I miss music like this...and damn was she beautiful. I looked her up and she has aged very well, she still looks the same 20+ years later. Black don't crack...unless your Jasmine Guy, lol.
great song..dont remember it though..lol! But I remember that girl and she was in Coming to America back in the day. If this came out in '88, then i was just 8 and was too busy listening to The Boys and Another Bad Creation. I miss the 80s/90s music PERIOD!
is this song from 1988? i remember singing it in my bedroom with the windows open...the neighborhood girls would come by the front of my house just to hear me sing
@freakdee1 Or they can just simply quit listening to music altogether. They can give someone else that can't hear their ears, maybe they will appreciate good music unlike them.
@MazyMagillicutty HA HA HA That's funny .....U know Prince Eddie's woman (Shari Headley) was popular. She was in music videos with Blackstreet, Will Smith, etc But I didn't know she palyed on All My Children for 4 years! and had a son with Play from Kid 'n Play!
He is truly jamming off this song...You can tell he is sharing his feelings & depth w/ his viewers, the vocals & movements - WOW! I loved seeing this video on BET back in the day..& enjoy finding this! Thanks for the awesome post!
this is a tight song with najee playing in the background he doesn't really play these songs in concert any more because he's saved but this is what made him
Saw Jonathan do this live, at a summer jazz concert in 2009 on west coast... took us all back to the 80's real quick. Oh and by the way - Jonathan was right on pitch and feelin it, and the audience was ROCKIN' !!
So beautiful!!Im really down on the mainstream music nowadays.Famousfuture your list is the bomb, damn i miss these days when buying music was an event.2 days ago i went looking 4 Tony Terrys new CD & no one had it,hell i only found Al B Sure in Wmart, this is just sad.I want things 2 be like they used to :(
See now i want to hear some of the artists that were out back in 87 now. lol Like Miles jaye, Najee, Karen something i forgot, but she made "love saw it" w/ babyface, Bobby Brown, Lisa Lisa, The Whispers, Loose Ends(this my group), Jodey Waltley, The System, Force MD's, Angela Winbush(she was by herself then), damn who else i feel like hearing now? Oh Stephine Mills "Medicine" and "You putting a rush on me". lol
I will always love this song. But what cracks me up re this video is Jonathan Butler straight gets his groove on like he's dancing to a fast track at one point in this. Brotha FELT this song like he def was singin to SARAH
OHHHHHHHHHHHHH this was my cassette single du jour in 1989. BET used to show this video all the time along with "If You Asked Me To" by Patti Labelle, "It's No Crime" by babyface and "Feels Good" by Perri...I was about 18 then :)
I've seen this brotha live! He gave so much of himself...one of the greatest and most humble performers I've had the pleasure of seeing and meeting...and I've seen and met many.
Classic, I hear you bro, and I think the funniest bit in the film, is at the end, where Eddies Character says to her, ''would you have given up all of this for me'', and she looks at him and say ''Nah'', but she is totally hot, real natural beauty, but that film was awash with beautiful women. PEACE
From now on this is my anthem as well as Sara Smile I'm just thrilled when I hear songs with my name I take them very personally. Great lyrics love you Mr. Butler.
A strong voice of the struggle in South Africa Against the apartied Govt. that really still occupies today. But you will not hear his music reflect that pain. Believes apartied govt. is not deserving of the beauty of musical art forms.
And the multi talented horn man "Naji" on the sax doin his thing none better ! Thanks for posting this track !
This takes me back to my high school days. I always loved the jazz vibe to this classic and ironically this was popular around the same time as Vanessa Williams's "Dreamin" which is very similar to this song. Great job posting this one and keep up the good work!
I recently saw Shari in the spotlight not that long ago and let me tell ya girlfriend dont look like she aged one bit I believe it was two or three yrs ago if Im not mistaken Im tellin ya lookin at her you would think its still1988 to bad I couldnt see more of her.
LOVE this song! I'm jus now hearing it tho thanks for philly's WDAS FM. I looked it up as soon as I heard. *adds to good ol music collection* Young Old head for life, there's nothing like this type of music
Moon22T, it's folks like you that keep me hopeful about music, GOOD music's potential for broad appeal. I see so many young brothas and sistas on YouTube commenting on how good this type of music is. Thanks for keeping my faith restored, okay?
Young headz, folks like me who are 40, and beyond, we can all get behind beautiful music and be one. Too cool.
I just wish there was a way for it to be "commercially viable."
Jonathon Butler is da man. He is the best African Male R&B singer ever, and Sade is the Best African Female singer ever. The worst african singer ever is Akon. If Akon was to try to battle Jonathon Butler in a Sing-Off Battle, he would get decapitated, , destroyed, incinerated, out class, out blast, and out thrash this Akon bum in a Sing-Off Battle. Butler would rip the rest of these so called R&B clowns of today. He would run circles around those bozos of todays R&B.
It's funny how the mind works: I have literally not heard this song in 20 years; then I heard it last night--in my dreams (just the chorus)! It was in my head all day and when i came home the first thing I did was look it up.
They truly dont make them like this anymore! This was one of the first songs I dug up to put on my IPod! Is there anyone here like me that just found out he does gospal music now...where in the world have I been?? =}
Another good old school love song. My personal favorite. Hardly ever played on the radio. A jazzy, soulful beat, and great singing. Brings back good memories
Like Al B. Sure's "Nite & Day" & Keith Sweat's "Make It Last Forever" --all coincidentally released in the same year-- Jerry Butler's "Sarah, Sarah" is kissed with that smooth R&B magic that defined the quiet storm sound of the 80's. You knew these songs were classics the instant you heard them. They were more than just noise that took up airwave space, these songs evoked an emotion; a feeling that was heard in every part: from the unique way an artist sung the lyrics to the instrumentation.
Yup yup.. Don't forget Candlelight & You (Chante Moore & Keith Washington), as well as a ton of others. I love these kind of tunes. Amel Larrieux & Glen Lewis did a tune somewhat recently: What's Come Over Me... very nice.
I couldnt have worded that better Phire. Back in 88's I was in HS and I remember in NY the radio station that played JB was CD101.9 Smooth Jazz. JB embodied the Quiet Storm along with AL B Sure and Keith Sweat, Luther, Anita Back and countless others.
The more I listen to this it makes me long for those days back in the 80's and also makes me sad at the same time.Sad that these were special times for all of us(older ones), when tuning in to the radio at night listening to this was so touching :(
@Mahlercougar CD 101.9 Is history.... I'm waiting for someone to start up a new smooth jazz station again. The closest thing we have to that now 98.7 KISS which I love but doesn't play the smooth jazz like we need to calm us down in NYC! I grew up listening to CD 101.9. I miss it.
@PhireMadeFlesh These the type of 80's R&B grooves I like. I never knew who sung this song untill I've heard it on the radio. Who is that girl in the video she was a numerous of movies I can't remember her name.
OMG! When my nephew was little he loved this song. He was like 4yrs old but whenever he heard it he would start singing it. It was the cutest thing. LOL!
Everyone is right. They don't make music like this anymore. Where did the smooth jazz and quiet storm music go ? In some cities, the smooth jazz stations are being bought out by other music genre's. It is ashame so many people don't understand or like smooth jazz.
Soft and Warm, The Majic 108 Quiet Storm, ohh I'm sorry, I was having a good flashback on a good old slow jam! They don't make em like this no more! Take it off, no fourplay, no romance is not in these kid's playbook anymore! Bring back slow jams and not this microwave crap they call music today! Peace!
Gateway, you brought back some more memories with Jock and Kev! Radio sucks so bad now that they have two 24 rap stations and just don't groove like they used to! I wish they would of had a 24 hour rap station when rap was real rap! Peace to you and all the St. Louis Crew all over!
this guy from high school once asked me why when he saw me in '01 i was playing this kind of music in my cd player.I told him because I'm grown and this is grown man music right here. I'm 28 now and have loved this song since I was 9 when it came out in '89.
Thanks for the upload.

I miss it.

Peace!

I feel you on that one. Remember Dr. Jockenstein and Kevvy Kev? Doc Winter was the man, nuff said.....
