I really love this piece because of an emotional connection I have with it- I was listening to it while being in the subway, a little loud apparantly. My neighbor in the subway then suddenly asked me what I was listening to, because it sounded fascinating but outlandish to him. So then the rest of the ride I introduced him to Steve's ouevre and to contenporary art music in general. We're still friends- it may sound like a cliche but- music connects!
Moving, sad, but ultimately life affirming. I love Reich, his music is so uplifting, positive, beautiful! Thank you for uploading this, I have been looking everywhere for this piece;)))))))))
There is something very special, very moving, very direct about this piece of music. In slitting Daniel Pearl's throat, his terrorist captors heartlessly denied him his voice and life. Yet this piece defiantly and repeatedly affirms his identity--his intuition of himself, his place in the world--using his own last (or last recorded) words. Even more, it dares to do so sonorously and joyously, as if striving to negate the negation of Daniel life's. He is: Daniel Pearl.
This reminds me of the contemporary human, in an age that values the individual more than any period before it. Everyone has their own story and voice.
This is phenomenal....his idea of repeating phrases again and again is such an incredible idea because every time you hear it.....your perceptions change what you see of it there for it changes for you....but remains without a movement in fact...a bit like life in the long run...I dunno Great musician an asset to the industry!
Good I am glad that's quite a unique opinion a lot of people tend to like whatever is so bad that has a charecter and I guess because this seems like a bad genre of music because it repeats they like it for the wrong reasons..... so your kind of like an serious honest version of them :) I just like it because too me its like the main idea is let your perception of loop change and start noticing different things :) like meditation bowls lol

@Mrwilwak Yes, the tragedy would have much less had he been homely looking.

And just think- if Daniel Pearl hadn't been murdered, we wouldn't have this awesome song. It's the circle of life.

I'll try to, my friend, but the Utube has a time limit and I hate to cut songs, I found this really irritating....
