To sum up: Plastic will hold small breeds in place at low impact crashes, but ADAC concluded the test dummy dog that they used, would have died, had it been real.
@ladythalia Just to be clear - Those tests have nothing to do with this harness and have nothing in common with this harness which has been tested and passed today's child safety standards in the United States.
I'm just wondering why th strap is so long, hurling them so far forward...I'm going to keep looking for a better option for that reason. Kind regards- GOC
it looks like the harness would break their neck

@SierraMusic143 No, hitting the windshield would break their neck. These are test dummies with no spinal cord.

Think how much it would hurt them to hit the dashboard or windshield! No comparison.
