"Swami Prajnananda says "Savarotsava is Durga Puja. Swami Abhedananda remarks that Durga was orshipped by Savar, Barbar Pulinda caste. She was addicted to meat and wine, etc. The Chandipuza of autumn season was therefore called Savarotsava.............Durga and Chandi were the goddess of the Kirata caste. So Durga other name is Kiratini:. ~ Kamakhya temple By Kali Prasad Goswami
According to Coburn, it is striking that the word Candika has virtually no earlier history in Sanskrit. "There are no instances of its occurrence in the Vedic literature we have surveyed. The epics are similarly barren: neither the Ramayana nor the Mahabharata give evidence of the epithet, although in one of the hymns inserted in the latter Canda and Candī are applied to the deity they praised. ~ Coburn, Thomas B., Devi Mahatmya
"The Kirat (Sanskrit: किरात) mentioned in early Hindu texts are the tribals or Adivasi of the land.
Kirat Calendar Year is 5069, (2009)
Kiratas are believed to be of Tibeto-Burman origin. Ghatotkacha of Mahabharata fame (Son of Bhima) was a Kirata Chieftain.
From Ramayana:
In Yoga Vasistha 1.15.5 Rama speaks of kirAteneva vAgurA, a trap [laid] by Kiratas, so about BCE Xth Century, they were thought of as jungle trappers, the ones who dug pits to capture roving deer.
This is one of the practice I like about our Kirat Rai's culture. Just look at the dance. It can be danced by people of any dance and also many steps can be added to make it more interesting, which I have seen on other videos, so that we can attract people from other ethnic or other countries.
hey i remember seeing one of the girl dancing in NYC chandi.....damn man u guys keeping it live... showing our Rai culture like that makes me dance my self :D....
Dor Bahadur Bista wrote that the Kirat descendants include all Indo-Mongolian people speaking various Tibeto-Burmese dialects as their mother tongue, the principal of which are the Rai, Limbu, Yakkha, Sunuwar, Jirel, Hayu, Gurung, Magar, Thakali, Thami and Chepang in the hills, and the Tharu, Danuwar, Bote Majhi, Dhimal, Meche, Koche in the plains. He also cited that the earliest Newar of Kathmandu are also thought to belong to this group.(Fatalism and Development, 1991)
@TheFord323 As of April 15 2009, Nepali year is 2067. Right now the New Nepali Constitution is planning a draft to use Kirat's calendar (Kirat Yele Sambat). Kirat Yele Sambat commemorated the brave Kirat king Yalambar who ruled more than 5067 years ago in central Nepal. According to Kirat calendar (Kirat Yele Sambat) Nepal turned 5070 as of Friday 15th Jan 2010.

The Sanskrit dictionary, (Monier-Williams) explains Matamgi as names of the mythical mother of elephant tribe; a Candala
or Kirata woman; name of a form of Durga, and further as one of the ten mahavidyas and as the mother of Vasistha.
Matamga means elephant, Candala (man of the lowest rank) or Kirata(mountainer, babarian), and the name of the serpent demon.
