  • Damn, it didn't kill your reverb! Awesome! Perfect tone, even with an overdrive turned on. What if you plug all those amps at the same time? How does it work?

  • @heliobluesrock I can only use 1 amp at a time unless I use a splitter. As long as the noise gate comes BEFORE the effects, the gate will shut whenever you set it to but the effects are after the gate so they will trail off and decay naturally. If you put the gate last though, you get a hard mute on the signal cut off when the gate shuts which doesn't really sound right.

  • what's the difference between the regular decimator and the G string?

  • @timesman14 g string has 2 loops. one for the guitar/main input and one for the fx loop.

  • @FastRedPonyCar so like the boss NS2 already had?

  • @hauntingthegrave not exactly. the NS2 doesn't really have a dedicated path for the amp's fx loop. I think the NS2's loop is more for noisy pedals rather than preamp noise from the amp which is what the ISP's main goal is.

  • oh sweetballs i got the same od pedal infront of my 6505. sounds like thunder! I have an isp decimator standard but now I want to sell it and get a isp d g string. i use the isp decimator infron of my amp and it makes a very loud hissing noise

  • What a delicious review. Thanks for getting the details clear. I've searched a good while for an in depth explanation. Spot On!!

  • Can I hook an ISP G String if I'm using a TC Nova System in my blackstar HT 40 loop?

    If yes how ?

  • @domdauphin yeah you basically treat the nova system like a reverb or delay pedal and run it per the instruction manual and make sure you put the ISP BEFORE the nova or else when the gate closes, it will be an abrupt cut off on the reverb or delay and that sounds weird.

  • G-String lol

  • Hey maybe you could help me out. Right now my set up is guitar - tube screamer - isp g string - Boss tuner - amp imput. From decimator out to return in f/x loop and from send to decimator in. With ISP on it takes out a lot of volume and I have to turn it up just to get what would equal about 1/3 volume w/o ISP. Should I even connect the ISP to f/x loop if I don't have pedals using it? Any suggestions you can give would be greatly appreciated

  • @insomniac8490 best suggestion I can say is to check the manual and all the various routing diagrams they offer.

  • You sold me. Thanks for posting.

  • what a crappy review

  • @clowncastration crappy enough that several people have bought one after watching it.

  • @FastRedPonyCar dude i just bought one but this video is still a peice of shit

  • @clowncastration well that's like... your opinion man

  • G string hs 2 input & output?

To amp's input and amp's effect loop?

    Very nice

I am thinking to buy this.

  • @telecasum41 yeah this means that you can set the gate up agressively but it won't choke out the clean channel like a single path noise gate would do. the gstring is really smart in knowing when to shut the gate and when to leave it open.

  • this is probably one of the best reviews/demonstrations ive seen.

also, you sir, have oodles and oodles of money.

  • @BenBelman159 lol I wish. I used to gig a lot so the gig money paid for the gear but we've stopped gigging for a while so per the wife's rules, I have to sell gear to buy gear. :(

  • Hey great review, I was wondering if you could help me out. I have been having tons of feedback problems and was at odds with what to buy to fix the problem. I'm either looking at the ISP Decimator or the ISP Decimator G-string, and i was wondering if you could tell me the difference between these two. I don't have a lot of money, but ill pay the extra cash if I need to. Thanks in advance

  • @MetricEx I would go with the Gstring because it has 2 loops for noise reduction. both input noise like a noisy pickup or something and a preamp (fx loop) reduction for preamp noise such as a noisy preamp tube or what not.

  • Thanks for all of the reviews, man! It is much appreciated!

  • Hey!!! I just bought one of these pedals and it's truly awesome. I have a hotrod Marshall JMP 100w Super Lead Plexi and pedals such as : EVH Flanger, BOSS DD-3 Digital Delay, MXR Phase 90(R28 Modded) and a Digitech RV-7 Stereo Reverb and the Decimator set on about -28db(12 o'clock) and it doesn't cut anything out, even when I turn the guitar vol down. Great pedal for Van Halen style players.

  • i have a problem with my amp... i get a humming buzzing noise even without playing...i read it could be a grounding issue any suggestions... i used a monster plug in power conditioner for 40 dollars....reduced noise by 30 percent i'd say.....thanx good job on all these videos

  • @aroi70 it could be dirty power. I had that in my old apartment (which was a new building). the power line to my studio area was on the same line as the AC units. Whenever an AC unit kicked on, the amp got really noisy. I bought a furman PL2-Plus power conditioner and that fixed it.

I think everyone needs one of those anyways. protect your gear from power surges. if you get one make SURE it's the kind that actually filters the power rather than the cheaper ones that are just power strips

  • What if I don't have an effects loop on my amp, can I put a reverb pedal "after" the Noise Decimator and still have the nice reverb, without cutting the reverb off?

  • @flashy5150 yeah as long as your effects come after the decimator there won't be a hard cut in the sound.

  • Hmm... What's the difference between this and the Normal ISP Decimator Noise Reduction?.

  • @BlackThunderbolt2971 Gstring has 2 loops. one for the guitar/main input to the front of the amp and another for the fx loop.

  • @FastRedPonyCar What about from gating the noise itself. Are both pretty much the same?. Cuz I use the ISP decimator and it can do most of the stuff u have showed... What I love is it gates sustained notes very smoothly but for those staccato notes, it immediately when muted . Awesome device. Easily the best noise gate ever made.

  • @BlackThunderbolt2971 yeah that's how it is. the g-string though can be helpful for noisy preamps (using NOS tubes for high gain) etc.

  • @FastRedPonyCar I see. So It can even gate everything on the amp. Thats cool... So basically the Normal Decimator is a more straight forward and cheaper version of the G string. The gating is exactly the same but unlike the G string, it cant gate anything on the amp itself. Tnx for the info man...

  • Hey man, I saw your video and I'm really interested in buying this pedal, however my amp (jcm 800 from 1983) doesn't have an fx loop. So I wonder how I should use in a chain of pedals, my pedal in current order are: guitar -> zw wah -> rotovibe -> sd-1 -> stereo chorus -> amp input.

    I was thinking using the g string this way guitar -> guitar in g string -> guitar out g string -> wah -> rotovibe-> sd-1 -> dec in g string-> dec out g string -> chorus -> amp input.

    Is that correct?

  • @PEMAMETAL no if you're using the input only, I don't think you would use the loop in/out on the decimator. I'm not sure though. The owner manual has all the various routing options diagramed out for you.

honestly though, I would put the money towards getting an fx loop modded into the amp. it's pretty straight forward for the 800's and would not only give you two true loops for the decimator to use, any time based effects like reverb/chorus/delay/etc will sound much better after the preamp.

  • what's the diference between this and the Boss NS-2 noise suppressor? besides...u just gotta roll of the volume on your guitar...

  • @wyldefan716 s string monitors noise both in the amp's fx loop (like from noisy preamp tubes) as well as anything in front of the amp (noisy pickups, pedals, etc)

  • @FastRedPonyCar so roll off the volume right?

  • @wyldefan716 not unless you're using an obscene amount of gain. the idea of having 2 separate signals that it monitors is that it has better control over the gate shut off so you don't need to use the volume knob or a volume pedal to help it out.

  • hi, did you need to adjust the threshold knob? because i heard that the decimator can track your guitar signal or sort of that..

  • @derzasekolahdidd yeah you have to set the threshold knob accordingly based on how much gain you're using and what sort of tolerance your setup will have for feedback. in other words, you set it to where you like it and it makes the least impact on the sound/sustain.

  • Are you running it after your OD pedals or before Maybe I missed it if you said it. I know the manual says to put it at the end of the chain. I run a ns2 into a maxon od808 into a ibanez ts9dx then to my 6505+, and get all the noise and hum of course. I really want to get one of these or the regulator Decimator. Awesome vid to man.

    thanx man

  • @ejers4133 very last pedal in the input chain and the first pedal in the fx loop. You have to set it early in the fx loop because if not, when the gate shuts, it'll kill any tail you may have on reverb or delay and it's a hard sound cut off that sounds weird. setting it before effects means the signal will get cut when the gate closes but the effects can trail off naturally.

  • I have this pedal, and am having trouble with what seems to be a ground loop when the "guitar in" and "dec in" are too far apart on my chain. Did you have this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?

  • @RunawayThumbtack Not sure man. I don't use a whole lot of effects with my setup. ISP has really good customer service from what I've heard. I'd give em a call to see what they can do.

  • To increase sustain do you recommend putting a boost in front of the guitar in?

  • @ChaserHUN yeah that's one way to increase sustain.

  • Misha Mansoor of Periphery uses a Keely Compressor to counter the thing at 5:04 that he was talking about.

  • "and if you watch"...*ohhh that's nice*. 4:44-4:46

  • Who the F##k is this guy with all that gear?

  • Great review of this pedal! I'm getting a Splawn Quick Rod, thinking about adding this pedal. I'm also looking at getting a TC G system, have you had experience with that? Any comments, good or bad? Thanks!

  • @JayDeeSG Gsystem is good but honestly, if it were my money, I'd get a used AxeFX and use that with a midi board to control effects. The AxeFX effects are so much better, the editing software is robust and for recording, the amp sims are virtually unbeatable. Now that the AxeFX II is out, everyone is dumping their first gen models to get the new ones so prices on them are low.

  • @FastRedPonyCar It's the floorboard setup that attracts me to the G system. I don't have or really want to go down the road of rack effects.

  • @JayDeeSG the problem though is that from what I've heard out of the G-system is that it's effects are not much (if any) different from the Nova system or Gmajor which both cost a fraction of the price. The main difference I see with the G-system is really only the ability to run it in a 4 cable setup method.

  • @FastRedPonyCar That's correct and that's my dilemma...It can also take the role of being the amps channel switching controller and having the 4 CM would allow the use of the GS's wah before the preamp. I've looked at the Nova System too. It looks fairly suited to my effects needs, have you used it alot with the Splawn? If you have any experience with it in the effects loop, I'd love to hear your take on it.

  • @FastRedPonyCar (part II) I know the Nova System would probably be fine for my needs, I guess I am engrossed with the idea of the setup too. With the GS I could get a TRS snake and have one large cable from the floorboard to the amp with the benefits of front end and effects loop effects. With the Nova System, I'd still need to run cables from preamp effects like wah and dirt to amps front while also running cables for the effects loop to Nova System. If you have any advice on that let me know.

  • @JayDeeSG the gsystem (and nova) require the big 3 prong power cord which I'm not sure if the pedal snake cable accommodates? Anyways, splawn loop is excellent and won't be any problem. Never tried channel switching with anything besides the splawn switch... since it uses 2 separate footswitch jacks, I woudln't know how to run the Gsystem to switch that.

  • @FastRedPonyCar The power cabling shouldn't be an issue. The GS can handle multiple channel switching duties. I've talked to a fellow who uses a Nitro with his GS and swears by it...Like you said though, it's a lot of money just to have channel switching in one unit when the Nova System can do about everything except channel switch.

  • hun-hun,g string......

  • I own this pedal. It does nothing. It's either DOA, or it's bullshit.

I should have saved the $200 and bought a decent volume pedal.

  • @BritaniaRuleAgain try calling their support line. mine works great so I know it can work. If the LED lights up, double check your cable routing. one wrong cable run can render it either mute or won't work.

  • @BritaniaRuleAgain try calling their support line. mine works great so I know it can work. If the LED lights up, double check your cable routing. one wrong cable run can render it either mute or won't work.

  • Hell yeah, bro! I'm totally buying that now!

  • I'm not having issues with feedback just yet, but my amp is hissing and humming from gain issues. Is this the pedal I'm looking for?

  • I'm really thinking of buying this pedal i have a peavey valve king with a boss overdrive as boos tand was wondering if this noise gate would kill some of the noise while im actually playing because i can hear it , thanks

  • @jpunch noise while you're actually playing would indicate maybe a bad preamp tube, cable or something with the guitar like a noisy pickup or bad pot/jack,etc. either that or maybe just using too much gain. this only works when you're not playing.

  • great demo .... thanks

  • that look at 4:28 hahaha

  • Hi, isp decimator has 4 ports and wants to be with my engl fireball 60 and connect to Boss GT 8 4 cable method as I need to insert into the effects loop ISP, Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad english.

  • @eiohd It should work fine with the fireball.

  • Hello! Can you please tell me if I can use G-string without loop, just like usual decimator? Because my loop died and I won't able to use it for a while.

    Thanx

  • @147147Nick I think you can. the manual shows several ways of running the unit.

  • nice camera dude lol

  • what is the difference between the standard version compared to the G string model?

  • @EvoPogo read through the comments. I think a few guys already asked this.

  • kinda off topic, i know...

    is that a JPX?

  • @wrona003 close. mystic dream jp6. the lighting doesn't really allow the different colors to show up well.

  • @FastRedPonyCar lol, i knew something was wrong! haha

btw, sorry to bother, but, whats the difference between the normal decimator and the g string?

  • @wrona003 the gstring has an extra input/output that listens to preamp noise (noisy tubes, hiss from lots of gain, etc) and will regulate noise based on that. The beauty of it is that it doesn't choke down the clean channel. The standard ISP and boss NS only use the guitar's input to regulate when to close the gate so while you can set it to work great on a high gain channel, it will kill tons of sustain on the clean channel.

  • Can I use as well if I have no fx loop in my amp? Nice gear you have there... I mean all of your gear xD

  • @pablohammerfall yep. you simply would either (not sure on this) either run a patch cable from the fx loop in/out on the pedal itself or simply not hook it up at all but I could be wrong on that. It tells you what to do with various routing setups in the user manual though...and ISP's tech support is really good from what I've heard.

  • @FastRedPonyCar thanks man!

  • nice demo, man. i might need to upgrade my decimator to a g-string version.

  • I've been looking all over the place to get a hold of one of these... Could you maybe tell me which (online) store you got it from? Because these Belgian noobstores don't seem to have good quality merchandise *sigh*

  • @PrefrontaL666CorteX ah so you're not in the US? hmm.. maybe find someone on ebay with one that will ship international? You may also want to contact ISP's customer support and see if they have an international dealer.

  • @FastRedPonyCar Gonna check out a few stores first tomorrow. If I can't find it I'll try some international shipping company or the customer support. Thanks alot for the info man! - *Subbed*

  • @PrefrontaL666CorteX thanks man.. good luck with your search. it'll be worth any hassle you may have to endure to get your hands on one. They really are THAT good!

  • @PrefrontaL666CorteX I bought mine at Jacky Claes in Hasselt last week. Maybe that helps?

  • @martijnvanloffelt It certainly does ;-) Tijd voor een kleine roadtrip xD

  • @PrefrontaL666CorteX Graag gedaan... Rock on.

  • Nice demo. Did you hit the lotto?

  • @mikkwik I wish!

  • Thanks

  • I just picked up one of these today and I am having the hardest time setting it up. Would you be so kind as to explaining how you were able t run your guitar through the pedal and run it through your fx loop?

  • @kilgore004 check the owners manual. I had to look at it too. there are several ways to run it so you have to look at the diagrams and decide what method is best for you.

  • Whats the difference between the decimator Gstring and the regular decimator?

  • @lespaulman1 the gstring monitors for both preamp noise in the fx loop (bad tubes, etc) and for noise in the front of the amp like noisy pickups and bad cables.

  • @FastRedPonyCar so what does the regular decimator monitor? Ive got an 80's jcm 800 and since it doesnt have an Fx loop, would I be better off just getting the regular decimator?

  • @lespaulman1 yeah it goes in front of the amp. it should work perfectly fine since you're not using a clean channel. The Gstring unit is great for 2 channel amps because even with the gate set pretty high, it doesn't choke down the sustain of the clean channel.

  • how are you gonna bring all those stuff when you go jam?

or are you just playing alone in your room?

  • @ayawlex I only use the JHS klon, ISP and TC nova system live.

The rest of the stuff just stays at home. I typically use either the Splawn or the bogner live and whichever one I don't use is back stage for backup in case the other fails.

  • 3:55 Chorus? Oh wait, he's just out of tune... lawl

  • Mmm great gear and a great sound you got there. Yummy. :D

  • Great review!

  • My decimator doesn't have anyproblems. ISP told me to cut the shields on the cable end wich goes to dec in and dec out. Problem solved, no extra noise when bypassed.

  • /watch?v=6obLH9kgarc

I tried it out to put a metal muff in to the loop of the decimator. And theres is no nasty buzzing when the metal muff is turned on and the decimator is turned off. So I think than the decimator is working correctly?

  • /watch?v=iKxzgkH9pW0&feature=channel_video_title

Here is a video. First you can hear how the amp sounds with the decimator not plugged in, and than how it sounds when it is plugged in.

  • I checked my cables one by one, they are all good. If I unplug the decimator from the fx loop the bigger noise is gone, but if I plug it in it's there, if I turn it on I gets rid of it with no problem. I'm using a peavey valveking 212 by the way.

  • @ChaserHUN i'd try a replacement pedal then.

  • @FastRedPonyCar

Well, thats not that easy. I live in hungary, and had to buy it from the US to get one. I waited almost 2 weeks for it to arrive. The post services are not cheap as well.

  • The one insdie is a fresh 9V battery, it's the same with a battery and an adapter. But actually when engaged it silences it, and when ther decimator is in the cahin the amp sounds louder too.

  • @ChaserHUN hmm.. I'd say if you have it hooked up right and it still makes noise, try giving ISP a call. If it doesn't help, I say exchange it for another one.

  • @FastRedPonyCar

Actually the noise is only there if I disengage it. If it's turned on, it gets rid of all of the noise. No noise after I stop playing.

  • @ChaserHUN hmm... sounds like it could be a bad cable. try unplugging both jacks from the amp's fx loop to see if it's something going into the front of the amp or if it's something in the loop causing the drama.

  • Hey my ISP Decimator G-string finally arrived from the US

It works great, kills all the noise, and it's just great. But when if it's turned off theres much bigger buzz, like if the ground noise is collected. Is this normal? I actually never turn it off, just wondering.

  • @ChaserHUN never experienced this.. there may be a grounding issue somewhere that the ISP kills when it's activated?

  • @FastRedPonyCar

Yeah it kills it, it's totally silent, only if I disengage it the amp has a louder hum when it's actually not plugged in to the amp. I removed the battery from the pedal it's now not that loud. But actually the decimator kills it

  • @FastRedPonyCar

Maybe my AC/DC adaptor is not that good? I tried it with an EHX adaptor as well(wich can be a replacement for boss and ibanez adaptors too) and if it's diengaged has a bigger hum/buzz when the pedal is actually not in the chain. Are there some grounding issues that the pedal picks up or something is wrong with my pedal? But actually if I engage it, it kills all noise.

  • @ChaserHUN have you tried using a fresh 9v in it?

  • now THAT is a spare room

  • OK. I hooked it up exactly like your video and the channels work like they are supposed to. Only problem is that when the G-String is set to eliminate all hiss/hum when cranked on the HIGH Gain channel is does effect my delay from the delay pedal. Any suggestions??? Lou

  • I sent you a email a few min ago. I never had all the inputs/outputs on my G-string connected before. I didn't have it through the effects loop I guess. I have it connected as your showing, now all I have to do is figure out the effects loop. All I have is a MXR Black Label Chorus & a Ekko Analog Delay. I should have left the board alone but I put my new Lava cables on and took out my Boss DS-1 pedal. It was sucking TONE.

  • dunno if that's still amp noise or just camera hiss on that while you're talking, but I know that the FX loop needs to be put in the FX chain between the pre-amp and power amp in order to completely cut the hiss. I do this on my Laney VC50 and the difference is amazing. Literally NOTHING. I got two mates to come in went, hear that? Then hit a chord and they jumped out of their skins. Oh yeah if you have sustain issues put a nice compressor like the Aphex Punch Factory before the Decimator.

  • nice vid, you sold me.. one question, what do all those amps do for you? im gonna sell my vox valvetronix 100w head and get a tube hopefully.. maybe settle one a marshall mg solid state..

  • @grapeman56 what do they do? make cool sounds? hahah! nah I record at home and want quality tone and I gig out so I also need reliability. So far, the inexpensive chinese Jet city 100 has proven to be rock solid after over a year of gigging with it so low price doesn't always reflect poor quality.

Dont get the MG. you can get a good tube amp with better tone for less. The JCA20 watter is a KILLER deal.

  • Here's the problem I have, I'm running an old Japanese Boss HM-2 with EVERYTHING cranked on 10 and ProCo Rat Distortion pedal. I also sometimes run a Muff with an old tubescreamer all turned high at the same type running through a Marshall JMP. So it's massive distortion, now would this pedal be good for noise reduction with that insane amount of gain?

  • @TheForgottenFlesh I seriously doubt you would have any sustain left but the Gstring could certainly clamp down on the noise when you're not playing. With that amount of gain though, no noise reduction device will give you a gentle sustain roll off.

  • Do you still have a good sustain? My problem is that I have a beta aivin ng-100(very shit noise gate), it can't handle the gamps hiss because of high gain so I have to put it in front of my amps, but it's annoying that it cuts me off during solos when I want to hold a note longer :S

  • @ChaserHUN yeah as long as the knob on the amp stays below half, it sustains really well.

  • @FastRedPonyCar

You mean tha gain below half?

  • @ChaserHUN no the knob on the isp pedal. but you shouldn't have to take it past half way unless you're using obscene amounts of gain + boost or have a bad tube or something making more noise than should be making.

  • @FastRedPonyCar

I'm using a peavey valveking 212. The ng-1000 can't handle it in the fxloop. so I put it in front of the amp, I still have a little bit humming it's not really annoying, but it would be cool if there weren't be any. But the ng-100 kills the sustain thats my biggest problem

  • @SimanGtr75 It's "smarter" than the boss unit in that it utilize 2 different loops to silence both guitar/pickup/cable noise in one section and preamp noise from high gain/bad tubes, poor preamp design, etc in a 2nd loop.

  • Hi Drew, wow that 's a lot of equipment,,,,,xD - great tone and demo of the functionalities of the ISP pedal, thanks man :-) Cheers from Sweden. Jonas

  • 4:24 totally silent :):):):) SMILE SMILE HERE IT COMES

  • Hey friend, what amp are you playing here ?

The chug out of the silence put a smile on my face :)

  • @dondertochop splawn nitro.

  • there is a subtle white noise in the background fading in and out, or is that the camcorders mic?

  • OMG I LOOOOOOVVVEEE UR TONE!!!!!!!

  • another good review for the "attack responses"...and bad review for the s"ustain & decay testing". anyway, thanks, and your guitar it´s a precious gem.

  • its there a way to stop that pinging noise?

  • @young0wylde0child yeah lower the gain.

  • lol the poor man's way costs $235

  • After watching this video again I am def. getting one of the bad boys. How well do you like your Petrucci guitar? I saw a Red version and MF had it for 1795 I think.

I still want to order my Carvin 624M Custom too. Decisions, decisions.

  • @hawg427 I love it. very very well built and amazing playablitity and flexibility with the sound. It easily outplays both my carvins. It's not cheap but guitars that are built to and play at the JP6's level rarely are.

  • Decimator G-String or MXR Smart Gate?...and why? I can't decide.

  • @steveey251 g string. the g-string "listens" to two different signals: both the guitar's input signal and the preamp noise from the fx loop. it cuts the signal based on which one is producing noise. no other company does this (to my knowledge)

  • now quick question..lets say you wanted your feed back to get certain overtones. will it still grab those over tones with it on? or would you have to shut it off and bring all your noise back, cause i see artists like steve vai and joe satriani get all these harmonics/overtones from feedback(basically what im going for and what my sound is modeled after) but when there not playing its completely quiet. ive seen them live like ten times and they dont hit a pedal in between the feedback so idk..?

  • @young0wylde0child if the isp is set just right, it should let controlled feedback through. I've seen Vai and Satch a couple of times live and vai in particular, his mastery over the instrument and what it does is just godly.

  • question: i just got an old EHX black finger compressor fixed up and its got a mean hiss. would you recommed this pedal to cancel that out? (that hiss is also hightened by my Big Muff)

  • @dj0431 it will totally silence the sound coming from the speakers if you're not playing.

the suhr SSC single coil noise eliminator is the best thing that I know of on the market to specifically eliminate the 60 cycle hum from single coil pickups.

  • do you think just the regular decimator (not g string) would be roughly just as good for just a load of hiss for should I just save my money and get the thong pedal?

  • @snazygitrst hah depends on where the hiss is coming from to be honest. if it's coming from the preamp, the regular one won't work as well.

  • Hey there, im thinking of buying this pedal, but can i use it straight up in front of the amp? I own a little orange terror(more of an indoor old school rock dude, lol) without an FX loop. Sorry, not really a pedal dude, and the only pedals i really have are an OD and a tuner.

  • @15viceandvirtues you can. All you have to do is run a small patch cable in/out of the fx loop jacks on the pedal. The instruction manual has several different ways to use it.

  • @FastRedPonyCar Late reply, but thanks alot. This is surely on my Christmas gear list!

  • Thanks for the demo mate.

My NS-2 recently shit itself from years of abuse, so the ISP looks a good replacement

  • I have mine at about 40 with my 6505 with the gain at 7 (it doesn't go up really from there, so pretty much full) and it works great. I noticed with an overdrive your muted notes have a bit of feedback at the end of them but thats really not the fault of the ISP.

  • @Levi790 yep. that's just the amp with the gain maxed out (which it never is..) that was done basically to give a worst case scenario (which is still far better than the alternative)

  • @FastRedPonyCar Good review though man! I have an ISP Decimator that I bought used for 100$ (150 new) and I'm getting a second one for the effects loop used for $60!

If only that would fix the 6505's cleans >:(

  • @Levi790 try a clean boost pedal with the gain really low. It'll add some meat onto the clean channel and give it a little extra girth. pull the gain on the lead channel down to compensate for the hotter signal hitting the amp. Should work.

  • @FastRedPonyCar

Meh, I can't really see myself spending money on pedals and stuff to clean up the channel cause I use Lead 95% of the time or more anyway. It does the job awesome until I get a Mesa Rec, I`d say the 6505 can definitely hold its own against a rectifier but the cleans are poop.

  • @Levi790 recto cleans are poop too. I'm not a huge fan of their lead channels either. There are a lot of other amps I'd rather own besides a recto unless it was one of the older ones from the early 90's.

  • @FastRedPonyCar Really? When I tried a recto the cleans sounded pretty good...

I was thinking an ENGL maybe too when I get money.
