I totally agree with all these positive comments and am so surprised myself that Ron isn't more well known This song is absolutely amazing, as is Ron himself. I saw him at the Union Chapel last month. I cannot stop playing 'Long player late bloomer' and I can't wait to go 'backwards' and buy his previous albums. All you fans out there, please post him onto your facebook and please buy his music, don't download it for free, this is one of the reasons people like Ron aren't getting 'out there'.
@0691Barbie 'Whereabouts' is his masterpiece. 12 years ago now and he's never bettered itthough all his albums are great. I have them all and 'Whereabouts' is his greatest achievement but still did nothing to better his career which in my opinion means he'll never 'make it' to where he wants to go commercially. Great songwriter but he just doesn't connect for one reason or another and this latest album will do nothing to change that.
It bugs the shit outta me that this guy is this good a songwriter, and the only way people are hearing his music is 60,000 views on Youtube (which should be 60 million), and by people covering his songs.
I saw Ron Sewxsmiths bio on T.V. and I fell in Love with his voice and his songs. I Loved that you don't hide your feelings and it shows in all music. He thinks he hasn't made it but he has, he's come along way!Keep it up, I am checking out all your songs.
I've followed Ron's music ever since a girlfriend introduced me to Secret Heart and I'm here to tell you this man is super talented. A great song writer, beautiful singer and class musician.
Heard this song on the radio and immediately thought it was Paul McCartney...(post Beatles)..There is an amazing similarity in their voices, at least in this song....it's even a similar type love song to many Sir Paul sang. I'm sure Ron Sexsmith will have much success...love the voice.
@INgirl812 Actually thats a good point cause Paul McCartney has confessed his favourite singer-songwriter is Sexsmith among other famous artists who also love him!
Great, another song ( Cockburn's All the Way I want You, Dylan's Mississippi, Hornsby's Fields of Gray, and Chrissie Hynde's soulfull voice on Revolution), that I can't resist singing, humming, and generally walking with it's melody tripping though my psyche. I'm so choked up it's sick. Love Shines is sooooo gooood, it's bad.
I remember seeing a poster bill in a window on Queen St back in the early nineties and reading about Ron in "Now"; always wondered why he hadn't achieved major acclaim. Clearly he has mastered his craft and I'm not wondering anymore, with Steve Earle, Elvis Costello, Feist and our very own Gordon Lightfoot praising him he has, in my opinion, earned the label of a Canadian Music icon.
Wow. This is what I call a great song. Absolutely gorgeous tune. I found this because I am a big fan of Colin Hay of Men at Work, and in an interview, he mentioned his name. I'm a big fan of YouTube. So easy to find good stuff. G
I truly enjoyed your music, keep it up, actually reminds me of Cliff Richards voice and singing.(I'm from way back)!!! I have a 40 yr old son whom your songs remind me of him also. God bless you.
About 4 years ago i was dozing off in front of the tv showing a daft film called Intermission, when i first heard the song These Days, after a few seconds i woke up, startled by the simple power of a perfect melody sung to perfection and immediately wanted to know who sung that. I waited until the end of the film, read the credits and next day went out and bought not only the LP from which this song came but everything else he'd put out. And now hes playing my home town and i cannot wait!
I agree with doug64, this is the time, an this is the album for the world to know Ron. Excellent from start to end, all songs are gems. Thank you Ron for another piece of art. And for giving us your soul.
ncontestably The greatest songwriter to have emerged since 20 years. His condidential success is a really mystery so true his genius is obvious. But Long Player Late Bloomer his new could definetely change things !!!
Incontestably The greatest songwriter to have emerged since 20 years. His condidential success is a really mystery so true his genius is obvious. But Long Player Late Bloomer his new could definetely change things !!!
I heard him yesterday for the first time. After listening to a couple songs here, I plan to buy his latest album. The man has soul (and talent to match). I'll never understand why artists like Ron don't get more radio play. Of course, it doesn't really matter anymore (radio's pretty dead), but it still irks me. I just watched Katy Perry's E.T. then I watched this -- quite a trip. Not that I dislike pop, but it's another planet.
I love Ron's music and truly love this track too, A master craftsman and songwriter, a virtuoso so ignored by a music industry that has no interest in real talent but would rather churn out the lifless dribble to the masses with individuals who can't sing, can't write and can't even play an instrument................Thankyou Ron for sharing.
I bought this album yesterday on the strength of a couple of songs I heard on Youtube. It's a very longtime this since I heard an album as brilliant as this. Full of gems, Everytime I follow, Get in Line to name a couple.
fa un parell d'anys que gaudeixo d'aquest artista, em fou recomanat per un amic músic i des-de aleshores o he buscat, escoltat i gaudit de debò, es d'agrair sensibilitats com aquesta.
like a of people on here I discovered this guy through the doc.. Love this song. It fair lifts the auld heart. His melodies are so right: they're irresistible. I'm ashamed that I've not heard of him before. I hope his light gets to shine all the brighter in the future.
What a brill record, i rate this song along with the greats, Brings tears to my eyes only recently have i discovered ron, But i will be bying his records superb.
Agree with you "ilovemusicboo" there are a lot nuances of great singers in his voice. Can't believe I only got onto this guy last night through Songwriter's Circle. I done the same with Roddy frame.so can Anyone Point me to the rest of those songwriting talents out there that I've missed over the years ?
Please support Ron, go out and buy the CD, you won't regret it I promise, and ask your local radio stations to play something from this new cd.. he deserves to be heard :) it will be good for him and good for all listeners too:)
seems a lot of folks are getting in to him through the doc.....me included. Can't stop listening to this. Buy the album......let's get him to No 1......he deserves (and wants) it!
@slojam hi me too i have been on youtube all aft cant stop listening to this - ordered the cd and justed watched the doc again on iplayer. hope it makes good for him
Saw the film last night on the telly, just spent all afternoon listening to it, trying to work out the chords and singing along, such moving sweet simplicity, it blows me away
@stetaxi3 yep sounds like mccartney and graham gouldman said the same thing in the programmme after the doc - but theres someone else oat times and i cant bring to mind is it ray davies of the kinks ?
@SPARKY53100 - While in the local supermarket was suprised to recognise in an instant the fantastic 'Believe it when I see it' even though volume low and had only listened to him on here couple of times. I wanted to tell the customers in the aisle to shush and listen:) Thank goodness the CD finally arrived Saturday morning - I needed a fix - so addictive - I love it! As you say not a poor track - the more I listen the more I hear if that makes sense. Love shines is my alarm tone -fab way wakeup
@stetaxi3 Totally sounds like him, and especially with those vertical melody lines stretched over quite basic major chord progressions this is a song that could quite easily have fallen off a late beatles album or any of Mccartney's solo work. has the same winsome quality. its there in These Days too; the guy just has to lighten up and maybe leaven his output with less sadness.
@TheNella1961 He's very talented, great writer, good singer, nice guy, very sincere, he's just not a dynamic seller when it comes to marketing himself. I guess that's kinda the theme of the doc.too.
No doubt about it.... Ron doesn't let us down. A great sound from a truly talented artist and musician. Would love Ron to tour Australia in the near future, perhaps sometime.

I'm sure he could do a week straight and sell out every night, no problem.

How Ron Sexsmith is not the No1 best selling artist in the world is beyond all reason.
His melodies are memerable his lyrics speak for everyone. i've yet to hear a song I dislike from this undoutably MEGA talented star.
Unfortunately, people these days prefer hype over talent, AKA The X Factor, Et Al.
So much for the enlightenment of man.
