@brewers97 Bismarck would have brought along her equally potent sister, Tirpitz, plus the Scharnhorst, Gniesenhau, Prinz Eugen & a vast numbers of U-Boats. 6:1? I think not!
Isn't it a travesty that this ( otherwise excellent film ) never gave any credit to the damage that p.o.w. did to the Bismark. She scored three hits on Bmrk causing her to take on 2000 tons of sea water and causing enough damage for the original mission to be cancelled. Also P.O.W stood up surprisingly well to the punishment she received by 4 hits fron bmrk and 3 fron p.eugen.
Wasn't the plan for Repulse to meet Bismarck if she had gone south of Iceland? That may have turned out even worse, seeing as Repulse was even more poorly armoured and more weakly armed than Hood.
@phonepkh Correct. The Western Approaches HQ in Liverpool dealt with ,as the name implies, a large area to the West and south-west of Britain called the Western Approaches. The War at Sea was run from London. This would have included the Denmark Straights. However....Western Approaches would have been involved with the Bismark once that ship entered the approaches area. (but still co-ordinated from London)
Point of FACT- The hunt for the Bismarck & the Battle Of The Atlantic, was co-ordinated from the Western Approaches HQ located in Liverpool, NOT London. This is an anomoly in the otherwise superb film. The Western Approaches HQ is open to the public-well worth a visit!
@LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH Well pointed out at the time this film was made that was still a secret, I am in Liverpool and there are many secrets to still be revealed.
@0ddba1l Liverpool's role in WW2 was vital to the British war effort. The port of Liverpool was the main avenue through which supplies from the US entered the US. The Battle Of The Atlantic was co-ordinated from Liverpool from the then secret HQ beneath Exchange Flags. Captain Johnny Walker the expert U-Boat killer who pioneered anti- U-Boat tactics also operated out of Liverpool. Liverpool took some of the heaviest punishment during the Blitz of 41.
@LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH Yes for over 15 years I worked in the Telephone exchange near there that was also built during WW2 and has blast proof doors in the basement the rooms were used as a air raid shelters and backup switch boards, with bunk beds etc.
There are other communication centres 70 ft below ground under other buildings in that area, hardly anyone knows about them. Also much of the Gold reserve of England was stored in the basement of a bank in Liverpool city centre.
@0ddba1l Yes you are correct re the Gold Reserve. I have seen the steel doors on the pavement where they passed the gold down into the storage area. The operation was carried out in the early hours of the morning & the whole area was sealed off by the Police & army. The idea behind it was to enable the gold to be rapidly transported to the port & onto a Canadian bound ship in the event of invasion. Much of the bunker complex is still closed off to the public.
@0ddba1l My dad's father worked in shipping insurance. Everyday he used to attend the secret HQ in order to obtain convey shipping lists. All the military personnel wore civilian clothing on route to the HQ, they then got changed into uniform on arrival. It is amazing that the existance of the HQ remained a secret not only throughout the war, but for many years afterwards. It reflects on the discretion & integrity of all those associated with the complex. The HQ control room appears in the film.

I Love the CHOURS!!! "Whatever you do...sink the Bismark! Whatever the cost we must pound this Deutch Mark" That's awesome. In even better with churchil behind the words. I also love with the serious voice"...900 meteric tons..." that's awesome!
yeah! man this song is awesome!!!!!!!! although the number changes when they sink it at the beginning it's 21 thousand 900 meteric tons, but when they sink it it's 50,900 meteric tons...weird. still it's awesome!
if you see in the video it is a ship hull, without the added tons of guns...then at the end of the song She is fully complimented , so the weight is different..
That's an incredible song and and a great video. Thanks for giving the torpedo bombers their due. They're often overlooked in the history of the Bismark.
Hello, Sorry i have Been so busy This last year, I have had no time for any new stuff, it is frustrating, I have got a whole bunch of new equipment and no time to set it up and record, but I will try and find the time soon as it is driving me crazy with new Ideas!!!
Quite clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. Islam is not the enemy but a few stupid people claiming they represent all muslims. Salam whalakum (peace be to you)
there are more than a Few NUTJOBS, but you are correct ISLAM is not an Enemy , the people who believe in it's Perversions/understandings to kill, are sick. NOW HEAR THIS ANY GOD THAT CANNOT DO IT"S OWN KILLING IS NOT A GOD AT ALL...BUT A COWARD , and is the FALL GUY(Devil)for others who claim the Killings as a GOD's Will, and a reward system for sex in the after life "What the HELL is That ALL about?" Hormone/Sexual Deprived Fools!!! God Bless everyone (Tiny Tim from A Christmas carol)
I was actually commenting about the orignal film makers who spend LOADS of money, and then go and get something really simple wrong, like not properly researching their subject, or mixing up : port and starboard.
Many people making a Hood/Bismarck vid are forced to use this (technically flawed) footage.
It's OK for 'general' viewing, but you feel like you're 'tripping' if you actually know all the details of the action.
Moved on, these were Experiments in song/movie condensing and see if we could.
the images are incidentals to give the Music a Visual effect as well as a Musical piece on the subject. listen to the song without pictures and then you edit it!
correct what we did, it is easy you see what it needs, go for it, I think it would be a great revamp of an Idea Skeleton, with a new body
It's just a damned shame that all these little Neo-Nazi fanboys we seem to be breeding at the moment, can't actually be sent back in time, to experience life under their revered heroes, Hitler, Himmler, etc.
And if they found that so 'pleasurable' they could always try strutting, goose-stepping, and 'Sieg Heiling' it, in front of an advancing Red Army while calling them: 'Unter Menschen' !
Sorry I have been so Busy this year... I have been swamped with work, this july I hope to get back to my own projects..Graf Spee being one of them, don't give up hope it is in the works, just trying to get as much work and make enough Money to take the Music to another Level, as I want the next projects to be better Productions.
the germans almost always claim that ships sunk are scuttled its pure propaganda, for example the battlecruiser lutzow sank at the battle of jutland in 1916 due to flooding caused by shell fire was abandoned and then torpedoed so it could be claimed that the ship was scuttled, at the time the bow was completly submerged up to the guns and the props out of the water scuttling only speeds up the sinking of an already sinking ship
Hahahaha, yea.. it's a good thing we don't have any part in the global economy.. when we go down the rest of the world will just stand around laughing...
song rocks,i like the bismarck was the best battle ship ever created by any country.. if the rudder diddnt jam all of the british ships would of been dead. she had a range of 36.6 , really crazy
the bismark was not the best battleship ever the brit vangard was superior the us iowa also and the jap yamato far superior, the bis was 50000t loaded but compared the the smaller treaty compliant north carolina and kgv you get very little for the extra size,nc 9 16" guns 12"belt armour 27 knots kgv 10 14" guns 15" belt 28.5k bis 8 15"guns 12.9to8.5" belt 29knots.the us ships 16" guns fire 2700lb super heavy shells bismarks guns 1750lb the kgv had a far superior armour belt.
In 2004 a US lead survey of Bismarck's found no underwater penetrations of the ship's fully-armoured citadel, Huge dents showed that the 14 inch (356 mm) shells fired by King George V bounced off the German belt armour, Interior ROV footage showed that thick main belt armour to be intact. The American expedition's final conclusions was the direct cause of sinking was due to scuttling.sabotage of engine-room valves by her crew, as claimed by German survivors.
there have been at least 4 dives on bis most of the hull is in mud up to the waterline so most torp damage not visible, the other dives come to a dif conclusions there are 3 hits on the 12.9" belt all penetrate there are far more on the 8.5"upper belt the none penetrating hits come from 8"cruiser guns,6"+5.25" battleship secondery guns these can not pen the heavy armour but did damage fire control and silence the 5.9" secondery guns+kill alot of the crew
The Hood did have good side armor, but the horizontal surfaces (decks, etc.) were not well protected. The reason is that when the Hood was built, naval guns applied direct fire instead of the high-trajectory shots that came from the guns of the Bismarck.
I think that all free people in Europe ( I m from Luxembourg) and in the entire world should be grateful that Churchill didnt aknowledge Hitlers Insane plan, and the enormous efforts done by the british civilians during that summer of 1940
Without Britain having protected the last peace of free European soil there would have been no D-Day, the Germans would have invaded Russia with their entire Army and would have so maybee destroyed the red Army. And then just think of all the Jews which were killed.
Duing the war in 4 years there were killed 6 million jews, so just imagine what would have happened if Hitler wouldnt had anyone to stop him!!!!!
I think, that in Hitlers book, Mein Kampf, he wrote something about that Germans and Britains would be the "Over- Humans" ( sry for the bad translation), and so he was terribily dissapointed that Britain helped, along with France,Poland, after Hitler had invaded it.
There's a fair fight for you...It took how many submarines and battleships to sink a disabled Bismarck!!?? Too bad because Germany wanted England as an ally not an enemy, but that idiot Churchill wanted war.
here we go another NAZI, Hitler started the WAR, Britain was never going to align with That Turd, Germany had shown that they were war like in the 1st World war, Hitler was a HATER, I guess LIKE YOU RETARD!
Swearing aside, it was Chamberlain who declared war on Germany, not Churchill :P.
Besides, the Kriegsmarine was inferior to the Royal Navy throughout the war. The Bismark and Tirpitz were the only challenges to that, whereas the U Boats were really more of a threat to supplies shipping.
Chamberlain also Claimed to hold in his hand a Piece of Paper from HITLER stating Peace...so if he did declare war, it was a Correction to a GRAVE MISTAKE!!!
Chamberlain believed that Germany had been badly treated by the Allies after it was defeated in the First World War. He therefore thought that the German government had genuine grievances and that these needed to be addressed. He also thought that by agreeing to some of the demands being made by Adolf Hitler of Germany and Benito Mussolini of Italy, he could avoid a European war.
In March, 1939, the German Army seized the rest of Czechoslovakia. In taking this action Adolf Hitler had broken the Munich Agreement. Chamberlain now realized that Hitler could not be trusted and his appeasement policy now came to an end. After the invasion of Poland, Chamberlain was forced to declare war on Germany.
The union of Germany and Austria (Anschluss) had been specifically forbidden by the Treaty of Versailles. Some members of the House of Commons, including Anthony Eden and Winston Churchill, now called on Chamberlain to take action against Adolf Hitler and his Nazi government.
Well, the Germans kind of did have genuine greivances that needed to be addressed. The Treaty of Versailles was far, far too harsh. I especially love how it forced Germany to take sole responsibility for the war, completely ignoring Austria's actions. The problem was that Hitler was a greedy, deluded asshole. He wanted things Germany didn't deserve, and wasn't going to stop being a jackass until he got them.
brilliant video by the way, one of my favourite songs :) now i'm replying to a lot of peoples comments here so it may get confusing and I apologise. And sorry it's so long, I got carried away...
While Canada's part was very big (think Dieppe) the United States put in one of the biggest actions against Hitler (almost definatly saving the war in the west), I don't say biggest because of Russia steamrolling them from the east. The British DID rescue survivors but had to pull out because U-boats WERE dispatched and we rescued for more from Bismarck than the 3 hands who survived HMS Hood so yes, very noble
to say these were people who were trying to kill them :) and the guy who says the chase of Bismarck was hardly fair, the sinking of Hood definatly wasn't fair, Bismarck was a battleship, heavily armed and armoured outranging and outgunning Hood, Hood was a cruiser with a little more armour slapped on her, not a battleship, and Prince of Wales was dispatched with painters onboard, not exactly war ready or a fair fight against the behemoth Bismarck, so think before you speak 'boats',
all the degrees in the world don't stop your judgement being clouded. Germany viewed us as culture carriers rather than Aryans so while we weren't untermentien (bad spelling, sorry) we weren't their favourite people either, the note Hitler signed was deliberately misleading to his want for peace, it was only during the war when we started winning in Africa thanks to Montgomery (whoops wrong again with ur facts 'boats' :P) that Hitler wanted peace and then only to lessen things up
in the hopes that once we'd saved our empire we'd let the rest of the world fall, how wrong he was. Hess' travelling to Britain wasn't backed by Hitler and is believed to have been him mistaking something Hitler said. Chamberlain didn't really make a mistake by suing for peace, Germany wanted war because they were traditionally militaristic and believed they had been stabbed in the back due to propaganda from the first world war, the rest of the world were exhausted and didn't want war,
Chamberlain heading for it would have been a mistake, loosing him his office,
tho he did start rearming once Hitler became more aggressive. Early on, Mussolini was a block on Hitler and it was hoped this would carry on, that's why we appeased him, were it not for conflicting messages over Abyssinia by the League of Nations he may have stayed that way.
Churchill was most possibly the best Prime minister Britain has ever seen, but early on he was more bothered with communism than fascism, and when he started to speak out against national socialism, his 'wilderness years' in parliament and his being a scapegoat for Gallipoli in the first world war worked against him meaning he wasn't listened to and only really got the pm job (and thank god he did:)
because Lord Halifax was ill when the debates and choosing happened. I hope this clears a few things up, let me know if I made any mistakes or got a bit confusing.
Love the videos phonepkh keep them up :) reeeeaaaaalllllllly sorry about the length :(
Churchill was more like the right man for that particular job, I'd say. He was a bit more of an army type man than a politician and for the job as PM in ww2, he was the best choice, no doubt. But I don't think he'd be eighter better nore worse than any other chap in peacetime

USS New York, Idaho,Texas,Misissippi,Arkansa,New Mexico...and the brand new North Carolina, Washington, Massechussets, and South Dakota.
Thats 6 to one even without our new ones.

inacuracies may be . this is for the film, not Gospel historic fact as I am sure many things are different,

seems logical they had other places, but from LONDON came the Orders right?

Reader Digest? few lucky shots, stopped by canvas WW1 byplane met the bottom join tirpitz, eugen etc... Facts? see "combinedfleet baddest keepers" on google

I Love the CHOURS!!! "Whatever you do...sink the Bismark! Whatever the cost we must pound this Deutch Mark" That's awesome. In even better with churchil behind the words. I also love with the serious voice"...900 meteric tons..." that's awesome!
drumraider 2 years ago 4
You mean 50900 metric tons!
HelmutVillam 2 years ago
yeah! man this song is awesome!!!!!!!! although the number changes when they sink it at the beginning it's 21 thousand 900 meteric tons, but when they sink it it's 50,900 meteric tons...weird. still it's awesome!
drumraider 2 years ago
if you see in the video it is a ship hull, without the added tons of guns...then at the end of the song She is fully complimented , so the weight is different..
phonepkh 2 years ago
it is "41, thousand...700 metric tons"
then 50 thousand, so it is not too weird I think!

Hey phonekph, no offence meant to you.
You've put together a good vid.
Mancastrian 3 years ago
ok sorry if I took that the wrong way,

Anyone noticed anything strange about the film ?
2:03 Hood and PoW shown (correctly), on Bismarck's PORT quarter.
2:13 Hood (model) shown with guns trained to PORT!
2:19 Film 'Admiral Holland' gives order for 20 degree turn to STARBOARD! (Hood turned to port, to bring all guns to bear)
2:25 Hood clearly shown blowing up, heading from right to left of screen, as though shot from, and lying to Bismarck's PORT side.
Sack the Scriptwriter and Continuity Editor, or what ? LOL
Mancastrian 3 years ago
have at it, I have done it, you improve it
Moved on, these were Experiments in song/movie condensing and see if we could.
the images are incidentals to give the Music a Visual effect as well as a Musical piece on the subject. listen to the song without pictures and then you edit it!
correct what we did, it is easy you see what it needs, go for it, I think it would be a great revamp of an Idea Skeleton, with a new body

Well Punks, Do you feel lucky ?

the germans almost always claim that ships sunk are scuttled its pure propaganda, for example the battlecruiser lutzow sank at the battle of jutland in 1916 due to flooding caused by shell fire was abandoned and then torpedoed so it could be claimed that the ship was scuttled, at the time the bow was completly submerged up to the guns and the props out of the water scuttling only speeds up the sinking of an already sinking ship

the bismark was not the best battleship ever the brit vangard was superior the us iowa also and the jap yamato far superior, the bis was 50000t loaded but compared the the smaller treaty compliant north carolina and kgv you get very little for the extra size,nc 9 16" guns 12"belt armour 27 knots kgv 10 14" guns 15" belt 28.5k bis 8 15"guns 12.9to8.5" belt 29knots.the us ships 16" guns fire 2700lb super heavy shells bismarks guns 1750lb the kgv had a far superior armour belt.

The reason is that when the Hood was built, naval guns applied direct fire instead of the high-trajectory shots that came from the guns of the Bismarck.
darrickducky1984 4 years ago
I think that all free people in Europe ( I m from Luxembourg) and in the entire world should be grateful that Churchill didnt aknowledge Hitlers Insane plan, and the enormous efforts done by the british civilians during that summer of 1940
SSDVL 4 years ago
well said!!!
phonepkh 4 years ago
Without Britain having protected the last peace of free European soil there would have been no D-Day, the Germans would have invaded Russia with their entire Army and would have so maybee destroyed the red Army. And then just think of all the Jews which were killed.
Duing the war in 4 years there were killed 6 million jews, so just imagine what would have happened if Hitler wouldnt had anyone to stop him!!!!!
SSDVL 4 years ago
Just another of the insane calculations of Hitler, as I think it is obvious to everyone that no one would be willing to make peace with Hitler.
And to blame Churchill for being an Idiot because he didnt wanted to stop the war is quite a stupid theory.
SSDVL 4 years ago
I think, that in Hitlers book, Mein Kampf, he wrote something about that Germans and Britains would be the "Over- Humans" ( sry for the bad translation), and so he was terribily dissapointed that Britain helped, along with France,Poland, after Hitler had invaded it.
SSDVL 4 years ago
There's a fair fight for you...It took how many submarines and battleships to sink a disabled Bismarck!!?? Too bad because Germany wanted England as an ally not an enemy, but that idiot Churchill wanted war.

Swearing aside, it was Chamberlain who declared war on Germany, not Churchill :P.
Besides, the Kriegsmarine was inferior to the Royal Navy throughout the war. The Bismark and Tirpitz were the only challenges to that, whereas the U Boats were really more of a threat to supplies shipping.
grayn01 4 years ago
That was in reply to deg050607 lol :)
grayn01 4 years ago
Never said Churchill started the War,
Chamberlain also Claimed to hold in his hand a Piece of Paper from HITLER stating Peace...so if he did declare war, it was a Correction to a GRAVE MISTAKE!!!
He Made TRUSTING A NAZI TWIT!!!
phonepkh 4 years ago
Chamberlain believed that Germany had been badly treated by the Allies after it was defeated in the First World War. He therefore thought that the German government had genuine grievances and that these needed to be addressed. He also thought that by agreeing to some of the demands being made by Adolf Hitler of Germany and Benito Mussolini of Italy, he could avoid a European war.
phonepkh 4 years ago
In March, 1939, the German Army seized the rest of Czechoslovakia. In taking this action Adolf Hitler had broken the Munich Agreement. Chamberlain now realized that Hitler could not be trusted and his appeasement policy now came to an end. After the invasion of Poland, Chamberlain was forced to declare war on Germany.
phonepkh 4 years ago
The union of Germany and Austria (Anschluss) had been specifically forbidden by the Treaty of Versailles. Some members of the House of Commons, including Anthony Eden and Winston Churchill, now called on Chamberlain to take action against Adolf Hitler and his Nazi government.
phonepkh 4 years ago
Well, the Germans kind of did have genuine greivances that needed to be addressed. The Treaty of Versailles was far, far too harsh. I especially love how it forced Germany to take sole responsibility for the war, completely ignoring Austria's actions. The problem was that Hitler was a greedy, deluded asshole. He wanted things Germany didn't deserve, and wasn't going to stop being a jackass until he got them.

chrisnoddy13 4 years ago
While Canada's part was very big (think Dieppe) the United States put in one of the biggest actions against Hitler (almost definatly saving the war in the west), I don't say biggest because of Russia steamrolling them from the east. The British DID rescue survivors but had to pull out because U-boats WERE dispatched and we rescued for more from Bismarck than the 3 hands who survived HMS Hood so yes, very noble
chrisnoddy13 4 years ago
to say these were people who were trying to kill them :) and the guy who says the chase of Bismarck was hardly fair, the sinking of Hood definatly wasn't fair, Bismarck was a battleship, heavily armed and armoured outranging and outgunning Hood, Hood was a cruiser with a little more armour slapped on her, not a battleship, and Prince of Wales was dispatched with painters onboard, not exactly war ready or a fair fight against the behemoth Bismarck, so think before you speak 'boats',
chrisnoddy13 4 years ago
all the degrees in the world don't stop your judgement being clouded. Germany viewed us as culture carriers rather than Aryans so while we weren't untermentien (bad spelling, sorry) we weren't their favourite people either, the note Hitler signed was deliberately misleading to his want for peace, it was only during the war when we started winning in Africa thanks to Montgomery (whoops wrong again with ur facts 'boats' :P) that Hitler wanted peace and then only to lessen things up
chrisnoddy13 4 years ago
in the hopes that once we'd saved our empire we'd let the rest of the world fall, how wrong he was. Hess' travelling to Britain wasn't backed by Hitler and is believed to have been him mistaking something Hitler said. Chamberlain didn't really make a mistake by suing for peace, Germany wanted war because they were traditionally militaristic and believed they had been stabbed in the back due to propaganda from the first world war, the rest of the world were exhausted and didn't want war,
chrisnoddy13 4 years ago
Chamberlain heading for it would have been a mistake, loosing him his office,
tho he did start rearming once Hitler became more aggressive. Early on, Mussolini was a block on Hitler and it was hoped this would carry on, that's why we appeased him, were it not for conflicting messages over Abyssinia by the League of Nations he may have stayed that way.
chrisnoddy13 4 years ago
Churchill was most possibly the best Prime minister Britain has ever seen, but early on he was more bothered with communism than fascism, and when he started to speak out against national socialism, his 'wilderness years' in parliament and his being a scapegoat for Gallipoli in the first world war worked against him meaning he wasn't listened to and only really got the pm job (and thank god he did:)
chrisnoddy13 4 years ago
because Lord Halifax was ill when the debates and choosing happened. I hope this clears a few things up, let me know if I made any mistakes or got a bit confusing.
Love the videos phonepkh keep them up :) reeeeaaaaalllllllly sorry about the length :(
chrisnoddy13 4 years ago
Churchill was more like the right man for that particular job, I'd say. He was a bit more of an army type man than a politician and for the job as PM in ww2, he was the best choice, no doubt. But I don't think he'd be eighter better nore worse than any other chap in peacetime
