The Shadows goes Dire Straits in inspiration. I like the tune, although I was never fond of Dire Straits. Great Playing, and what a great sound on the Snaredrum !!!
Great Guitar work from master Hank Marvin, and great Interpretaion from the whole band.
I've been a shadows fan for 50 years ,how did I miss this one , its awsome , sounds like it's Bruce on vocals . Anyway I have just order the CD today. Many thanks for bringing this number to my attention. PS. Don't you think it sounds a bit like Chris Rea.
The is one of the best songs I've ever heard! It is so not like The Shadows but brilliantly done, they should release it as a single. Has anyone else recorded it?
Thanks for the kind comments about my song. The only difference in the lyrics from my original demo version is in the second line, where I wrote 'Cross my heart and hope to die'. The Shads sang 'I wouldn't tell you any lies'. Kev
@zanaus1 AFAIK this is the original, it was written by Kevin Fitzpatrick but I can't find any information on what else he wrote or who else might have recorded it. Good song, lyrics are a bit weak though. It is an injustice that this album only sold c. 50000 copies, and meant that Polydor would never sanction an album of original material again, kind of secured the Shadows' image in the public eye as a MOR daytime tv covers outfit :{
@BORROVAN26 … I think this song shows a bit of acknowledgement to Dire Straits (who as we know were hugely influenced by the shadows), and I reckon if Dire Straits had released it, it would have been a huge hit, but as it was the Shadows, people wrote it off.
A wonderful song. A great bass line on this...but - Mark Knopfler often said the Shadows influenced him - here the influence is working in reverse :-)
Guardian Angel was their best album of the '80s and got just one week at number 98 I think, Whereas their compilations and albums of covers inexplicably got to the top ten. There's no justice!
I agree Guardian Angel is a much underrated album some excellent instrumentals and good vocals, this being one of them.Glad to see I am in a minority of two as opposed to a minority of 1.
beautiful:))

Great song
The pictures are very pretty, but they really don't have anything to do with the song.
The song is about a stalker, listen to the lyrics

This song is from the album Diamonds from 1984. One of their very great vocal recordings. As always Hank is performing wonderfully.

Hey listen, I know you've been warned not to talk to any strangers
I wouldn't tell you any lies, you're not in any kind of danger
You're new around here, you don't know all the roads
This town could be a graveyard, a graveyard for your hopes
When I saw you walking home last night / I picked you out to keep in my sight
I'm gonna be your guardian angel
Don't you read the papers, the streets aren't safe anymore
You see too many people, they're livin' outside the law

(cont) They say it's just another sign of these times / A dirty world breeding dirtier crime / I wanna be your guardian angel
Tell me something sister, are you afraid of the dark? I always was when I was a kid
Shadows full of dynamite just waiting for a spark, I thought i'd never get used to the secrets they hid
Now I feel at home in this twilight world, waching stories unfold in a dream
This is no place for a single girl, your voice could be just another scream
BORROVAN26 1 year ago
(cont) No, don't run away, there's no cause for alarm
As long as i'm around here you won't come to any arm
I'll follow you right up to your door
No need for you to worry anymore
I'm gonna be your guardian angel (angel)
Your guardian angel (angel) x 2

"??? are you afraid of the dark
I always was when I was a kid"
It´s been bugging me for years and I´d be grateful if anyone could help. :)
