Bates conducted the world's first -- and tragically LAST true effort at prevention. He restricted his work (1913) to eyes that were about -1 diopters. He achieved Snellen improvement to pass the (current) DMV test of reading 3/4 inch letters at 20 feet. A future study (with motivated Engineer/SCIENTISTS in that range, could succeed.
I actually have researched the Bates method. It's been around since 1940. Eye strain is a factor in not seeing well, but if you delve deeper into the anecdotal evidence people use to support Bates, and understand optics, you'll conclude that better results are achieved by altering lens curvature with glasses, contact lenses or surgery.
No, you would only conclude FASTER results are achieved using surgery. The Bates method, especially when combined with a competent instructor, can yield just the same if not better results than cutting out a flap in the eye and pointing a laser at it... The only downfall to the Bates method is it takes time since many of the strain in our eyes builds up from many years thus it may take a few months to several years to achieve 20/20 vision, but it is possible.
I have only done the method for a few months and I am already able to drive without glasses and get along with all of my other daily activities without a crutch (glasses). One reason I want to enter the medical field is to allow people to know they do have options when it comes to their vision, there is no one solution fits all and Bates is definitely one of those solutions.
Actually, this video is scientifically accurate. The Bates method has never been proven to work. Its anecdotal success is due to the fact that Bates urged people to stop wearing glasses while employing his techniques, forcing the eyes muscles into trying to compensate for misshaped lenses. LASIK changes the shape of the eyes lens and has millions of satisfied patients. Unfortunately, Bates also urged people to stare at the sun, not a method that promotes good eye health.
And I have done the Bates method and it worked beautifully for me. So before your criticize it (reading your comment I can see you don't understand it) you should do a bit of research.
The Bates method has been proven to work, you just don't know where to look :) it is also backed by many Optometrists and Opthamologists so it does have a voice in the medical community. It is sad so many people underestimate the powerful of self healing.
When sunning you don't look at the sun, you close your eyes stupid, and checkpix the bates method has been around since the 1920's not the 1940's and glasses and contact lenses cause more eyestrain, and are very inconvienient, so why would I want to go back to using them if I could achieve perfect vision using Bate's Method?

Our 6 year old daughter wore very thick glasses until we gave her two different herbs for 3 months.
She is 22 and has no need for glasses today.
As parents we did not realize we caused the damage with child cold medications.
Neither her mother or I wear glasses.
Young children eyes can be healed.
It takes just a little knowledge.
