  • . . . the whitest, frothiest blossomist blossom there ever could be. . .

    Has shades of James Joyce.

Was Mr Potter influenced by Joyce? I've been trying to search online for the literary influences of Potter, but can't find much. Who were his great masters? What writers helped shape him? I need to delve into his work more to find out, but am fascinated to know other people's greater knowledge and opinions on this.

  • And yes Vince, you also look a little like the great man himself. You really do look like him.

Watching his plays in the 80's, I never knew we had such a great writer about which we could be so proud to be English. He's so sad and funny. He should have won the Nobel Prize, now that would have been a laugh.

  • You can find the original interview in my channel. Great words and I think we would all do well to take some notice, appreciate the now and take the time to appreciate and really connect with those who we care about...even more so connect with ourselves.

  • Thank you Vince. I see that you knew Dennis very well and that you loved him. He meant a lot to me as did his work and words. I wish he was still with us.

  • I saw that interview and was touched by his talking about the blossom on the trees.

And in Cold Lazarus by him, made just after his death, there is a scene of the preserved head's dreams where he's sitting at his desk, the windows open and blossom blows in from the trees.

  • This was wonderful, and just as moving as when Dennis said the words himself.

I remember seeing the interview, and that very part you recited was what stood out the most to me. So much that I named a song Blossomest Blossom in his honor.

  • That was amazing.

  • Dennis Potter was (is?) a controversial playwright in the UK. On a personal level, even I found his "The Singing Detective" difficult to watch. But, if you find the orginal interview (it may even be on YouTube; I haven't looked), I've not reflected one micron of the tension. Even so, I enjoyed sharing it with you guys and thank you for your part in inspiring me to dust the cobwebs from it once again.

  • They may have not been your words originally Vincent but you have made them yours now. As a youth I believed I know what was best for the people and I thought force was the method to implement it. Life showed me the limits of that method. Now, I still believe I know what's best for the people but love has shown me that it is the method and it shows me the way to implement it. Thank you, Vincent.

  • It is a favourite passage I like to share with my friends every so often. I'm glad I had the chance to share it with you.
