Modern Rap vs Old Rap

Ummmm, I'm not sure if I consider Easy E's rapping as something to reminisce on. When it comes to "gangsta" rap and the lyrics thereof, that to me was the beginning of the downfall of Hip Hop. The whole promoting gang violence (and quite frankly, Black on Black crime,etc) and calling women B's and Hoes was the beginning of rap being about having hoes,money, and having a glock ready to shoot somebody. All of that was part of Hip Hop history,but doesn't mean it was a good part to hold on to,IMO.

Technology happened. Much like cell phones have evolved with email, twitter, etc and other avenues so you don't have to socialize and see what is out in the world thus, the advent of "reality TV." People are so isolated that other people's reality is more interesting than their own. Same with hip-hop. New school has nothing to say and all they need to do is come up with the next greatest ringtone and they'll get paid. No original thought needed. Just a good track and let technology happen.

Technology has allowed most anyone to put beats down, throw some lyrics and get it distributed and make money through Twitter, YouTube, etc. People don't work at their craft as hard as they used to because they essentially don't have to. Come up with a hook & simple lyrics. We're not as socially aware as we used to be and mainstream music, especially hip-hop reflects it.

The number one reason why hip hop has changed so much is because of the club scence. People don't listen to what they like, people listen to the newest and hottest shit, which they assume is what's played in the clubs, and they clubs don't chose the music because of the lirycs, they choose it because of the beat.
