  • If Mary Walsh was really funny, she'd be working in the States where the big money and fame is.

    She sucks.

  • I fear the extent to which we're fooled into being told what to think when we're so often being told what we think by media types tossing off their endless generalisations. 'We've gotten very conservative', or, 'We've become very tech savvy', etc. I'm not saying it's always nefarious or even intentional, but too much monkey-see-monkey-do (god that phone-to-the-ear hand gesture thing is getting annoying!) has made our culture frighteningly clichéd and, well ... stupid.

  • @alxcookie Seems to be. But if you look at an older Canadian comedian, like Dave Broadfoot, and compared him to the other members of the Air Face you'd see quite a difference. His comedy was more about connecting to the people and making them laugh, getting a few jabs in at the system. He was what you might call a people's comedian.

  • Steven Harper is actually really funny, apparently. A friend of mine met him and thought he was hilarious.

  • I wish 22 Minutes spent more time making fun of pollies and businessmen than the Canadian public. They weren't a bad comedy group, but this is why it wasn't funny to *the people* like it could have been.

  • @Neurolanis i disagree, i think it was very funny to 'the people' as you refer to them. perhaps that is why it is such a long-running show...

what do you even mean by making fun of the Canadian public? they were always targeting politicians and businessmen!

  • @billytinkler Long-running because they were good comedians, and there wasn't a lot of competition in the way of Canadian entertainment.

"what do you even mean by making fun of the Canadian public?"

Did you ever watch the show?

  • @Neurolanis did you, you idiot? did you ever see Mary Walsh berate the public during Question Period? yeah, that's what I thought.

  • @billytinkler Watch again, as they make fun of typical Canadians, old women, etc. The People. Mean comedy, personal comedy on the Canadian people. Air Farce did the same thing, making fun of Tim Horton's employees (The People.) 22 Minutes would make fun of Harper too, being a robot. But they should have spent less time making fun of The People. No, I never saw Walsh on Question Period. I'm not a couch potato, I miss many things on TV. But I used to watch 22 Minutes, and sometimes enjoyed it.

  • @doomsword86 Alcohol shouldn't be legal either. Sorry, I'm a bit against anything that makes people ignorant for no reason other than pleasure.

  • @TehBirddCage what about the hordes of ignorant non-alcoholics out there? what about totally sensible who enjoy drinking on occasion? if people can't smoke pot or drink, should they be allowed caffeine in the mornings? what exactly governs your attitude toward substance use and substance abuse?

it strikes me as pretty ignorant to only see things in black and white...

  • @billytinkler What about them? something bad should be justified as good because there are some good people who do it as well?

It's not ignorant to see black and white, it's safer. If there are hordes of ignorants without the substances, why would you want to further that by legalizing them? I just really don't understand the justification in legalizing any of that crap when it all just sums up to "We want to be high or drunk dude, lols"

  • @TehBirddCage okay, it is SAFER to see things i black and white. okay.

the advantages of legalizing substances are:

    1) they are easier to control because they are not black-market commodities

    2) criminals cannot make money from them.

    3) conversely, the government CAN

    4) it reduces related violence involving gangs, violence, etc

    5) it is easier to ensure that safe products are consumed

    6) minors are less likely to find it available to them

    7) people will do it ANYWAY

    do you get it?

  • Interview was just getting good...then I was cut off like last Saturday at the local legion.

  • @s2macdon LOL. support your local legion!

  • @doomsword86 Let's not and say we did.
