  • I love Keith's drumming in this one.

  • brilliant great upload a band i played bass in called The Triifks did Who covers and this was one of them ( the backing vocals were fun... cough cough (-:

  • SAW THIS WHEN I WUZZA LIL KID...GOOSEBUMP CITY.

  • I listen to this song when I feel sad and it makes me feel better.

  • You can't switch off my loving for this song like you can't switch off the sun!

  • @blutocampbell I know he was young...Im just saying he has a baby face

  • PETER LOOKS Like HE HAS A TURKEYS ARSE STUCK TO HIS FACE,is it true that he went with dirty men,and also downloaded KID STUFF/

  • Darn Strats never stay in tune...

  • The 2003 version appears to be more romantic and sad

  • lmao 1:38-1:45

  • The Jams version is much better.

  • @Blibbyblu how can a cover be better than an original? i mean thats stupid. like saying to someone they can do a better impression of mr t than mr t can do?

  • @theslipknotfan111 All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix. See ya later.

  • keith looks like hes 13 years old!!!!

  • @Tomboy91xoxo He may look like it,but he was actually 20 when this version was recorded

  • Not happy with Moony riding that cymbal to death. Makes a right mess of it.

  • The Who Maximum R&B Live!!! Buy it!!

  • All in top form, but Keith NAILING the swinging feel. I think I see him hitting the underside of the hi-hat and back down on the snare, back and forth in double time. He really was all that. Glad we saw them in Memphis, first tour.

  • A pure, exhilarating, blast of uninhibited Who amazingness right across the face right here with all 4 bringing their A+++ game.

  • I love the moment 2:50, when Keith looks at the camera while finishing the song.

  • 2:14 MY GOD KEITH HITTING THE HI HAT !!!

  • Screw the overrated Beatles, I love The Who!

  • @leoYANG96 I understand the passion, but let's not go daft. I LOVE the Who, and if I'm going to go all medieval on some overrated band, it won't be my other favs, the Beatles. It'll be the Rolling Stones that were relevant for maybe 12 of the 48 years they've been around. Give it up, lads.

  • @leoYANG96 I understand the passion, but let's not go daft. I LOVE the Who also, and if I'm going to go all medieval on some overrated band, it won't be my other favs, the Beatles. It'll be the 'world's greatest rock 'n roll band' (sic) the Rolling Stones. They were relevant for maybe 12 of the 48 years they've been around. It'll never be true; give it up, lads.

  • @thoof2001 I'll agree that... I'd rather the Beatles MUCH more than the Rolling Stones.

  • i think this song's sheer brilliance by the best band inspired the police's every breath you take.

  • Thanks for sharing. I was so pissed when I read of the BBC losing a live version of this song from one of the bands' performances on BBC radio back in '67.

  • LOL all the mods dancing

  • great song !!!

  • imagine how great these guys must have been in a pub!! awesome and i saw them in 68 and im still stunned.

  • much better than weller not a patch on the who the real real mod father townsend

  • Awesome. Moon rocks!

  • What a fucking drummer. How did he do it? It always looked like he was playing randomly yet the sound that he made was always spot on.

  • @inshreds66 in fact...he was an octopuss

  • yes so much fun to play!!!

    the who show

  • Keith Moon = Legend

  • Long live Keith Moon!

  • One of my favorite Who songs of all time. Ilove the way Townshend plucks between the drumbeats (well, on the studio version).

  • F*** brilliant!

  • DAMN THIS IS GOOD!!!

  • I'm in love with this song!

    And with The Who!!!!!!

  • More like the beach music Keith loved so much.

  • Testament as to why they are the Greatest Rock n' Roll band ever.

  • great tune.....have you heard "the jams" version its on the "b"side of down in the tube station at midnight check it out fellow whosters.

  • Rare view of a classic deep cut. Even with the flat vocals this is still a great performance - pure WHO. Moon is a delight!!!

  • Greeeaaat memories from the Marquee Club , then located in Wardour Street ......The Who in their best number ever !!!!!!

  • Moon and the camera

  • this is rock and roll in its rawest and purest form, its THE FUCKING WHO!!!!! all i can say is fuck yeah!!!!!

  • the who is brilliant. they are as raw and original as one can get. pete townshend is the mastermind behind the lyrics and music.

  • @fasima it is rather out of tune. do you think any other clips of this song from that year exist?

  • keith moon el mejor baterista de todos los tiempos

  • Check out the bass at 1,25.

    Slab bodied P-Bass

  • Is this at the Marquee Club where now a Keith Moon plaquet is? if yes, I was there 3 weeks ago^^

  • I believe the Marquee Club has changed locations at least once since those days.

  • @MsMoonTheLoon yeah thats the sight where this performance took place, on wardour street.

  • Keith moon was the greatest drummer of all time Phil collins comes close though!!! But the Who as a band are f###ing great!! just love them.

  • To me they're the THIRD best band in the 1960's!!!! Awesome

  • so that makes them the best in 70's right? :D

  • obviously beatles were #1 but if there were never any beatles the brit invasion that saved rock n roll woudda been headed by the who. recently saw sir paul and he was fantastic. also recently saw the who. nobody can rock like daltrey & townsend. imagine if keith moon stayed with em?

  • The greatest band. Love them.

    Wonderful song too.

  • chingon

     great

  • My fave Who song.

  • Look at keith's left hand at 1:40. Brilliant, as good as any top jazz drummer including buddy rich.

  • I don't know much about jazz drumming, but I would have to agree that Keith is pretty amazing.

  • Never heard this who song before

  • My favorite of the older Who songs. I'm surprised it was never a hit.

  • You'd be flat too playing full bore with no monitors!

  • So flat!

  • They had no way of hearin themselves sing - which is why Roger and John always fought over stage volume for John's bass amps. Pete said in an interview that it kept them from being close friends.

  • the beat love song ever

  • excactly! its loud live and shit but great!

  • im a fan of Keiths but he is not the best drummer in the world

    most creative yeah...

    not worlds best though

  • exciting to watch

  • mooon is the most feel inspired technical drummer ever and a true genius

  • Pure brilliance. Still stunning after more than 40 years.

  • @retronostalgic - Fab Track and video!

  • @tunefreek27 - Has barely aged a bit..

  • John's mic sounds quite loud and you can't hear him almost as a lead singer...

  • I agree hivesboy. I'd say 'best' would have to be Mr Rich. My 'favourite' is Keith though :)

  • Keith moon is the best drummer of all time and The Who are first and ultimate rock band. They inspired Jimi Hendrix, Jam, Rush, Oasis, Pearl Jam and so many other bands that eventually became huge. Bigger than the Who yes, but better? No way, The Who are THE BEST.

  • It's the truth ^^

  • You forgot Kiss, Alice Cooper, Bowie, Elton John, Ramones, Tubes, Clash, The Police and hundreds more. Paul Mc said The Who is the greatest live band. Stones would not release Rock N Roll Circus because The Who blew the Stones off the stage. Robert Plant said while opening for The Who, "we have the real professionals in the house tonight", and thanked Pete and Rog for having Plant open for them. Other nights Plant said,"we have the true professionals here tonight". I could on and on.

  • Yeah Keith is tha man

  • Great song off of A Quick One.

  • love this song...and The Who(:

  • long live keith moon! adorable.

  • on this preformance dosnt roger walk off stage?

  • no...

  • thank you.......

  • No, that was the NME Glad Rag Ball in '65, shortly before Roger got kicked out of the band for about four weeks.

  • keith moon kicks ass lolo lol!

  • This was in '65? I thought "So Sad About Us" wasn't written until '66.

  • probably wasnt released till then

  • i love moon i modeled my drum style after him sum what but it seems in the eraly days the who would have been in more need of a bonham like drummer i wonder what the guy pete townsend fired sounded like he was to old for them late twentys , funny now there all old or dead

  • What do you mean, in more need of a Bonham-like drummer? Where do you think Bonham learned to drum like he did? From Moon, of course...

  • i agree keith is the best!

  • Keith Moon is the greatest drummer in the world....today. RIP Keith & John.

  • There's something so powerful about this performance.

  • its keith!

  • This is such a timeless teenage song isn't it?

  • God, this song is fun. They're so happy singing and banging away. Even if Roger's a little off, it's wonderful.

  • yeah. I love how every time roger go's a little of key, john starts singing in a harmony that fits the rest of the song and then even tho rogers off, johns harmony also fits the notes rogers singing. john entwistle was so brilliant!!

  • I remember reading how Pete dissed Roger. I guess that made him better, though. Heck, the rest of the band was incredible, to say the least.

  • Excellent observation, that's the reason it sounds so great.

  • fkn brilliant post

  • That was amazing

  • what are the chourds for this song?

  • I really like this song. :)

  • You hear alot from John on this.

  • one of their best!

  • In the sixties they were one of the best groups in the world and the Marquee was one of the best places to see them or any group. Even at the back you were only 30 or 40 feet away. Great days and this film brings back such great memories.

  • Look at moon's toms shaking.

  • the who are my fav band i'm going to go see them in october

  • what a song, the jam did there best 2 cover this song

  • great john's fender precision sound !

  • Keith's drumming playing is awesome

  • they were so f-in loud. I love it. Knock people over.

  • john and roger sound great together

  • Lovely!

  • best drumming of all time

  • Love this song! Long live rock, long live The Who!

  • FKN genius. period. Im almost crying listening to this. Ive watched 3 of these posts (So Sad About Us) and this one is the best so far. .....yes Im almost crying....hehe! THANK YOU 4 thsi video. Means a lot. x ;)

    RIP MOONIE & ENTWISTLE...xo

  • r.i.p entwistle and moon.

  • Listen to that bass ! Not that you have a choice.

  • John Entwistle was a one off. Keith Moon was in his prime ! Jesu-ss ! What a band !!!

  • Daltrey is flat all over the place on this... but I still love the song (I think he goes a little flat in the original recording even)

  • Lalalalálalala.... So Saaaaaaaaaad about us!

  • Bonzo drunk a hell of a lot of vodka. That's what killed him. Drugs or alcohol. You're still dead. Moon in fine form here. Don't think either of these two talented gents would have made it to 60. Both got EXTREMELY obnoxious when they'd had a few too many.

    I love THE WHO!

  • keith didnt die from drugs.....well, he died from a drug he was taking to help him quit drinking so i guess he did die from drugs but perscribed drugs and he just made a mistake, he took em' in a handful cause thats how he was used to taking pills. John DID die from cocaine tho,

  • This was the first song i ever learned on guitar

  • if my comment above does not make sense it's because i had typed reply previously about john bonham of led zep and had inadvertently re-typed!,oops!.

in 60s i beleve quite a few bands played and covered early R&B just like beatles, stones etc, before getting confidence and writing own stuff!.

  • bonzo not a drug man!,he would drink yes!,preferred being at home with family in worcestershire to the big stadium tours.

i think most of 60s first albums would contain hell of a lot of covers like beatles & stones covered lot of R&B in early days?.

  • Didn't "Bonzo" Drink himself to death???

  • Sorta. He barbiturated on 40 shots of vodka or something of the like.

  • That was John BONHAM not ENTWISTLE!

  • Obviously, I'm not sure what you're talking about. Entwhistle had a cocaine-induced heart attack.

  • Right I know that, someone though he died from drinking - and they were obviously mixing up Bonham and Entwistle bc they were both John.

  • Oh, okay. Entwhistle really outshines Daltrey in singing in this video, at least I think so.

  • I always like hearing John sing - he's not bad, not bad at all! I love My Wife because he sings it!

  • Keith's not that bad either =)

  • So do I, Entwistle's singing is so moving.

  • @JimmySmers agreed. anything entwistle sang had such emotion and volume, even his solo stuff.

  • What I meant by "sorta" was that stress was also a factor.

  • yeah uhh... THIS ISEN'T A COVER!! Pete wrote this song

  • ok. i was wrong everyone. they DID write this. i did research and i was wrong

  • there first album only had like 3 songs that they wrote hahaha

  • wrong again. they wrote 9 out of the original 12 songs on the UK release of my generation. you should not be allowed to use that username.

  • Keith Moon is the best drummer ever and is my role model. No one even gets close to him!

  • andoltoldo i agree. if only he wasnt so addicted to drugs, he may still be with us, still sharing his pure magic on drums

  • dude, keith didnt die from drugs. dumb ass

  • Strictly speaking, he did - he took too much of a drug that was supposed to be getting him off alcohol. A bit ironic, but he'd have O.D.ed on something, sooner or later. A sad loss - I'm just glad to have seen him perform at his best.

  • yeah he did

  • not traditional recreational drugs, but drugs nonetheless

  • lee:your both crackers

  • great song!,the ox playing some mean bass lines!.

didn't the merseys cover this as a 'b' side?.

  • DÄNG! WRONG.

    Pete wrote this.

Why dont you, "petetownshend248" (who shouldn't even be allowed to use that name) just get the hell out of here and shut up.

  • what about john´s basslines? they are superb on this song, he was the best bassist ever...

    long live the who!

  • If the Beach Boys called and asked Keith to join them the same year this footage was taken, he would have quit The Who. Glad they didn't call him

  • Can anyone here tell me why Keith Moon is so good? Please? How is such a super human drummer? RIP, what a fucking legend, in every way, WHAT A GUY!

  • but you can't switch off my love like you can't switch off the sun

  • one of the Who's hidden gems

  • wow... i would make sure you know what you're talking about before you say something stupid

  • I wonder if the Disney Channel (if it had existed 40 years ago) would have the balls to let these twenty year old rockers perform.....I kinda doubt it....talent seems to be in short supply these days!

  • so true

  • The Ox, slab precision, great trebly tone.

  • Easily Pete Townshend's most underrated Who pop song. Should've been a HUGE hit!

  • Agreed... it might even be my favourite Who song. I suppose we've all heard the Jam cover, but I'd like to hear Aussie band You Am I have a crack at it.
