  • you notice that alot of bjj guys rebuttal all sound the same straight out of gracies handbook different people same answer children of the corn say bjj is different judo doesnt have ground blah blah then you show them the truth and theyll say aah but thats world war two judo its ineffective we have the rubber gaurd it like modern

  • @sonnych69 Judo is the true descendant of Jujutsu, a killing art. If during a throw you did not kill your opponent, then you would finish him off on the ground. So this nonsense that Judo's ground game was developed/changed by brazilian gayjitsus is dishonorable. Kano took the techniques from the 600+ dying Jujutsus schools, removed leg locks, neck breaking throws, and combined the many variations of each technique into the most eficient one. the russians version of JUDO IS MOst impressive

  • @franciscoreatas11 kano only studied 2/3 styles of jujitsu ,most were useless in combat because they never sparred full contact.Kano removed no leg locks, they were later removed in competition but are still practised in some schools and in kata.BJJ specialised in newaza and so became better than anyone else at it,if you specialise in any area youll be the best at it,makes sense.Im a judo black belt, bjj purple, collegiate wrestler in youth.Russian judo is heavily influenced by sambo.

  • @scarred10 hAVE YOU EVER HEARD that the gracies brought Russian Sambo practitioners to Brazil to teach them leg locks?

I had the pleasure of being thrown around by a russian Judoka/Sambo black belt and an American Sambo/Judo/Wrestling brown belt player for one month. At the begining they flicked me like a flee.Towards the end I actually threw the brown belt and his dominance was a lot less. All I could do to the black belt was sacrifice throws and pray that I could tap before being snapped.

  • @franciscoreatas11 thats entirely possible.Rolls was in america and trained with wrestler an sambo practitioner bob anderson in the 70s while there. He and several of the graciesand friends also competed in the pan am sambo champs after that along with practising some wrestling. However, ive seen helio and carlos do leglocks back in the 30s on old footage so maeda taught them that.Maeda had catch wrestled for years at this point also and there were leglocksin old judo.

  • @scarred10 As far as the leg locks being taught in the Old Judo, We learn them, but we are not allowed to try them out during practise..We do learn how to avoid them and the escapes for the leg locks..There are 5 throws that are not part of the 67 Judo throws that we learn, but we are not allowed to trying out at all. 2 of those throws break legs, 2 neck breaker, and 1 rib breaker. In fact many of the original throws were arm breakers....Thank you for your comment

  • The Gracies weren't trying to create a seperate art. Carlos has a direct line to Kano. Kano>Tomita>Maeda>Carlos Gracie. Carlos brother Helio couldn't do the "power" moves of jiu jitsu. So he concentrated on moves that used mostly leverage and fighting off his back. He became head instructor and greatly influenced the academy's style. His "tweaks" to accommodate his stature is what you see as BJJ today. But it is still Kano's line of jiu jitsu. Just a modified version. Look up Mitsuyo Maeda

  • BJJ is just what the Gracie's labeled Newaza. They actually simplified it quite a bit, which is better for profiting from students.

  • That is so awesome!

  • Is this advanced judo? I thought judo was just throws.

  • i belief judo basics start at ground work and fall breaking, then throws and sweeps.

afther that chokes, armlocks, wrist locks and sacrifes throws.

  • more groundwork than in BJJ, others are doing now what judoka were doing 20 years ago

  • @ibceastanglia certainly there isnt even close to the same amount of goundwork as in bjj,if there was it would BE bjj,not judo anymore.BJJ chose to specialise and develope judo newaza through experimenting in competitive matches and real fights.Theres a huge percentage of stuff done in bjj, never even considered in judo.BJJ in contast has poor throws that only wok on noobs and other styles.

  • @fpcolinayo

yeah, the old myth of Judo being a sport. it has throws, joint locks and chokes in standing, striking, kata, resuscitation, ground grappling (joint locks, pins and chokes).

  • @initdialog whats in the katas is irrelevant since they dont spar with strikes,if you dont spar it, its unuseable in general.

  • @fpcolinayo you dont know much then.Modern judo in comps is nealy all standing due to idiculous reffing but a good deal of what you see in bjj has always been in judo before anyone ever heard of bjj

  • Die in a hole. Learn to spell and type. Nobody loves you.

  • Great montage of a very great art thankyou!
