  • Gee, Mrs Hargreaves is like a female version of Ebenezer Scrooge.

  • Lol, "Why Not Take All of Me"! I first heard this song on the Muppet Show. XD And Jim Henson's Creature Shop made the.. well.. creatures! I wonder if Jim asked to put the song in as kind of a song cameo type thing.

  • This is so much better than Tim Burton's ...It seems he never even read the book when he was making it.

  • Tim Burton's version is shit compared to this. Even he, being the master he is, couldn't make it more bizarre

  • Thanks for this quietly very fine movie, with a very different take ineed on and around Lewis Carroll and 'Alice.' Very unsettling, and also lovely. Part of my wanting to find this includes the gorgeous music with the credits at the end.

  • thumbs up if u thought it was nightmare on elm street

  • It's also amazing how infinitely more compelling these physical puppets (or muppets, I should say) are to the CGI menagerie used in Burton's rather overworked film.

  • Thank you for posting this little gem. A fascinating film, and as fan of Ian Holm, it is one of his most interesting and ambiguous roles.

  • @darkprose It made me want to die at the end...He's so sad and shit. Definitely a great actor but such a sad character for me...

  • Thank-you for this share...

I had never seen this before last night and enjoyed it very much : )

  • I wonder why everyone tries to take macabre takes on Alice in Wonderland? Seriously, why? It was originally made for children, yet there are countless dark takes on it...

  • @Tatsumiko Alice Carroll's story wasn't originally made for just children, there is so much more to his stories, and for you to say that the alice stories are not dark, is for you to say you indulge in ignorance.

  • @Tatsumiko There are two completely different versions of 'Alice' by the same author. The first is "Through the looking glass, or Alice's adventures in wonderland." that is dark, bizarre and creepy. Carroll later re-wrote a version far less scary for children, "Alice in Wonderland." The same is true of James Barry's "Peter Pan." Peter Pan in Kensington gardens, sad, dar, tragic even. Barry's second version, "Peter Pan" is for children.

  • @MuseDuCafe hm... *checks shelf* Yep, I have the kid's version. oooh Dark Peter Pan huh? That;s sounds good too :D I kinda wanna read the darker versions of Alice and Peter Pan now :P

  • @MuseDuCafe I've read Through the Looking Glass, I thought it was a sequel more than anything else. I'm yet to have read Peter Pan in Kensington Garden, however, and actually want to read it now. That is.. if I can find a bookstore anywhere.. o.O Dang kindles..

  • @MakiLotus In each case, the 'dark' one was first. If you're flush and buying, look for the 'annotated Alice' - it is fascinating. In through the looking glass, there are a lot of math games going on, and Each chapter is also a plotted move of Alice, as pawn, making her way across the Chessboard to ... the Red Queen.

  • has anyone got the Wednesday Play he did starring Deborah Watling as Alice, or for that matter Barry Letts' Alice ?

  • If I was that young woman I would tell Alice to fuck off

  • I like the music in the intro.

  • if those are supposed to be the nice gryffin and mock turtle i have read and seen other movies on,,,,,,,, i realy do not want to see the red queen in action

  • Strange as it may sound, this is probably the only Gryphon in any "Alice" adaptation that is even remotely similar to how he is in the book.

  • Wow memories galore today

  • oh hey, here are all the people now who saw alice in wonderland recently. great.

  • Someone has any subtitles? any language...

  • Oh my God...i cant believe this movie is here. I´ve been looking for this forever !

Thank you so much for posting it !!!

    And yes...Tim Burton´s version was a desilusion !

  • tim burton's massacre of alice in wonderland is a piece of shit

  • @sheepybabe that´s what you thnik

  • this brings me chills again,so spooky

  • Thank you

  • I actually felt much more transcended by tghis film than Tim Burton's Alice. this felt more pure and mysterious than the commercial beautiful efx remake

  • To me Coral Browne will always be Vera Charles from Auntie Mame! Love that lady!

  • Thank you so much for posting! I wish Henson had made an all puppet version of Alice in Wonderland!

  • this is such an excellent film, and yet so many haven't seen it. Thank you for posting so I may enlighten the unfortunates.

I love the fact that all the wonderland characters have aged, just as alice.

    Very dark, fascinating!

  • Oh no! Someone has uploaded Dreamchild onto YouTube! And I had things to do today too! Oh well......All this speculation about Lewis Carroll being a paedophile etc, the truth is far more grey than we would like to say. It is possible to have feelings that are never acted on or even fully realised by the person concerned. Through his work he attained a joyeous release that is to our ultimate creative benefit.

  • @BelatedCommiseration Thanks for saying that. I agree with your statement. There is a difference between being and doing. Someone can have feeling or attraction toward a child and never have any intentions on acting upon those feelings. So, in my opinion, someone could BE a pedophile but nut BE a child molester, etc.

  • @iamthenilotic Especially since then I have been doing a bit of research and am reading a book called 'In the Shadow of Dreamchild' by Karoline Leach in which she says Charles Dodgeson might have actually been a bit of a womaniser! His diaries were changed and destroyed by his nephew Stuart Collingwood to make it look as if Carroll was the 'eternal child' and his removal of some the diary parts left this gap which has since been filled by the frustrated pedophile thing...so there you go! (-;

  • @BelatedCommiseration

The photos of Dodgson when he wrote the Alice stories were seriously handsome and macho-looking. If appearances count for anything, he certainly did not look like a man terrified of adult women and a pathetic pedophile.

  • Great film!!

  • @mortenalfredhoirup It wasn't supposed to be about the books, it was based on the life of the girl who inspired them.

  • @mortenalfredhoirup ... Sorry... the reply was meant for XbrutalXtruthX.

    Sorry.

  • You must admit, at least this had awesome puppets. And for the period-scenes, I thought those were really well pulled off.

  • @XbrutalXtruthX

theres a lot more evidence that lewis carroll was a pedophile than an opiate. and even the idea of him as a pedophile is more rumor and speculation. what's brilliant about this film is it explores that possibility

  • @XbrutalXtruthX Idiot. Opiate is the drug itself, not the drug user.

  • @jeff98211 correction, faggot. OPIUM is the drug. Opiate would be the user. do more drugs and you'll learn something about them.

  • @XbrutalXtruthX Opiate is a class of drug; opium is the specific drug

  • @XbrutalXtruthX Idiot. Go to any dictionary website and key in opiate, then get back to me. You are by far the biggest moron I've come across in a long while

  • thanks for posting this! excellent film!

  • Its a crying shame that this is the only movie of Alice which has the Mock Turtle and the griffin scene in it, its my favorite scene in the book.

I agree with Wolpintv this is by far the creepiest and darkest of the Alice movies I remember being quite freaked out when they did the scene with the Hatter and Marsh Hare

  • Are you kidding?! There are a lot movie versions with the Mock Turtle and the gryphon/griffin in it!!!!!!!!! For example Gene Wilder in the 1999 tv movie version, or the 1933 version, the 1985 tv version and so on, and so on...

There are about 50 television and cinema adaptions of "Alice"- and a lot of them have this scene from the book in it!!! You should watch them!!!! ;-)

  • For my money, this is bar none the creepiest take on the "Wonderland" characters. Thanks for posting this, now I can spread the Nightmare Fuel around!

  • I am very interested in learning more about Lewis Carroll, thank you also for posting this film! I look forward to watching it!

  • Thank you for posting this, I've been looking everywhere for this film. Thanks again!
