This is a break from tradition. Protestant churches have been "Americanized" here in the USA to fit the PEOPLES needs, instead of the traditions GOD handed down.
I wish that our anglican services could be like this.....our congregation would GROW iwth so many young people!.
often young people are turned away from the anglican church because of the "boredom" of the liturgical rituals but if we were to do this, and put some of the young people on the drums and piano, we could really save some souls and be a true church for once!
Well the bishops is a good singer at least..is he wearing a chasuble or something else? This must be low church, even high church can be charismatic, at least it is so in the Chuch of Sweden.
@karpov89@karpov89 The Bishop is wearing a Chimere - this is a uniquely Anglican garment for a Bishop - it is NOT a vestment (although he is wearing a stole). Some low church Anglican reject the use of the vestments but 'High' church Anglican's have most of the practices and vestments that you use in your beautiful Lutheran liturgies.
@739richard I think it should be compulsory for the bishop to wear a chasuble, or the cope if he is not the celebrant. I have been to services in Sweden when bishops from the Anglican Church has participated..the last one was low church and only wore the alb and stole..a pity, the mitre and cope were missing.
@karpov89 Inclined to agree with you. I have no idea why using the correct vestments causes a problem - Dr Luther certainly used them along with all the other ceremonies surrounding the Mass (see the Augsburg Confession) - but having said that it is a question of practice not theology so we should not be dogmatic. By the way I think all your video clips of Lutheran Liturgy are great - it is wonderful to see the church of Sweden retains its Lutheran heritage in such purity.
@739richard Thank you for your kind words; yes I think it could be an example for other Lutheran churches..the mass and the vestments were never abolished in Sweden and the historic episcopate never broken. In High church lutheran vespers 4 - recessional, hymn and blessing and ESC winner attending the high mass on Whitsun you see two Anglican bishops, differently dressed..the latter is a low church congregation but the priest still wear the chasuble and have a solemn recessional.
WOW I have never seen communion like this but our Anglican church is starting out we just turned a year old. I met Bishop Minn at our church concencration he is a wonderful man!
I was raised in a Pentecostal church, and believe me, this is quite mild in comparison with the goings-on in those circles...however, I became an Anglo-Catholic to escape the rock-n-roll atmosphere of that type of "worship" and I don't enjoy it in an Anglican context, but at least these ppl believe the Faith, which makes this go down a bit better! :O)
I can see not much has changed in Truro's services since I went there in the '80's. Very triumphal in a slightly charismatic way. The impulse always to conjure up ecstatic emotion as a kind of moral duty is very strong there. If you aren't emotionally bouncing off the ceiling, you haven't prayed. From a liturgical point of view it is a clear cross between praise and worship and a "mass." It was good for me at the time. Just could not get passed the anti-Catholicism so popular in that church.
Wow, you obviously haven't been to Truro in a long time. I started going there in 1982, was saved in 1983 and left in 2005 (when I moved out of state). The "anti-Catholicism" you refer to was not that in fact, but rather the teaching of Salvation by faith alone (Sole Fide). I remember, I was was there too! God bless you.
The anti-Catholicism was somewhat theological, but was mostly viceral. When the AB of Canterbury and the pope embraced back in '82, the condemnations of "papism" were brutal, enraged and came from the clergy one Friday night at Prayer and Praise.
The "Hosannah" sung here is exactly the kind of charismatic emotionalism I spoke of. The drums and swaying aren't appropriate. They make the Eucharistic Prayer of the priest something dull-which is really the center and height of the liturgy.
Looks like a Presbyterian Communion Service. I know the Anglican Church as wide variance in terms of local custom, and broad church values, but this is pushing it. Why bother?
I'm sure that's true. Unfortunately, some Anglicans confuse simplicity and high emphasis on evangelism with being part of the "Catholic Faith". Catholic in the real sense of the word, not Roman. It's a shame really, because there's not appropriate place in Anglicanism for this type of worship - why bother when they can go to a Pentacostal meeting hall. This is the result of weak boundaries in the name of the "via media" concept, and lack of strength on the part of Bishops. It's a mess.
In fact, worship in the EC should be streamlined to meet a common liturgical ground. There is no way that the Reformation suggested this type of behavior. It was a reformed catholicism, free of Papal domination, and more scripturally centered beliefs. This is not Anglican worship no matter what anyone at Truro "church" thinks it is. It's an embarrassment.
Thanks to whoever posted this video. It it great to see my bishop at his home parish. I met Bishop Minns, and his wife and daughter, for the first time earlier this year when they visited us at St. Patrick's (CANA) in Smyrna, TN. We were all greatly overjoyed by their visit, and cannot wait for their return!
Ah, this brings back memories from my almost 23 years at Truro. I started attending in August 1982, then accepted Christ in April 1983. I served as an acolyte, on youth leadership, on evangelism committees, LEM and on and on. We left Truro only because we moved out of state, and the Episcopal church in our new community is as liberal as they come. Loved this video ... really takes me back.
"It is a good and joyful thing to give thanks always and everywhere to you O Lord"
This reminds me of my former parish in Tampa, the Episcopal House of Prayer. Two of my three kids were baptized there. I miss worshipping there. That was 20 years ago, how time flies.
Liturgically and theologically broader range in Anglicanism, from Anglo-Catholic to Evangelical. Different ideas on authority, too. We'd all say the Bishop of Rome is a bishop, but few of us would give him authority outside his own diocese,
But the Episcopal church Does recognize the Bishop of Canterbury has the highest in authority in church Dogma, according to one of the professors at the Virginia Theological Seminary I talked to.
That said I can't understand Truro's leaving the Diocese, but then I go to St. Clement in Alexandria, and were Liberal has they come.
I'm Episcopalian and this church is wayyyyyyyy too charasmatic for me. As for the comparison to Catholics, I used to be Catholic and they are very similiar. Some churches more than others though.
No disrespect to this church, but I wouldnt attend it. I am very traditional/high church.
I'm Episcopalian too who is also a former Catholic haha... and i sort of agree with you. I really don't know which one I would preffer... =P I personally like the traditional Rite II liturgy alot, yet this seems that it would be a great priviledge to attend. So i really don't know which one I would preffer...
Hey, I didnt even noticed you posted. I also like the Rite II Liturgy. The Episcopal Church I go to has Rite 1 with no music and then Rite II with full liturgy.
This is a break from tradition. Protestant churches have been "Americanized" here in the USA to fit the PEOPLES needs, instead of the traditions GOD handed down.

Utter blasphemy, as is the entire catholic "church".

Well, it is like getting married, in a way. I think that's how most grooms look - and perhaps rectors are in a similar spot.

Truro has not been Anglican in any meaningful way in a very long time--more like Sprinkling Pentecostals.

Please don't draw any conclusions about Episcopalians as a whole from the folks at Truro. Most Anglicans do not holy roll like this.

The celebrant is the bishop (who was born in England). Tory is the one in white with the black stole and he's American.
