if the iron cobra rebounds and "smacks you on the toe", you need to eaither A. adjust the feel into a heavier one or B. adjust the tension to make it not bounce back as much

The reason why it hit you in the toe is that them springs are way too loose. You get a lot more rebound when they are tighter, just have them medium tight.

That's what I originally thought, but that wasn't it. The iron cobra actually has an adjustment for how close you want the beater to the head other than the tension adjustment.
