There not the most sociable reptile, it depends on the chameleon but to deliberately upset one is cruel because it is stressing the chameleon. They do have teeth, there not the best fighters but male and females fight before they mate, but they puff there bodies out hiss and start to what looks like a "head butt". in captivity they are normally tame and friendly if treated well. very nice reptiles to have but not for a starter reptile, to start with i would advise a bearded dragon

This is a spitting (hissing?) image of my female veiled chameleon. Some are just mean. You can't "tame" them, like so many people are posting. I have 4 and I've treated them all the same. I can hold the other 3 with no problem but my veiled will try to bite me. Sometimes they get used to you when you handle them more, but not always.
