  • Not Mitchum's last great role, that would be Killer in the family.

  • Joe Rogan son!

  • Just finished reading this book. This was incredible. Can't wait to see this movie now.

  • Robert Mitchum's last great film role, he should've gotten at least an Oscar nomination, incredibly cool film

  • this supposed to be about the irish mob yeah??

  • @libertycaps666 If it's anything like the book, sort of but not really.

  • @libertycaps666 Not neccesarily, you have Italians & Irish, it's small time crooks, excellent movie

  • Just ordered the Criterion DVD, and watched this film. It kicked ass. A nice, classic gritty, '70s film. Nice Roadrunner in it too! Hope to read the book soon...

  • one of the great 70's crime flicks. my favourite Peter Yates movie.

  • This is nothing like the book

  • Have a nice day...

  • good trailer

  • And this is Don Lafontaine on the voiceover.

  • A truly great crime film.

  • One of Mitchum's best roles, but he's almost too charismatic to play Eddie Fingers.

  • God Mitchum is brilliant in this.

  • A realistic crime caper without all the phoney over the top explosions and other special effects we have today.

  • I saw this yesterday, cool movie. Grimy real life drama.

  • Count yer fuckin' knuckles !!

  • FANTASTIC movie, seen it many years ago on TV, taped it, love it !!!

Maybe Mitchum´s best 70ies-movie, definitly Peter Yates best and a fantastic - still unreleased - score by Dave CRUSIN !!

  • About damn time this movie is out on DVD! It's on my Netflix list for sure

  • Just got the DVD today, SICK flick! Must see if you live anywhere in the Boston area, and even if you don't, it's a great movie.

  • Super-scumbags trying to out-scumbag each other... Every spoken line leads to the next - no excess -- Jesus Christ, what a great movie...

  • I saw it at the Cleveland Circle Cinema. Yikes.

  • I saw it when it first came out. I grew up in Greater Boston, and was 16 when they made it. I'm a huge Mitchum fan, and this is one of his best.

...incidently, My First Car was a flawless 1971 Road Runner, B-5 Blue, Blck Bucket Interior, 383 Magnum (not the "Hemi" LOL)

I have the Criterion DVD On Order. Due May 18. Can't wait.

  • friends of eddie coyle the yakuza robert mitchum richard jordan long live cool

  • I got good news and bad news on the Eddie Coyle front..The only good news is that this fine film is finally making its way to DVD. Now the bad news,

Lincoln Center was supposed to have a special screening of this film in 2 weeks. Due to a reason that hasn't surfaced yet, the screening as of yesterday got cancelled. The other not so good thing is this fine trailer that we view, as far as its been reported on the Criterion website, is NOT going to be included on the DVD.

  • The movie will be released on DVD by the Criterion Collection on May 19, 2009...WOO HOO!!...FINALLY A DVD RELEASE

  • GREAT NEWS!!! THANXX

Paul Monash gave a lecture in Boston back in the late 80's about the movie.

I have the original one sheet signed.

  • Robert Mitchum long live coolfrom watching cape fear to the friends of eddie coyle

  • Near criminal that a professional first rate DVD release is not available. A lost Mitchum classic. Just watching this trailer reminded me of how this movie made me feel as I watched it years back...gritty; like I wanted to take a shower when it was over. Robert Mitchum RULES!

  • The Criterion Collection just announced they're releasing this on DVD.

  • I agree with pretty much everything said below. One of the great lost films. The Criterion news is good - my copy of this is so poor. Not that that stops me watching it. The novel's great too.

  • Criterion's November newsletter has just confirmed this for release in the near future.

  • About the heck time! Alex Rocco is the only one left alive!

  • fuckin yea eddie coyle what a legend!!!!

  • A stark gritty film that is so good, it is a shame it's not on DVD.

  • The film Quentin Tarentino wishes he could make.

  • @ivyblue1664 idiot

  • God this movie is good. Need to rewatch soon.

  • It's a grubby,violent,dangerous world.

  • I want this movie !

  • Phenomenal film! I watch it at least once a year, but my VHS tape's wearing thin now.

  • Cool-looking heist movie...I wonder if it's better than the similarly-themed "Charley Varrick"

  • For chrissakes! I loved the book. So how the hell can I see this movie??!

  • Great flick, chiefdanjugen i agree with you on why this movie was not put onto DVD I mean if they had commercials saying it is coming out on this date, they would sell so many copies, every 1 I know who has seen this loves it

  • Why this movie isn't on DVD is a mystery. Great crime drama. Mitchum, Richard Jordan and Peter Boyle are just fantastic.

  • It's a rights issue. Hopefully, it will be resolved in the near future.

  • Best fuckin movie ever!!! I live in the suburub of Boston where this was all filmed. The Bank that gets robbed at 1:18 is in South Weymouth. I used to deliver there all the time. When i finally got a chance to see this film, i was blown away to find out that they used the same bank! And it still looks the same. All locations are real, no sets! The bust at the Sharon train station was cool too. only 20 mins from where i live.

  • Steven Keats referring to his '71 Plymouth Roadrunner: "Its got the hemi the 383 hemi". LOL.

  • What I love is when some pretentious gas-bag jumps at a chance to be offensive and insulting. Verge, who is obviously an intellectual superior to all the posters here, has issued a decree. All pay heed. Unfortunately, he is also correct in that Higgins' books are incredible. Thank you, oh great Verge, for shining your great light upon our path. I bow in awe to the One who lords over us, the undeserving masses, and only visits these sites to instruct us in the One True Way. For God's sake.

  • One of my favorite movies. Great Boston and small time gangster flick.

I taped it when it was on AMC a few years back, but I wish they would release it on DVD.

  • Attention all above posting illiterates: consider the source. George V. Higgins was an incredibly talented and prolific novelist of the second 1/2 of the twentieth century in the U.S. Read a book sometime for God's sake.

    Itzik Basman

  • I live in Boston this movie is legend here mitchum what a great actor

  • Robert Mitchum is sexy now matter what his age. God how I love this video and Robert Mitchum.

  • One the finest American films ever made - deserves proper DVD treatment ASAP.

  • My husband knows how I feel about sexy Robert Mitchum and he isn't even jealous. He would love to hang out with this cool guy himself. Too bad we are stuck with the likes of Tom Cruise and other midgets.

  • I'm a huge fan of Robert Mitchum and I find it offesive of you to even mention Tom Cruise in the same breath as Mitchum. You're compairing a real man/actor with a little ego driven clown.

  • rigarick - You are right! Robert Mitchum could not be compared to anyone today. I miss him so much. Even though he was before my time, I think he is the hottest guy I have ever seen. I've never seen anyone as handome.

  • ladylike: When you have some time, pick up Mitchum's biography, most libraries have it in the bio section), his life story, from birth to his death, is amazing. A great read for all Mitchum fans.

  • Thanks for posting. Unbelievable that this film has not been released on DVD. Many RM fans think he gave one of his best performances in this film.

  • THIS IS EDDIE COYLE....

  • I love these kind of movies from the 70's and Mitchum at his best.

  • This was an AMAZING performance. He deserved an Oscar nomination. Has anyone seen "Home From the Hill," it's great too. My first exposure to Mitchum was as a kid and seeing "Cape Fear," I'll never forget it and it's still one of my favs.

  • As good an actor as DiNero is, Bob Mitchum is without doubt the "real deal" in life and on the screen.

  • You got that right, bro! DeNiro is a sellout anyway! Meet the Fockers? 15 Minutes? There was a time when he wouldn't have pissed on the scripts that he accepts now! Haven't paid to see any of his movies since a Bronx Tale and that was 15 yrs ago!

  • danel; So true! You'd think that with all the money he made in the early part of his career, he'd be very selective in the parts he plays now. Go figure!

  • This is up there with Night Of The Hunter (Children!!!)

as Mitchum's best performance....every time I see it, the quality just bears out; with "one take" directing, brilliant acting, a taut, true to life script, great cinematography, Boston setting... FOEC is a 70s neo-noir classic!

  • When is the DVD coming out? I've seen this movie many times and I cant get Mithcum being this gritty hood thats playing his angles. Loved it!!! What a performance!!!!

  • man, they gotta get this one out on dvd! even bare bones with a simple letterbox version will suffice! mitchum rulz!!!

  • My Dad Is In this Movie. He is in the scence when they are at North Quincy Train Station. Great Movie.

  • is that the scene where peter boyle gets commissioned to hit mitchum? i delivered to the bank in south weymouth where they blow that bank worker away. still looks the same after 30+ yrs.

  • Great film, great cast and it was shot on location in and around Boston which is rarely done anymore.

  • I agree!!

I have the original one sheet, it's cool

I read an interview that Mitchum was bragging about the high quality coke he was snorting during his partying nights while shooting the movie.

  • action/adventure movies of the late sixties early seventies were still made by people who could follow a plot line. also, the cinematography was still done as an artform. nothing like them, or at least few and far between now.

  • Fantastic film and one of Mitchum's very best performances. I wish this was out on DVD!

  • This is a great very underated movie Mitchum at his very best he nails the accent like no other. Good movies dont need alot of action, they just need great actors. Boston 1972
