That train is 10-cars, 20m each car = 200m long, and more than 25 trains ran per hour, and still crowded like that in 1990s. They can't introduce bigger trains because thay want to fit the national standard size, which is narrow-gauge, 2800mm wide, 20m long.

But now, they have increased the number of the tracks (two tracks for each direction) in the most crowded zone, and have increased the number of trains to almost 30 per hour, which has made the trains a little less crowded.

I've seen this in 1973 when I was in Tokyo. People didn't mind because if they do, they won't get to their destination on time. Their stations are very busy with one having an average of half a million passengers everyday. Figure that out!
