In 1974, a teacher at school told us that there was going to be a sequel to the original BUT here was the plot: The survivors were going home on some sort of underground trans-Atlantic train --and the train was to crash; making for another "adventure". Was there any truth to this or was it a legend/rumor. Either way, it's pretty amusing! I was in 6th grade in 1973/1974' so the "disaster movies" and the "Planet of the Apes" movies were MY LIFE !
@konga5 That was the original premise, yes. The survivors of the first film were going to Geneva (or somewhere) on a train and it was in a tunnel that collapsed and trapped them in the train. I think that it was a group of mercanaries from the ships company that didn't want them to testify against them that caused the collapse.
When I was a kid in 1978,and some boys at my school knocked a bee hive out of a tree and the bees just went crazy and kids went running with hands waving as the bees went after them and good job too and then 'the swarm' came out that same year which back then was quite a thrilling and spooky movie really.
I saw this movie on either TNT or AMC a few years ago...omg it was awful, especially when villainous Telly Savalas announces that he's looking for plutonium. And that early scene where everyone is making the jump across the Pit of Death...and Karl Malden's Intense Look of Pain to showcase that he is dying...oh Irwin: this, The Swarm and When Time Ran Out...what happened?!
Huge discrepancy for this movie compared to the original "Poseidon Adventure." This trailer says the ship capsized in a violent storm. Actually, it capsized in calm seas due to a rogue wave.
yep, i don't know how its possible for Irwin Allen to make a huge mistake like that since he made both movies. Plus, in the first movie, all the decks flooded one by one as the characters climbed to the top and in this one they seem to have resurfaced so, theoretically, this movie isn't even possible.
Another discrepancy is that they say in the first film the bow section was flooded, and this is me talking as someone who knows shipwrecks, the rouge wave or the weight from the shifting cargo would've caused the covers on the ship's cargo holds to come off once she rolled over, meanin all that plutonium (depending on what deck we''re talking about) would be underwater or on the bottom of the Meditteranian. Also this movie isn't even possible because it's hinted the ship sank
No Warner Bros. did this one as well as Allens other films including The Swarm, When Time Ran Out, Fire! and Flood!. He switched because it would allow him more freedoms including directing his films.
shirley knight was is juggernaut (1976). slim pickens in the swarm (1978) karl malden in meteor (1979) michael caine is the swarm (1978). this movie is full of disaster movie veterans.
Funny history to this. At the end of Paul Gallico's novel, the Poseidon sinks even as the survivors are rescued. Allen contracted Gallico to write a novel on which to base a sequel, so Gallico wrote the book as a direct follow-up to the movie--not his own book--with the survivors forcing the helicopter to return to the ship minutes after their rescue.
...Which was tossed from the final script anyway. Oh well. Anyway, the tiger was a surprise...
i've heard near the end of the novel version of "Beyond the Poseidon Adventure", the ship was destroyed by an underwater volcano. However that too doesn't appear in the final film, but the Poseidon does explode near the end of the film.
a billion dollar treasure?
ahaha, this looks so bad compared to the original.

Better question is why couldn't we see that movie, I believe the idea of survivors trapped in a collapsed tunnel was used in the movie Daylight

Yes he was. You'd think he would have known after starring in The Swarm. Chamberlain was also in Irwin Allens The Towering Inferno.
