Spaking of lost teams, the 1973 Alabama Crimson Tide team was probably (IMHO) the best football team to not go undefeated. Had we beat ND in the Sugar Bowl that year, that team would have gone up with teams like the 1995 Nebreska Cornhuskers, the 2001 Miami Hurricanes, and 2004 USC Trojans as one of the best teams in college football historty. Of course they didn't because they lost to ND...who needed the luck of the Irish to beat Bear everytime they played Alabama. In 1986 their luck ran out.
Mbearsu...Notre Dame and Alabama played in 1987 and ND killed the Tide in South Bend...complete blowout. The Irish have a 4-1 record in the series. 1986 was Holtz's first year.
Shhh you wasn;t supose to correct me. LOL I forgot they played after that. You are correct on that sir! I would love to see us play them again! I want the score to be settled! ROLL TIDE ROLL!!
Alabama and Notre Dame played in 1986 and Alabama won. That was the last time we played. We knocked the quarterback completely out. (Hint Video Above) Then Notre Dame renigged on a 10 year contract to play Alabama. Thats RIGHT they are SCARED to play us now. So the score could be settled IF they had the balls to play us again. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!
Mmmm, actually Notre Dame beat Alabama in South Bend the very next year. That said, I don't think the Irish have wanted a game against the Tide in the recent past, and certainly don't want one in the near future. Roll Tide!
it broke his jaw and knocked him out with a concussion. the day after they refused to contract and play bama anymore and outed from the 10 yr contract...cream puff fuckers
Sooooo, what your saying is....Universities should only offer classes like Quantum Physics? Sad to see you so unintelligent you don't realize that many different people must do many different things to make the world go 'round. Lemme guess, you never made it out of Jr. High, huh? And you right, Rockne was a coach....that was almost as good as the Bear.
really that's funny because if you really knew so much about your beloved Tide then you would know that Frank Thomas who coached Alabama from 1931 until 1946 was the starting QB on the same team as George Gipp under Rockne from 1920-1922 and learned a great deal from Rockne same can be said about Bryant who played and then assisted Thomas at Alabama.
@Batosai420 you finally got one took ya long enough, but wait I didn't see his father at the ceremony to congratulate him? Will the 1st Heisman winner also be part of the other great Alabama football tradition of not graduating? wait and see on that one
Secondly the point about the schedule is compared to ND's and MSU's schedules from 66' well there is non, the 10-10 tie was basically the NC game that year, the following week ND went to USC and smashed the Trojans 51-0
His father wasn't at the ceremony?!?!?!?? YOU MEAN HE HAD TO GIVE THE HEISMAN TROPHY TO ANOTHER PLAYER BECAUSE OF THAT???? Surely you brought it up for a good reason!
So, you're saying that in the 1973 Sugar Bowl, when Alabama came in undefeated and ranked #1, and lost to Notre Dame and thus lost the National title to the Fighting Irish, that was a down year for Alabama?
Trust me, I HATE that we claim that NC. However, they gave the title out before the bowls back then, so officially, although not with the NCAA, the '73 NC is ours. You know what's a real travesty though? 1966. Talk about pure robbery.
Actually it was a split NC seeing as the Coaches Poll had given theirs out before the Bowls, they gave it to Bama, but thank god for the AP poll, which after 66, started giving theirs out after bowl games and gave theirs to ND it was a split albeit a shitty one.
First off 1973 Alabama won the coaches before the bowls and Notre Dame beat the Tide and won the AP title, second 1966 Alabama played a patsy schedule, Notre Dame and Michigan State were the superior teams that season, third don't forget the Bear is 0-4 against the Irish, and lastly to close how many Heisman winners does the Tide have zero these facts are undisputed!
@whpw you played exactly two games outside the state of Alabama during that regular season Ole Miss and Tennessee
all 8 of the other games were inside Alabama in either Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and one game in Mobile, as well if it was so tough how do you make that argument and I will remind you this was 1966 not 1996 or 2006
Louisiana Tech Home
Vanderbilt Home
Southern Mississippi Home
Miss. State Home
South Carolina Home
I will give you the LSU and Auburn games so that was 4 out of 10
I'm glad we claim it. We had the best team in college football that year. We just happened to lose when it counted most by one point. If those teams played 10 times, Alabama would have won 9. We were that good. If the 2007 New England Patriots played the 2007 New York Giants 10 times, the Pats would win 9 of them too. They just happened to lose when it counted the most. It happens a lot.
Don't forget Notre Dame miraculously leaped from No. 5 to No. 1 to win the 1977 title by winning the Cotton Bowl while No. 3 Alabama barely moved after beating Ohio State by four TDs. Alabama had lost by a TD at Nebraska, and ND lost to Ole Miss, which Alabama destroyed. How about that one?? Glad FSU stole yours in 1993. Makes up for that a little bit. That's as close as the Irish have come or will come for decades.
even in the watercolor-quality picture of the video it still makes me nauseous.

80 Birmingham 7-0

patsy schedule? Alabama beat more top twenty teams in 1966 than Notre Dame or Michigan State. It was hardly a patsy schedule.

Good reasoning. However, I'd still trade '73 for '66 if we could. I guess it's 'cause we don't have the Missing Ring.
